Apple Watch SE 1st Gen Screen Replacement

Apple Watch SE 1st Gen Screen Replacement

Repair Description

Cracked, chipped or unresponsive display? The SE 1st Gen uses Ion-X strengthened glass bonded to the touch digitiser and OLED panel as one sealed unit - which is why a hairline crack so often turns into dead touch spots, phantom taps or moisture creeping in weeks later.

We heat-release the old assembly, clean the frame, transfer your sensors, fit a colour-accurate replacement and reseal with fresh waterproof adhesive to restore the original WR-50 rating. On a watch this age we also check the battery seat while it's open - swelling cells are a common hidden cause of lifted screens.

Apple Watch SE 1st Gen Battery Replacement

Apple Watch SE 1st Gen Battery Replacement

£79

Repair Description

This is the repair most SE 1st Gen owners need. Launched in 2020, these watches are now well past 1,000 charge cycles, and a cell rated for 18 hours new will often struggle to reach bedtime. Sudden shutdowns at 30%, dropping charge overnight, or a display lifting at one corner all point the same way.

We fit a certified high-capacity cell, verify the health readings, reseal the housing and pressure-check water resistance. If your screen has started to lift, stop wearing it and book in - a swollen lithium cell is a genuine safety risk, not just an inconvenience.

Apple Watch SE 1st Gen Charging Repair

Apple Watch SE 1st Gen Charging Repair

£79

Repair Description

Not charging, charging only at certain angles, or showing a red lightning bolt that never turns green? The SE 1st Gen charges wirelessly through an inductive coil behind its ceramic back, so faults usually trace to a failed coil, corrosion where sweat has sat against the puck, a worn charger cable, a faulty charge-management IC, or a battery too degraded to accept current.

We test puck, cable, coil and logic board in sequence rather than assuming - so you only pay for what's actually failed. Every charging repair leaves after a full bench charge cycle.

Repair Description

Unusual fault and no idea what's behind it? Our diagnostic service covers liquid and water damage, boot loops and watches stuck on the Apple logo, pairing and Bluetooth drop-outs, silent or muffled speakers, a dead Taptic Engine, seized Digital Crown or side button, heart-rate and GPS sensor faults, back cover separation, overheating, eSIM problems and logic-board level failures.

We assess your watch properly, identify the root cause, explain your options in plain English and confirm the full price before any work begins. If we can't fix it, you don't pay.

Apple Watch SE 1st Gen Repair: Still Worth Fixing

Released in September 2020, the 1st generation Apple Watch SE gave you the same processor as the Series 5, a bright 1,000-nit display, Fall Detection, Emergency SOS and heart-rate tracking, all at around half the flagship price. It skipped ECG and Blood Oxygen, but for everyday use – calls, notifications, workouts, Apple Pay – it does everything most people need.

What does catch up with it is age. Five years on, the processor is still perfectly capable, but the battery is worn out and the seals have hardened. A battery replacement typically buys another two to three years of use for a fraction of the cost of a new watch, which is why it’s by far the most common repair we do on this model.

Why Watch Repairs Aren’t Like Phone Repairs

Everything inside an Apple Watch SE is packed into a case roughly the size of a matchbox:

  • The display is bonded to the case rather than clipped in, so it has to be carefully heat-released
  • The battery sits glued into a recess only millimetres deep
  • The whole watch is sealed to keep water out, and that seal must be properly restored afterwards

Open one without the right heat and tooling and you’ll damage the display cable, ruin the seal, or puncture the battery. That’s why cheap watch repairs so often come back rattling, letting water in, or refusing to switch on at all.

We repair Apple Watches on a dedicated bench, by technicians who work on them every day, with quality parts and fresh waterproof adhesive on every reseal.

Which Apple Watch SE 1st Gen Do You Have?

Open the Watch app on your iPhone, tap General, then About to find your model number.

Model Size Type
A2351 40mm GPS
A2352 44mm GPS
A2355 40mm GPS + Cellular
A2356 44mm GPS + Cellular

Quick tip: a red ring around the Digital Crown means you have a Cellular model.

Telling it apart from the newer SE: the 1st Gen has a glossy black ceramic back whatever colour the case is. The 2nd Gen (2022) swapped this for a back that matches the case colour. The 40mm and 44mm use completely different screens and batteries, so let us know your model number and we’ll quote accurately first time.

The Problems We Fix Most Often

  • Worn batteries. Comfortably number one. Most SE 1st Gens are now well past their best. Look out for shutdowns above 20%, heavy overnight drain, or a corner of the screen starting to lift.
  • Cracked screens. The glass resists scratches well but not impacts. A door frame, a dropped weight or a fall onto a hard floor is usually all it takes.
  • Charging faults. Nearly always caused by sweat and grime building up between the back of the watch and the charger over the years.
  • Stiff or stuck Digital Crown. Very common with swimmers, runners and gym users, as salt and sun cream work their way inside until it stops turning.
  • Water getting in. Fine for swimming when new, but the seals stiffen with age. Hot showers, saunas and seawater are where five-year-old watches tend to give up.

What Happens When You Book

  1. Free check. We test the screen, touch, crown, buttons, sound, sensors and charging so we find the real fault, not just the obvious one.
  2. Fixed price. Exact cost and a realistic timescale before we start. Nothing goes ahead without your approval.
  3. The repair. Quality parts, the correct tools, and a proper waterproof reseal every time.
  4. Tested again. Full function check and a complete charge cycle before it’s packed up.

Your data is never accessed, and your watch is never wiped without your permission.

Repair or Replace? Our Honest View

One thing worth knowing first. The SE 1st Gen’s final software version is watchOS 10 – Apple stopped supporting this model at watchOS 11. So it won’t gain new features going forward, though calls, notifications, workouts, Apple Pay and heart-rate tracking all continue to work exactly as they always have. For most owners, repair is still the sensible choice. A new battery or screen costs a fraction of a new watch, takes a few days rather than a full setup from scratch, and keeps a perfectly usable watch out of landfill.

If you specifically want the newer health features – ECG, Blood Oxygen, Crash Detection or sleep apnoea notifications – then upgrading genuinely does make sense, and we’ll tell you so rather than sell you a repair you don’t need. We’ll also be honest when a repair isn’t worth your money. Serious water damage or a very heavy impact on a watch this age often can’t be fixed reliably, and we’d rather say so than take the job.
