The Huawei Mate 10 Lite was the affordable way into the Mate range, and it offered something the flagship did not: four cameras, two on the front and two on the back, at a time when most phones at its price had one of each. It is a very different handset from the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro, and it takes different parts.

How much does a Huawei Mate 10 Lite repair cost?

Our fixed prices at iExpert Repairs are:

  • Screen replacement – £89
  • Battery replacement – £55
  • Charging port repair – £49
  • Diagnostic service – £15

Each includes the part, the labour and a 12 month guarantee, with no assessment fee added afterwards.

Three Mate 10 phones, three different repairs

The Mate 10 Lite has a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and a tall 18:9 LCD. The standard Mate 10 has a front fingerprint pad below the screen. The Mate 10 Pro has an OLED and a rear reader. All three look broadly similar and none of them share a display assembly.

Open Settings, then About phone, before you ring anywhere. A panel ordered against the wrong Mate 10 will not fit, and that delay is entirely avoidable.

Four cameras means more glass to protect

The rear pair sit beneath a shared cover, so a single crack lets dust reach both lens assemblies at once. Photographs going soft or hazy after a drop usually points there rather than at software or age – and owners rarely think to mention it.

The front pair matter if you use portrait mode on selfies, because the second front lens supplies the depth information that effect depends on. If background blur has stopped working while ordinary selfies look fine, that is the likely cause.

The torch test worth running first

The Mate 10 Lite uses an LCD with a conventional backlight, which gives you a free diagnostic. If the phone appears dead – black screen, but it still rings, vibrates or shows up when connected to a computer – take it into a dark room and shine a torch at the display at an angle.

If the home screen is faintly visible, the backlight has failed rather than the handset. Everything on it is intact, and you are looking at an £89 screen replacement rather than a dead phone.

The fingerprint sensor is on the back

A conventional reader on the rear panel, entirely separate from the screen assembly. A screen replacement cannot break it and no re-enrolment is needed afterwards – one less thing to go wrong than on the standard Mate 10 with its front-mounted pad.

Battery replacement at £55

These are now several years into service and batteries are the most common reason they reach us. The cell is bonded in with adhesive that must be eased out slowly rather than levered, and the phone is charge-tested after reassembly.

Confirm the battery is at fault first. A worn cell handles messaging and browsing and then drops sharply during camera use, navigation or video calls. If the phone is slow rather than short of charge, check available storage – a nearly full handset crawls whatever the cell is doing.

Charging faults: three free checks

Change the cable, then the mains plug, then look into the socket with a torch for compacted pocket lint, which we clear at no charge. Only after all three is our £49 charging port repair the right answer, and plenty of people pay for port work a cheap cable would have solved.

What we check before your Mate 10 Lite goes back

A screen replacement is not finished when the display lights up. Before a Mate 10 Lite leaves us we test touch response into all four corners, the fingerprint reader, the earpiece and loudspeaker, the front and rear cameras, the proximity sensor and the ambient light sensor.

The proximity sensor is the one rushed repairs miss most often. Seated slightly out of position it fails to blank the display when you lift the phone to your ear, so your cheek presses buttons and mutes people mid-call. Owners reasonably assume that is a software bug – it is not, and catching it in the workshop takes minutes rather than costing you a second trip.

Is a Huawei Mate 10 Lite worth repairing?

On a handset that otherwise works, a single repair is usually easy arithmetic – you keep the phone, the apps and the data exactly as they are, for well under replacement cost. Where it stops adding up is two or three faults at once, and we will tell you when you have reached that point rather than quoting for all of them. If the phone holds photographs or messages that were never backed up, ask about data recovery before writing it off.

Liquid damage: what to do straight away

Switch the phone off immediately and leave it off. Do not connect a charger and do not keep switching it on to check whether it survived – power running through a wet board is what turns a recoverable handset into a dead one, and it causes more write-offs than the liquid itself. Rice does nothing useful. Getting it to us quickly, so the board can be cleaned before corrosion establishes itself, is what improves the odds. Our water damage repair service covers this.

How long does a Huawei Mate 10 Lite repair take?

Battery and charging work is usually completed the same day once the phone is with us. Screen replacement takes a little longer because the bonded assembly has to come out and go back cleanly, with the sensors tested afterwards. We confirm timing alongside the fixed quote and start only once you approve it.

Huawei Mate 10 Lite Repairs: Common Questions

How do I tell the Mate 10 Lite from the other Mate 10 models?

The Lite has a rear fingerprint sensor and a tall 18:9 LCD. The standard Mate 10 has a front fingerprint pad below the screen; the Pro has an OLED and a rear reader. All three look similar and none share a display assembly, so Settings then About phone is worth checking.

My photos have gone hazy since I dropped it. What is wrong?

Usually the rear camera glass. The two rear lenses sit beneath a shared cover, so one crack lets dust reach both assemblies at once. Owners rarely think to mention it, but it is far more often the cause than software or the phone simply ageing.

My selfie background blur has stopped working. Why?

That points at the second front camera, which supplies the depth information portrait mode relies on. If it is damaged or obscured, portrait shots lose their blur while ordinary selfies still look fine - which is why people assume it is software.

My Mate 10 Lite is black but still rings. Is it dead?

Probably not. Take it into a dark room and shine a torch at the screen at an angle - if the home screen is faintly visible, the backlight has failed rather than the phone. Everything on it is intact and you are looking at a screen replacement.

Will a screen repair affect the fingerprint reader?

No. The Mate 10 Lite uses a rear-mounted sensor, entirely separate from the screen assembly, so a screen replacement cannot break it and no re-enrolment is needed. That is one less thing to go wrong than on the standard Mate 10 with its front pad.

Is a Mate 10 Lite worth repairing?

For a single repair on a handset that still does what you need, yes. A £55 battery on a phone already set up the way you like it is easy arithmetic. Two repairs together is where it stops adding up, and we will say so rather than quoting for both.
