Apple Watch Series 5 Screen Replacement

Apple Watch Series 5 Screen Replacement

£159

Repair Description

Cracked glass, dead touch zones or faint ghosting on your watch face? Series 5 screens take more punishment than most, because the Always-On display keeps the OLED lit for far more of the day. The glass, digitiser and panel are bonded as one sealed assembly, so even a hairline crack invites moisture and touch faults later.

We heat-release the old assembly, clean the frame, transfer your sensors and fit a correctly matched replacement - Ion-X for aluminium cases, sapphire crystal for steel, titanium and ceramic - then reseal to restore the original WR-50 rating.

Apple Watch Series 5 Battery Replacement

Apple Watch Series 5 Battery Replacement

Repair Description

If your Series 5 barely reaches the evening, it's behaving exactly as expected. The Always-On display draws power continuously, and after six years and well over 1,000 charge cycles these cells are chemically spent - 18 hours new often becomes eight or nine.

We fit a certified high-capacity replacement, confirm the health readings, reseal the housing and pressure-test water resistance. Book in promptly if your screen has begun lifting at a corner: that's a swollen cell pushing the display out, and it's a safety issue rather than a cosmetic one.

Apple Watch Series 5 Charging Repair

Apple Watch Series 5 Charging Repair

Repair Description

Refusing to charge, charging only in one position, or stuck on a red lightning bolt? Your Series 5 charges wirelessly through an inductive coil behind its ceramic back, so the culprit is usually a failed coil, sweat corrosion between the back and the puck, a frayed charger cable, a faulty charge-management IC, or a battery too worn to accept current.

We test puck, cable, coil and logic board in that order rather than swapping parts hopefully - so you pay only for what genuinely failed. Every repair leaves after a full bench charge cycle.

Something else wrong and no clear cause? Our diagnostic service covers liquid and water damage, boot loops and watches stuck on the Apple logo, ECG and heart-sensor faults, pairing and Bluetooth drop-outs, silent speakers and muffled calls, a dead Taptic Engine, seized Digital Crown or side button, compass and GPS errors, cracked ceramic backs, overheating, eSIM problems and logic-board failures.

We assess the watch properly, pinpoint the root cause, explain your options in plain English and confirm the price before starting. No fix, no fee.

Apple Watch Series 5 Repair: Why the Always-On Display Changes Things

When Apple launched the Series 5 in September 2019, it was the first Apple Watch with an always-on display. Instead of switching off when you lower your wrist, the screen simply dims – so you can glance at the time without moving. Genuinely useful, and it changed how people wear these watches.

It also has two long-term side effects we see constantly. The first is battery wear. Keeping the screen lit around the clock uses far more power than the Series 4 did, so Series 5 batteries wear out sooner than the age of the watch alone would suggest. It’s easily the most common repair we carry out on this model.

The second is faint ghosting. On a small number of Series 5 watches, parts of the watch face that never move – hour markers, a permanent complication – leave a very slight shadow visible on plain backgrounds. It’s a normal characteristic of this type of screen rather than a fault, and a display replacement clears it completely.

Aluminium, Steel, Titanium or Ceramic? It Affects Your Repair

The Series 5 was the most varied Apple Watch ever made – four different case materials, and they don’t all use the same front glass:

  • Aluminium – Ion-X glass. Resists scratches well, but the easiest of the four to crack
  • Stainless steel – sapphire glass. Much tougher against knocks, heavier, and holds its value
  • Titanium (Edition) – sapphire glass, noticeably lighter than steel and naturally resistant to corrosion
  • Ceramic (Edition) – sapphire glass, almost impossible to scratch, but brittle under a sharp impact

This genuinely matters when you book. Sapphire screens cost more than Ion-X ones, and if you own a titanium or ceramic Edition model, repairing is nearly always the right call given what those watches cost new. Just tell us your case material and we’ll quote accurately first time.

Which Apple Watch Series 5 Do You Have?

Open the Watch app on your iPhone, tap General, then About to find your model number.

Model Size Type
A2092 40mm GPS
A2093 44mm GPS
A2156 40mm GPS + Cellular
A2157 44mm GPS + Cellular

Quick tip: a red ring around the Digital Crown means you have a Cellular model.

Telling it apart from a Series 4: the two look completely identical from the outside. The giveaway is software – the Series 5 has a Compass app and an always-on screen. If your watch face goes fully dark when you drop your wrist, and there’s no Compass app, you’ve got a Series 4.

The 40mm and 44mm use entirely different screens and batteries, so give us your model number and we’ll get the right part first time.

The Faults We See Most on the Series 5

  • Worn-out batteries. By far the most common, and the always-on screen is why. Look for shutdowns above 20%, heavy overnight drain, or a corner of the display starting to lift – that last one is a swollen battery and shouldn’t be left.
  • Cracked screens. Mostly on aluminium models. The steel, titanium and ceramic versions have sapphire glass and survive impacts that shatter aluminium ones outright.
  • Charging faults. Usually sweat and grime that has built up between the back of the watch and the charger over the years.
  • Digital Crown problems. Worth knowing: on the Series 5 the crown doubles as the sensor you touch to take an ECG reading. So a crown clogged with sweat, sun cream or gym chalk can affect both scrolling and your ECG results.
  • Water getting in. Fine for swimming when new, but the seals harden over six or seven years. Hot showers, saunas and seawater are where ageing Series 5 watches tend to fail.

What Happens When You Book

  1. Free check. We test the screen, touch response, crown, buttons, sound, ECG, sensors and charging, so we find the real fault rather than the obvious one.
  2. Fixed price. Exact cost and a realistic timescale before we begin. Nothing goes ahead until you approve it.
  3. The repair. Quality parts, the correct tools, and a proper waterproof reseal every time.
  4. Tested again. Full function check and a complete charge cycle before your watch is packed and returned.

Your data is never accessed, and your watch is never wiped without your permission.

Is a Series 5 Still Worth Repairing?

For most owners, yes – with one thing worth knowing first. The Series 5’s final software version is watchOS 10, as Apple ended support for this model at watchOS 11. It won’t gain new features from here. But calls, notifications, workouts, Apple Pay, ECG, the Compass and heart-rate tracking all continue to work exactly as they always have.

Set against the price of a new watch, a battery or screen replacement is comfortably better value. And if you own a stainless steel, titanium or ceramic Edition model, repairing is close to a non-decision – those were expensive watches and they’re well worth keeping going.

We’ll also tell you honestly when a repair doesn’t stack up. Serious water damage or a very heavy impact on a watch this age sometimes can’t be fixed reliably, and we’d rather say so than take your money.
