The Huawei Mate 10 was built around endurance. A large battery, an efficient chip and a 5.9-inch LCD gave it genuinely excellent stamina, and that is what owners remember about it. It is also why the decline is so obvious now – a phone that comfortably did two days is unmistakably failing when it no longer reaches the evening.

How much does a Huawei Mate 10 repair cost?

Our fixed prices at iExpert Repairs are:

  • Screen replacement – £99
  • Battery replacement – £55
  • Charging port repair – £49
  • Diagnostic service – £15

Each covers the part, the labour and a 12 month guarantee, with nothing added at the end.

Mate 10 or Mate 10 Pro? They are different phones

The standard Mate 10 uses an LCD and has a fingerprint sensor on the front, below the screen. The Mate 10 Pro uses an OLED and puts its fingerprint reader on the back. They look similar at a glance and take completely different display assemblies.

Settings, then About phone, confirms which you have in seconds. It is worth checking before you ring anywhere, because a panel ordered against the wrong model will not fit – and because the LCD in the standard Mate 10 gives you a free diagnostic the Pro does not have.

The battery is why these come to us

Lithium cells lose capacity by charge cycles rather than calendar age, so a Mate 10 used daily since launch will hold a fraction of its original capacity. At £55 a replacement is the single repair that most transforms how one of these feels, and on a handset that otherwise works it is straightforward money.

The cell is bonded in with adhesive that must be eased out slowly rather than levered, and the phone is charge-tested after reassembly rather than simply screwed back together. Confirm the battery is genuinely at fault first: a worn cell manages messaging and browsing and then drops sharply during camera use, navigation or video calls.

An LCD screen, and the torch test

The Mate 10 uses an LCD with a conventional backlight, which gives you a diagnostic that costs nothing. If the phone appears dead – black screen, but it still rings, vibrates or shows up when connected to a computer – take it into a dark room and shine a torch at the display at an angle.

If you can faintly make out the home screen, the backlight has failed rather than the handset. Everything on it is intact and recoverable, and you are looking at a screen replacement rather than a dead phone. A great many perfectly repairable devices get written off because nobody thought to try this.

The front fingerprint pad and screen repairs

Because the sensor sits in the bottom bezel immediately below the display, it has to be disconnected, transferred and reconnected during a screen replacement. A rushed job can leave you with a working screen and a fingerprint reader that no longer responds, so we test enrolment and unlock before any Mate 10 leaves us.

Is it slow, or is it simply full?

Worth separating before spending anything. A handset close to storage capacity behaves exactly like a failing one: apps crash on opening, the camera refuses to save shots, everything drags. None of that is a hardware fault and no repair addresses it.

Move photographs off, clear cached data and uninstall what you no longer use. It costs nothing and it resolves the complaint more often than people expect on phones of this age.

Charging faults: cable, plug, then lint

Change the cable first, because after this many years most originals have failed internally at the strain relief. Then change the mains plug. Then look into the socket with a torch for compacted pocket lint, which is very common on a phone this age and which we clear at no charge. Only after all three is our £49 charging port repair the right answer.

What we check before your Mate 10 goes back

A screen replacement is not finished when the display lights up. Before a Mate 10 leaves us we test touch response into all four corners, the fingerprint reader, the earpiece and loudspeaker, the front and rear cameras, the proximity sensor and the ambient light sensor.

The proximity sensor is the one rushed repairs miss most often. Seated slightly out of position it fails to blank the display when you lift the phone to your ear, so your cheek presses buttons and mutes people mid-call. Owners reasonably assume that is a software bug – it is not, and catching it in the workshop takes minutes rather than costing you a second trip.

Is a Huawei Mate 10 worth repairing?

On a handset that otherwise works, a single repair is usually easy arithmetic – you keep the phone, the apps and the data exactly as they are, for well under replacement cost. Where it stops adding up is two or three faults at once, and we will tell you when you have reached that point rather than quoting for all of them. If the phone holds photographs or messages that were never backed up, ask about data recovery before writing it off.

Liquid damage: what to do straight away

Switch the phone off immediately and leave it off. Do not connect a charger and do not keep switching it on to check whether it survived – power running through a wet board is what turns a recoverable handset into a dead one, and it causes more write-offs than the liquid itself. Rice does nothing useful. Getting it to us quickly, so the board can be cleaned before corrosion establishes itself, is what improves the odds. Our water damage repair service covers this.

How long does a Huawei Mate 10 repair take?

Battery and charging work is usually completed the same day once the phone is with us. Screen replacement takes a little longer because the bonded assembly has to come out and go back cleanly, with the sensors tested afterwards. We confirm timing alongside the fixed quote and start only once you approve it.

Huawei Mate 10 Repairs: Straight Answers

How do I tell a Mate 10 from a Mate 10 Pro?

The standard Mate 10 has an LCD and a fingerprint sensor on the front below the screen. The Pro has an OLED and a rear-mounted reader. They look similar at a glance but take completely different display assemblies, so Settings then About phone is worth checking before you ring anywhere.

My Mate 10 battery used to last two days. Why not now?

Because it genuinely did - this phone was built around endurance. Lithium cells lose capacity by charge cycles rather than calendar age, so one used daily since launch holds a fraction of its original capacity. At £55 it is the repair that most transforms the phone.

My Mate 10 is black but still rings. Is it dead?

Probably not. Take it into a dark room and shine a torch at the screen at an angle - if the home screen is faintly visible, the backlight has failed rather than the phone. This works because the standard Mate 10 uses an LCD; the Pro's OLED does not give you that test.

Will a screen repair affect my fingerprint sensor?

It can if the job is rushed. The sensor sits in the bottom bezel immediately below the display and must be disconnected, transferred and reconnected during a screen replacement. We test enrolment and unlock before the phone goes back.

My Mate 10 has become slow. Is that the battery?

Check the storage first. A handset close to capacity behaves exactly like a failing one - apps crash, the camera will not save shots, everything drags. Clearing space costs nothing and resolves the complaint more often than people expect on phones this age.

Is a Mate 10 still worth repairing?

For a single repair on a phone that still does what you need, yes. A £55 battery on a handset in otherwise sound condition transforms how it feels to use. Two or three faults at once is where it stops adding up, and we will say so rather than quoting for all of them.
