The Huawei Nova 9 gave the mid-range Nova line a curved OLED display and very fast charging, both of which were unusual at its price. Both also change what a repair involves, and they are the reason a screen here costs £149 rather than the £119 we charge on the flat-screened Nova 5T.

How much does a Huawei Nova 9 repair cost?

Our fixed prices at iExpert Repairs are:

  • Screen replacement – £149
  • Battery replacement – £65
  • Charging port repair – £59
  • Diagnostic service – £15

Each covers the part, the labour and a 12 month guarantee, with nothing added at the end.

A curved OLED at mid-range money

The Nova 9 uses an OLED panel that curves over both long edges – a specification usually reserved for flagships. It looks excellent and it makes the phone less forgiving of a drop onto its side, because the panel wraps around the point of impact.

That is why a Nova 9 screen costs more than a Nova 5T screen despite the two sitting in the same family. An OLED costs more to manufacture than an LCD, and a curved one has to be released with controlled heat and re-bonded evenly around the frame rather than simply unclipped.

The in-display fingerprint sensor

Unlike the Nova 5T, which puts its fingerprint reader in the side power button, the Nova 9 reads your fingerprint through the display. That adds a step to any screen replacement: the new panel must be seated correctly against the sensor and enrolment retested afterwards.

Skip it and the phone comes back with a perfect screen and a fingerprint reader that recognises nothing – something the owner discovers the next time they pick it up rather than in the shop. We test enrolment and unlock before any Nova 9 leaves us.

Fast charging and what it does to the battery

The Nova 9 supports very rapid wired charging, and that is a genuine convenience. It also means the cell spends its life being charged hard, and cells charged quickly age faster than those charged gently. Owners of these often notice battery decline sooner than they expect for a phone of this age.

At £65 a replacement is straightforward. The cell is bonded in with adhesive that must be eased out slowly rather than levered, and the phone is charge-tested after reassembly rather than simply screwed back together.

Before booking, confirm the battery is the problem. A worn cell handles messaging and browsing and then drops sharply during camera use, navigation or video calls. Sudden collapse under load is the signature.

Ghost touch after a poor screen repair

If the phone begins registering taps you did not make, that is ghost touch and it is not a software fault – a factory reset will not clear it. On a curved panel it is usually caused by a display seated under tension or with uneven adhesive, so the digitiser reads that constant pressure as a finger.

It frequently appears a week or two after a cheap repair rather than straight away, which is why owners rarely link the two events. A correctly fitted panel does not behave this way, and anything we fit is covered for 12 months if it does.

Charging faults: check these first

Change the USB-C cable, then change the mains plug – and make sure it is the proper high-wattage charger rather than a small spare, because an underpowered plug will show the phone as connected while charging painfully slowly. Then look into the socket with a torch for compacted pocket lint, which we clear at no charge. Only after all three is our £59 charging port repair the right answer.

What we check before your Nova 9 goes back

A screen replacement is not finished when the display lights up. We test touch response right into the curved edges, fingerprint enrolment and unlock, the earpiece and loudspeaker, the cameras, the proximity sensor and the ambient light sensor.

Touch response at the curve is the one worth insisting on. On a display that falls away at the sides, a panel can respond perfectly across the flat centre and read inconsistently in the last few millimetres at each edge – which is exactly where gesture controls live.

How long does a Huawei Nova 9 repair take?

Battery and charging work is usually completed the same day once the phone is with us. Screen replacement takes longer because the bonded assembly has to come out and go back cleanly, with the biometrics and sensors tested afterwards. We confirm timing alongside the fixed quote and start only once you approve it.

Where can I get a Huawei Nova 9 repaired?

iExpert Repairs handles Huawei Nova 9 repairs from our Essex workshop and accepts devices from anywhere in the UK by tracked, fully insured post, so being local is not a requirement. contact us to arrange it or to describe the fault first.

We cover Huawei repairs across every model, plus phone battery replacement and water damage repair. See our mobile phone repairs page for other brands and UK-wide tech repairs for everything else we handle.

Is a Nova 9 worth repairing?

On a handset that otherwise works, comfortably. The Nova 9 still handles everything a mid-range phone is asked to do, and at £65 a battery it is one of the more sensible repairs in the Nova range. A £149 screen is a bigger decision, though still well below replacement cost.

Where it stops adding up is two repairs at once – a curved screen and a battery together starts to approach what the phone is worth, and we will say so rather than quoting for both and letting you work it out afterwards. If the handset holds anything that was never backed up, ask about data recovery first.

Liquid damage: the first hour matters most

The Nova 9 has no meaningful water resistance. If liquid gets in, switch it off immediately and leave it off – do not connect a charger and do not keep switching it on to check whether it survived.

Power running through a wet board is what turns a recoverable phone into a dead one, and it accounts for more write-offs than the liquid itself. Rice achieves nothing useful; it draws surface moisture while corrosion spreads across the board underneath. Getting the handset to us quickly, so the board can be cleaned properly, is the only thing that genuinely improves the odds. Our water damage repair service covers this.

Huawei Nova 9 Repairs: Common Questions

Why is a Nova 9 screen more expensive than a Nova 5T screen?

Panel type and shape. The Nova 5T uses a flat LCD; the Nova 9 uses an OLED curved over both long edges. OLED costs more to manufacture, and a curved panel must be released with controlled heat and re-bonded evenly around the frame rather than simply unclipped.

Will my fingerprint reader still work after a screen repair?

Yes when the job is done properly, and we test it. Unlike the Nova 5T, which uses a side-button sensor, the Nova 9 reads fingerprints through the display - so the new panel has to be seated correctly against the sensor and enrolment retested afterwards.

My Nova 9 battery has faded faster than I expected. Why?

Fast charging is the usual reason. The Nova 9 charges very rapidly, which is convenient but means the cell spends its life being charged hard, and cells charged quickly age faster than those charged gently. At £65 a replacement restores it.

My phone is registering taps I did not make. Is that software?

No - that is ghost touch and a factory reset will not clear it. On a curved panel it is usually a display seated under tension or with uneven adhesive, so the digitiser reads that constant pressure as a finger. It often appears a week or two after a cheap repair.

Why does my Nova 9 charge so slowly now?

Check the plug before assuming a fault. This phone supports very high wattage charging, and an underpowered spare plug will show it as connected while charging painfully slowly. Change the plug, then the cable, then check the socket for compacted lint, which we clear free.

What should be tested after a Nova 9 screen repair?

Touch response right into the curved edges above all else. On a display that falls away at the sides, a panel can respond perfectly across the flat centre and read inconsistently in the last few millimetres - exactly where the gesture controls live. We also check the fingerprint sensor and cameras.
