The Huawei P Smart was everywhere in Britain for a couple of years. It went out on cheap contracts in enormous numbers, gave people a tall modern-looking screen at a price nothing else matched, and a great many are still in daily use. At £89 for a screen replacement they remain cheap to keep going.

How much does a Huawei P Smart repair cost?

Our fixed prices at iExpert Repairs are:

  • Screen replacement – £89
  • Battery replacement – £65
  • Charging port repair – £59
  • Diagnostic service – £15

Each includes the part, the labour and a 12 month guarantee, with no assessment fee added afterwards. The £15 diagnostic applies only to faults outside this list and includes a fixed quote before any work begins.

P Smart or P Smart Plus? Count the cameras

Huawei used the P Smart name across several different handsets, and mixing them up is the most common reason a repair gets delayed. The quickest check is the rear camera: the standard P Smart has two lenses, while the P Smart Plus has two on the back and two on the front.

Open Settings, then About phone, to be certain. It genuinely matters, because the models take different display assemblies and a panel ordered against the wrong name will not fit. Quote the model number when you contact us and we can confirm the correct part and price on the first conversation rather than the second.

The torch test worth running before anything else

The P Smart uses an LCD with a backlight behind it, which gives you a free diagnostic. If the phone appears dead – black screen, but it still rings, vibrates or shows up when connected to a computer – take it into a dark room and shine a torch at the display at an angle.

If the home screen is faintly visible, the backlight has failed rather than the handset. Everything on it is intact and recoverable, and you are looking at a screen replacement rather than a dead phone. On a budget handset that single free check regularly decides whether a device gets repaired or thrown away.

The fingerprint sensor is on the back

The P Smart has a conventional fingerprint reader on the rear panel, entirely separate from the display. A screen replacement cannot break it and no re-enrolment is needed afterwards, which removes a step that causes genuine problems on Huawei’s later flagships where the sensor sits behind the screen.

Battery replacement at £65

These are now several years into service and batteries are overwhelmingly the most common reason they reach us. The cell is bonded in with adhesive that must be eased out slowly rather than levered, and the phone is charge-tested after reassembly rather than simply screwed back together.

Confirm the battery is genuinely at fault first. A worn cell handles messaging and browsing perfectly well and then drops sharply during camera use, navigation or video calls. Sudden collapse under load is the signature.

Is it slow, or is it full?

These need different answers and only one costs money. The P Smart shipped with modest storage, and once close to capacity it behaves exactly like a failing phone: apps crash on opening, the camera refuses to save shots, everything drags.

Move photographs off, clear cached data and uninstall what you no longer use before booking anything. It costs nothing and it resolves the complaint far more often than people expect on handsets of this age.

Charging faults: three free checks

Change the cable first, because after this many years most originals have failed internally at the strain relief. Then change the mains plug. Then look into the socket with a torch for compacted pocket lint, which is very common on a phone this age and which we clear at no charge.

Only when all three come back clean is our £59 charging port repair the right answer. On a handset at this price, paying for port work that a cheap cable would have fixed is a genuinely poor outcome.

Is a P Smart worth repairing?

For a single repair on a phone that still does what you need, yes. A £65 battery on a handset already set up the way you like it is fair money. Two repairs at once is where it stops adding up – a screen and a battery together comes close to what the phone is worth, and we will say so rather than quoting for both and letting you work it out afterwards.

The same guarantee, whatever the phone cost

Every repair we carry out on a P Smart carries 12 months of cover on the part and the workmanship alike – exactly the same guarantee we give a phone costing ten times as much. If a replacement screen develops dead touch zones, or a new battery will not hold charge in normal use, it comes straight back to us and we sort it at no cost to you. A fresh drop is a new accident rather than a failed repair, and we say so plainly rather than hiding it in the small print.

The parts cost less because the components cost less, not because there is a cheaper tier of workmanship for budget handsets. There is not, and we would not want there to be.

Liquid damage: act in the first hour

The P Smart has no meaningful water resistance. If liquid gets in, switch it off immediately and leave it off – do not plug in a charger and do not keep switching it on to check whether it survived.

Power running through a wet board is what turns a recoverable phone into a dead one, and it accounts for more write-offs than the liquid itself does. Rice is not a treatment; it draws off surface moisture while corrosion quietly spreads across the board underneath. What genuinely improves the odds is speed – getting the handset to us so the board can be cleaned before that corrosion sets. Our water damage repair service covers exactly this, and where the board cannot be saved we can usually still attempt data recovery.

Where can I get a Huawei P Smart repaired?

iExpert Repairs handles Huawei P Smart repairs from our Essex workshop and accepts devices from anywhere in the UK by tracked, insured post, so being local is not a requirement. contact us to arrange it or to confirm which P Smart you have first.

We cover Huawei repairs across every model, plus phone battery replacement, water damage repair and data recovery where a handset cannot be economically saved. See our mobile phone repairs page for other brands and UK-wide tech repairs for other devices.

Huawei P Smart Repairs: Common Questions

How do I tell a P Smart from a P Smart Plus?

Count the cameras. The standard P Smart has two lenses on the back; the P Smart Plus has two on the back and two on the front. Settings, then About phone, confirms it outright. It matters because the models take different display assemblies and a panel ordered against the wrong name will not fit.

My P Smart is black but still rings. Is it dead?

Probably not. Take it into a dark room and shine a torch at the screen at an angle - if the home screen is faintly visible, the backlight has failed rather than the phone. Everything on it is intact. On a budget handset this single free check regularly decides whether a device gets repaired or thrown away.

Will a screen repair affect my fingerprint sensor?

No. The P Smart has a conventional reader on the rear panel, entirely separate from the display, so a screen replacement cannot break it and no re-enrolment is needed. On Huawei's later flagships, where the sensor sits behind the screen, that is a genuine risk - here it is not.

My P Smart has become slow. Is that the battery?

Check the storage first. This model shipped with modest capacity, and once close to full it behaves exactly like a failing phone - apps crash, the camera will not save shots, everything drags. Clearing space costs nothing. A genuine battery fault looks different: fine for messaging, then collapsing during camera use or navigation.

Is a P Smart worth repairing?

For a single repair on a phone that still does what you need, yes. A £65 battery on a handset already set up the way you like it is fair money. Two repairs at once is where it stops adding up, because a screen and a battery together comes close to what the phone is worth - and we will say so.

My P Smart got wet. What should I do first?

Switch it off immediately and leave it off. Do not plug in a charger and do not keep switching it on to check - power through a wet board causes more write-offs than the liquid itself. Rice is not a treatment; it draws surface moisture while corrosion spreads underneath. Speed is what improves the odds, so get it to us to be cleaned.
