Huawei P Smart S Repair
The Huawei P Smart S is unusual for its price bracket - it has an OLED display with the fingerprint sensor built into the screen rather than the rear panel, which means a screen replacement has to restore that sensor as well. We seat replacement panels correctly against it and retest enrolment before the phone leaves us, so you are not left with a working display and a reader that recognises nothing. All repairs carry a 12-month warranty.

The Huawei P Smart S is unusual for a budget phone: it has an OLED display with the fingerprint sensor built into the screen itself, at a price where almost everything else used an LCD and a rear-mounted reader. Both of those change what a repair involves, and they are worth understanding before you accept a quote.
How much does a Huawei P Smart S repair cost?
Our fixed prices at iExpert Repairs are:
- Screen replacement – £95
- Battery replacement – £55
- Charging port repair – £55
- Diagnostic service – £15
Each includes the part, the labour and a 12 month guarantee, with no assessment fee added afterwards. The £15 diagnostic applies only to faults outside this list and includes a fixed quote before any work begins.
An in-display fingerprint sensor at budget money
This is the detail that catches repairers out. Most phones at this price put the fingerprint reader on the back, where a screen replacement cannot touch it. The P Smart S reads your fingerprint through the display, using a sensor mounted behind the panel.
That means a screen replacement has to seat the new panel correctly against the sensor and retest enrolment afterwards. Skip that step and the phone comes back with a flawless screen and a fingerprint reader that no longer recognises anything – something the owner discovers the next time they pick it up rather than in the shop. We test enrolment and unlock before any P Smart S leaves us, and it is worth asking about anywhere else you get a quote.
OLED, not LCD – and what that rules out
Because the panel is an OLED, the usual budget-phone torch test does not apply here. On an LCD handset you can shine a torch at a black screen and often see the faint home screen, proving the backlight has failed rather than the phone. An OLED has no backlight, so a blank screen needs a proper diagnosis instead of that shortcut.
An OLED can also be damaged by a drop even when the outer glass survives looking intact. If colours have shifted, a coloured line has appeared, or an area has stopped responding to touch, that is the panel rather than the glass, and the full assembly needs replacing. There is no cheaper glass-only route on a bonded OLED.
Which P Smart do you actually have?
Huawei used the P Smart name across several very different handsets, and mixing them up is the most common reason a repair on these gets delayed. The P Smart S is the one with the OLED screen and no fingerprint sensor on the rear panel – if yours has a round reader on the back, you have a different model.
Open Settings, then About phone, to be certain. A display ordered against the wrong P Smart simply will not fit, and the delay while the right one is sourced is entirely avoidable.
Battery replacement at £55
The cell is bonded in with adhesive that must be eased out slowly rather than levered, and the phone is charge-tested after reassembly rather than simply screwed back together. On a handset at this price a £55 battery is easy arithmetic when the cell is genuinely the problem.
Confirm that it is. A worn cell handles messaging and browsing perfectly well and then drops sharply during camera use, navigation or video calls. Sudden collapse under load is the signature. If the phone is slow rather than short of charge, check how full the storage is first – a nearly full handset crawls whatever the battery is doing, and clearing space costs nothing.
Charging faults: three free checks
Change the USB-C cable, because after several years most original cables have failed internally at the strain relief. Then change the mains plug. Then look into the socket with a torch for compacted pocket lint, which is very common on a phone that lives in a pocket and which we clear at no charge.
Only when all three come back clean is our £55 charging port repair the right answer. On a handset at this price, paying for port work that a cheap replacement cable would have fixed is a genuinely poor outcome.
Is a Huawei P Smart S worth repairing?
On a handset that otherwise works, a single repair is usually easy arithmetic – you keep the phone, the apps and the data exactly as they are, for well under replacement cost. Where it stops adding up is two or three faults at once, and we will tell you when you have reached that point rather than quoting for all of them and hoping you do not run the numbers. If the phone holds photographs or messages that were never backed up, ask about data recovery before writing it off.
Liquid damage: what to do straight away
Switch the phone off immediately and leave it off. Do not connect a charger and do not keep switching it on to check whether it survived – power running through a wet board is what turns a recoverable handset into a dead one, and it causes more write-offs than the liquid itself. Rice does nothing useful. Getting it to us quickly, so the board can be cleaned before corrosion establishes itself, is what improves the odds. Our water damage repair service covers this.
How long does a Huawei P Smart S repair take?
Battery and charging work is usually completed the same day once the phone is with us. Screen replacement takes longer because the bonded assembly has to come out and go back cleanly, with biometrics and sensors tested afterwards. We confirm timing alongside the fixed quote and start only once you approve it.

Huawei P Smart S Repairs: Straight Answers
Does the P Smart S really have an in-display fingerprint sensor?
Yes, which is unusual at this price - most budget phones put the reader on the back. It means a screen replacement has to seat the new panel correctly against the sensor behind it and retest enrolment. Skip that and you get a flawless screen paired with a reader that recognises nothing.
Can I do the torch test on a P Smart S?
No, and that is worth knowing. The torch test works on LCD phones because a failed backlight leaves the image faintly visible. The P Smart S uses an OLED, which has no backlight, so a blank screen needs a proper diagnosis rather than that shortcut.
How do I know which P Smart I have?
Open Settings, then About phone. The P Smart S is the one with an OLED screen and no fingerprint reader on the rear panel - if yours has a round sensor on the back, it is a different model. Huawei reused this name across several handsets and a display ordered against the wrong one will not fit.
My screen is not cracked but the colours look wrong. Is that fixable?
Yes, and it is the panel rather than the glass. OLED displays can be damaged by a drop even when the outer glass survives intact. Shifted colours, a coloured line, or an area that has stopped responding to touch all mean the full assembly needs replacing.
My P Smart S is slow. Would a new battery help?
Check the storage first, because a nearly full handset crawls regardless of battery health and clearing space costs nothing. A genuine battery fault looks different: fine for messaging and browsing, then collapsing during camera use, navigation or video calls.
Do I need a charging port repair or just a cable?
Try the free things first. Change the USB-C cable, change the mains plug, then check the socket with a torch for compacted lint, which we clear at no charge. On a phone at this price, paying for port work a cheap cable would have fixed is a poor outcome.
