At £189 for a screen replacement it costs slightly more to re-screen than the Pro, which surprises people – there is a straightforward reason, covered below.
How much does a Huawei P30 repair cost?
Our fixed prices at iExpert Repairs are:
- Screen replacement – £189
- Battery replacement – £59
- Charging port repair – £55
- Diagnostic service – £15
Each covers the part, the labour and a 12 month guarantee, with nothing added at the end.
Why the P30 can cost more to re-screen than the P30 Pro
Panel pricing follows supply rather than model tier. The P30 Pro sold in larger numbers and remained in circulation longer, so replacement panels for it are more plentiful.
It is worth understanding because the figure looks wrong at first glance. If a repairer quotes you the same price for a P30 and a P30 Pro, they are either not distinguishing between them or not pricing accurately – the two take different assemblies entirely.
The in-display fingerprint sensor
The P30 reads your fingerprint through the screen using an optical sensor mounted behind the panel. It is a step a hurried screen replacement will skip: the new display has to be seated correctly against that sensor and enrolment tested afterwards.
Otherwise the phone comes back with a perfect screen and a fingerprint reader that no longer recognises anything, which the owner discovers the next time they pick it up rather than in the shop. We test enrolment and unlock before any P30 leaves us, and it is a reasonable thing to ask about anywhere you get a quote.
OLED, and what that means after a drop
The P30 uses an OLED panel, which produces the deep blacks and strong contrast the phone was praised for and which is more delicate than an LCD. A drop can damage the display even where the outer glass looks intact.
If colours have shifted, a coloured line has appeared down the screen, or an area has stopped responding to touch, that is the panel rather than the glass and it needs the full assembly replacing. There is no cheaper glass-only route on a bonded OLED like this – anyone offering one is either quoting for a different phone or planning something that will not last.
Battery replacement at £59
These are now several years old and batteries are the most common reason they arrive with us. The cell is bonded in with adhesive strips that must be eased out slowly rather than levered, and the phone is charge-tested after reassembly rather than simply screwed back together.
Check the battery is genuinely the problem first. A worn cell manages messaging and browsing and then drops sharply during camera use, navigation or video calls. Sudden collapse under load is the giveaway. If the phone is slow rather than short of charge, look at available storage before assuming the battery, because a nearly full handset behaves sluggishly whatever the cell is doing.
Charging faults: three free checks
Change the USB-C cable, then change the mains plug, then look into the socket with a torch for compacted pocket lint. That last one is the most common cause of a cable that will not seat fully, and clearing it is not a chargeable job here. Only after all three is our £55 charging port repair the right answer, and plenty of people pay for port work a cheap cable would have solved.
Check your storage before you spend anything
A large share of the P30s brought to us as “failing” are simply full. These shipped with a fixed amount of storage and no memory card slot on most variants, and once a handset is close to capacity it slows noticeably, apps crash, the camera refuses to save shots and updates fail silently. None of that is a hardware fault and no repair addresses it.
Before booking anything, move your photographs off, clear cached data and uninstall what you no longer use. It costs nothing and it resolves the complaint often enough that we would rather tell you than take a booking. If the phone is still misbehaving afterwards, that is when a diagnostic is worth paying for – and our £15 charge covers a proper investigation with a fixed quote before any work starts.
Ghost touch after a poor screen repair
If your P30 begins registering taps you did not make – apps launching on their own, text appearing in the keyboard, scrolling that will not settle – that is ghost touch. It is not a software problem and a factory reset will not clear it.
On a bonded OLED it is usually caused by a panel seated under tension or with uneven adhesive, so the digitiser reads that constant pressure as a finger. It frequently appears a week or two after a cheap repair rather than straight away, which is why owners rarely link the two events. A correctly fitted panel does not behave this way, and anything we fit is covered for 12 months if it does.
What we check before your P30 goes back
A screen replacement is not finished when the display lights up. Before a P30 leaves us we test touch response into all four corners, fingerprint enrolment and unlock, the earpiece and loudspeaker, both front and rear cameras, the proximity sensor that blanks the screen during calls, and the ambient light sensor that drives automatic brightness.
Those last two are the ones rushed repairs miss most often. A phone with a misaligned proximity sensor will keep the screen lit against your ear during calls, muting people with your cheek – a fault that looks like a software bug and is not. Catching it in the workshop takes minutes. Catching it a fortnight later costs you your phone for a second time.
How long does a Huawei P30 repair take?
Battery and charging work is usually same-day once the phone is with us. Screen replacement takes longer because the bonded OLED has to come out cleanly and the fingerprint sensor needs testing afterwards. We confirm timing with the fixed quote and begin only once you approve it.

Huawei P30 Repairs: Common Questions
Will my fingerprint reader still work after a screen repair?
Yes, when the job is done properly, and we test it before the phone goes back. The P30 reads fingerprints through the display using an optical sensor behind the panel, so the new screen must be seated correctly against it and enrolment retested. A rushed repair leaves a perfect screen and a reader that recognises nothing.
Can I have just the glass replaced?
Not on this model. The P30 uses a bonded OLED assembly where the glass, touch layer and display are a single unit. Anyone offering a cheap glass-only repair is either quoting for a different phone or planning something that will not last. Everything is replaced together, which is why the price is what it is.
My screen is not cracked but the colours look wrong. Is that repairable?
Yes, and it is the panel rather than the glass. OLED displays can be damaged by a drop even when the outer glass survives intact. Shifted colours, a coloured line down the screen, or an area that has stopped responding to touch all mean the assembly needs replacing.
My P30 feels slow. Would a new battery help?
Check the storage first, because a nearly full handset behaves sluggishly regardless of battery health and clearing space costs nothing. A genuine battery fault looks different: fine for messaging and browsing, then collapsing during camera use, navigation or video calls.
My P30 is opening apps on its own. Is it broken?
That is ghost touch, and it is not software - a factory reset will not clear it. On a bonded OLED it is usually a panel seated under tension or with uneven adhesive, so the digitiser reads that constant pressure as a finger. It often appears a week or two after a cheap repair rather than immediately.
What do you test after replacing a P30 screen?
Touch response into all four corners, fingerprint enrolment and unlock, earpiece and loudspeaker, both cameras, the proximity sensor and the ambient light sensor. The last two are what rushed repairs miss - a misaligned proximity sensor keeps the screen lit against your ear during calls, which looks like a software bug and is not.
