How we protect your data?
The Huawei P40 Lite is the most affordable phone in the P40 family and the easiest of them to keep running. At £99 for a screen replacement it costs half what the standard P40 does, and there are two straightforward reasons for that – both of which work in your favour.
How much does a Huawei P40 Lite repair cost?
Our fixed prices at iExpert Repairs are:
- Screen replacement – £99
- Battery replacement – £65
- Charging port repair – £59
- Diagnostic service – £15
Each includes the part, the labour and a 12 month guarantee, with no assessment fee added afterwards. The £15 diagnostic applies only to faults outside this list and includes a fixed quote before any work begins.
An LCD screen and a fingerprint sensor in the power button
The standard P40 uses an OLED panel with the fingerprint reader hidden behind it. The P40 Lite uses an LCD, and puts its fingerprint sensor in the side power button instead. Both differences reduce what a repair costs and what can go wrong during one.
The panel is cheaper because LCD is cheaper to manufacture. And because the fingerprint sensor is a separate component in the frame rather than mounted behind the display, a screen replacement cannot break it and no re-enrolment is needed afterwards. On the standard P40 that is the step a rushed repair skips, leaving the owner with a perfect screen and a reader that recognises nothing. Here it simply is not a risk.
The torch test worth running first
Because the P40 Lite has an LCD with a backlight behind it, there is a free check that saves a surprising number of these phones. If yours appears dead – black screen, but it still rings, vibrates or shows up when connected to a computer – take it into a dark room and shine a torch at the display at an angle.
If you can faintly make out the home screen, the backlight has failed rather than the handset. Everything on it is intact and recoverable, and you are looking at a £99 screen replacement rather than a dead phone. Plenty of perfectly repairable devices get written off because nobody thought to try this.
Battery replacement at £65
The P40 Lite carried a large battery relative to its price, which is a good part of why owners liked it. After several years of daily cycling, capacity drops noticeably, and this is the most common reason these arrive with us.
The cell is bonded in with adhesive that must be eased out slowly rather than levered, and the phone is charge-tested after reassembly rather than simply screwed back together. Confirm the battery is genuinely at fault first: a worn cell handles messaging and browsing perfectly well and then drops sharply during camera use, navigation or video calls. Sudden collapse under load is the signature.
Is the phone slow, or just full?
Worth separating, because they need different answers. If your P40 Lite has become sluggish, apps crash on opening, or the camera refuses to save shots, check how full the storage is before booking anything. A handset close to capacity behaves exactly like a failing one, and no repair addresses it.
Move photographs off, clear cached data and uninstall what you no longer use. It costs nothing and resolves the complaint often enough that we would rather tell you than take a booking. If the phone still misbehaves afterwards, that is when a diagnostic earns its keep.
Charging faults: three free checks
Change the USB-C cable, then change the mains plug. Then look into the socket with a torch for compacted pocket lint, which is the most likely cause of a cable that will not seat properly and which we clear at no charge. Only when all three come back clean is our £59 charging port repair the right answer.
On a phone at this price, paying for port work that a cheap replacement cable would have fixed is a genuinely poor outcome, and it happens more often than it should.
How our mail-in repair service works
Being nowhere near Essex is not an obstacle. Tell us the model and describe the fault, and we will give you an indication of price and timescale before anything is posted. You send the phone in tracked and insured, we diagnose it properly when it arrives, and we come back with a fixed price.
No work begins until you approve that figure. If the fault turns out to be different from what you expected, you hear about it before anything is done rather than seeing it on an invoice afterwards, and if you would rather not proceed we return the handset. On a phone at this price that matters, because the difference between a sensible repair and a poor one is often just a few pounds.
Fitting a screen protector after a repair
Give it a day or two first. A replacement panel is bonded to the frame with fresh adhesive, and pressing a protector down firmly before that has cured can lift an edge or seat the display slightly out of plane.
After that, a plain tempered glass protector is genuinely worth having. It sits flush on a flat screen like this one, it absorbs the small knocks that would otherwise chip a corner of the glass, and replacing a cheap protector is a far better outcome than paying for another screen. On a budget handset, that arithmetic is not close.
How long does a Huawei P40 Lite repair take?
Battery and charging work is usually completed the same day once the phone is with us. Screen replacement takes a little longer because the bonded assembly has to come out and go back cleanly. We confirm timing alongside the fixed quote and start only once you approve it.
Where can I get a Huawei P40 Lite repaired?
iExpert Repairs handles Huawei P40 Lite repairs from our Essex workshop and accepts devices from anywhere in the UK by tracked, insured post, so being local is not a requirement. contact us to arrange it or to describe the fault first.
We cover Huawei repairs across every model, plus phone battery replacement, water damage repair and data recovery where a handset cannot be economically saved. See our mobile phone repairs page for other brands and UK-wide tech repairs for everything else we handle.
Huawei P40 Lite Repairs: Common Questions
Why is the P40 Lite half the price of the P40 to re-screen?
Two reasons, both in your favour. The Lite uses an LCD rather than the P40's OLED, and LCD is cheaper to manufacture. It also puts the fingerprint sensor in the side power button rather than behind the display, which removes a step from the repair entirely.
Will a screen repair affect my fingerprint sensor?
No. The P40 Lite's sensor sits in the side power button as a separate component in the frame, so a screen replacement cannot break it and no re-enrolment is needed. On the standard P40, where the reader is behind the display, that is a real risk - here it is not.
My P40 Lite is black but still rings. Is it finished?
Probably not. Take it into a dark room and shine a torch at the screen at an angle - if the home screen is faintly visible, the backlight has failed rather than the phone. Everything on it is intact. This test works because the Lite uses an LCD with a backlight rather than an OLED.
My P40 Lite has become slow. Is that the battery?
Check the storage first. A handset close to capacity behaves exactly like a failing one - apps crash, the camera refuses to save shots, everything drags - and no repair fixes that. Move photographs off and clear cached data. A genuine battery fault looks different: fine for messaging, then collapsing during camera use or navigation.
Do I need a charging port repair or just a new cable?
Try the free things first. Change the USB-C cable, change the mains plug, then check the socket with a torch for compacted lint, which we clear at no charge. On a phone at this price, paying for port work a cheap cable would have solved is a poor outcome and it happens more than it should.
Can I use you if I am not near Essex?
Yes. Tell us the model and describe the fault, and we will indicate price and timescale before anything is posted. You send it tracked and insured, we diagnose it on arrival and come back with a fixed price. No work begins until you approve it, and if you would rather not proceed we return the handset.
