The torch test before you write it off

If you can faintly make out the home screen, the backlight has failed rather than the handset. The fingerprint sensor is on the back

Worth separating before you spend anything, because only one costs money. The Y9 shipped with modest storage, and once close to capacity it behaves exactly like a failing phone: apps crash on opening, the camera refuses to save shots, everything drags, updates fail without explanation.

Move photographs off, clear cached data and uninstall what you no longer use. It costs nothing and on handsets of this age it resolves the complaint more often than any repair would. If the phone still misbehaves afterwards, that is when a diagnostic earns its keep.

Charging faults: free checks first

Clearing compacted lint from the socket is not a chargeable job here, and on a phone this age it is the most likely cause of a cable that will not seat properly. After that, change the cable and then the mains plug, because worn cheap cables cause far more of these faults than broken ports do.
