The fourth generation 11-inch iPad Pro introduced one feature that matters more for repairs than anything else on the specification sheet: Apple Pencil hover. The screen detects the Pencil while it is still above the glass, and that capability depends entirely on the digitiser being right. It is the reason a cheap screen replacement on this model can look perfect and still be wrong.
How much does an iPad Pro 11-inch (4th gen, 2022) repair cost?
Our fixed prices at iExpert Repairs are:
- Screen replacement – £169
- Battery replacement – £69
- Charging port repair – £65
- Diagnostic service – £15
Each covers the part, the labour and a 12 month guarantee, with nothing added afterwards. The £15 diagnostic applies only to faults outside this list and includes a fixed quote before any work starts.
Apple Pencil hover, and why it complicates screen repairs
Hover lets the iPad see the Pencil roughly a centimetre above the glass, so brushes preview before you commit a stroke and buttons highlight as the tip approaches. Illustrators who have got used to it find working without it genuinely frustrating.
The catch is that hover asks far more of the digitiser than touch does. A panel only has to register a finger that is physically touching it; hover requires it to sense a Pencil that is not touching it at all, accurately, across the entire surface. A substandard replacement assembly can pass every ordinary touch test and still have hover that works in the middle of the screen and fades near the edges.
We test hover specifically before returning any 4th generation Pro, along with pressure sensitivity and tracking into all four corners. If you use this iPad to draw, ask whoever repairs it – us or anyone else – whether they test for it. Many do not, and it is not something you discover until you are mid-illustration.
The cheapest charging repair on any iPad Pro
At £65 the charging port repair on this model is the lowest of any iPad Pro we handle. Before booking it though, work through the free checks, because they resolve most cases. Change the USB-C cable. Change the mains adapter and check it is powerful enough, since an underpowered brick shows the iPad as connected while adding almost nothing. Then look into the socket with a torch for compacted pocket lint, which we clear at no charge.
Face ID and True Tone after a screen replacement
Face ID sits in the bezel as a separate module rather than being bonded into the display as it is on iPhone, so it transfers to a new panel and continues working normally. Ambient light sensing and True Tone calibration also need restoring properly – a screen fitted without that leaves you with a display that no longer adapts to room lighting. It is subtle, and it is instantly noticeable to anybody used to it. We check both before the device goes back.
Battery replacement at £69
The cell is bonded in with adhesive strips that must be eased out slowly rather than levered, and the iPad is charge-tested after reassembly rather than simply screwed back together. At £69 on an M2 device still worth well over a thousand pounds new, this is not a difficult decision if the battery is genuinely the problem.
Confirm that it is. A worn cell handles reading and streaming perfectly well and then drops sharply during video calls, gaming or a long drawing session. Sudden collapse under load is the signature. If the iPad simply feels slow instead, that is worth diagnosing rather than assuming, because an M2 does not become slow with age.
Check the frame before ordering a panel
Flat-edged iPad Pros deform rather than shatter when they land badly, and a bent chassis is the most common reason a screen repair fails weeks after it was done. A new panel needs a flat frame to bond against; fitted to a bent one it sits proud at a corner, flexes under pressure and cracks again.
Rest the iPad face-down on a genuinely flat surface and press each corner in turn. Any rocking means the frame has moved, and we need to know before we order a part rather than after you have paid for one.
Is a 2022 iPad Pro worth repairing?
Comfortably. The M2 remains fast enough for professional creative work and will be supported for years, so a repair on this device buys you a long time rather than a short reprieve. At £169 a screen it is also a fraction of what a current OLED iPad Pro costs to put right. The only case where it stops adding up is several faults together alongside a bent chassis, and we will tell you that rather than quoting for all of them.
How long does a 2022 iPad Pro 11-inch repair take?
Battery and charging work is usually completed the same day once the device is with us. Screen replacement takes longer because the bonded assembly must come out cleanly, the Face ID module needs transferring carefully, and hover, pressure and True Tone all need testing afterwards. We confirm timing with the fixed quote.
Where can I get a 2022 iPad Pro repaired?
iExpert Repairs handles M2 iPad Pro repairs from our Essex workshop and accepts devices from anywhere in the UK by tracked, fully insured post. contact us to arrange it or to describe the fault first.
We cover iPad screen repair, iPad battery replacement, iPad charging port repair and iPad water damage repair across every iPad generation, offer data recovery where a device cannot be saved, and handle other brands under tablet repair. Our iPad repair page lists every model we support.
Do you repair iPad Pros for illustrators and studios?
Regularly, and the M2 Pro is the model we see most often from people who draw for a living. That context changes what a good repair means. A general customer notices a cracked screen; an illustrator notices that pressure now reads slightly differently at the top of the canvas, or that hover drops out near the left margin. Both are real faults and only one of them shows up in a standard test.
If the iPad is a working tool, tell us when you get in touch. We will test hover, pressure curve and corner tracking rather than checking that touch responds and calling it done, and we will be honest about turnaround rather than optimistic. If you are running several devices in a studio, contact us and we will quote the batch properly.
2022 M2 iPad Pro 11-inch Repairs: Questions Answered
What is Apple Pencil hover and why does it matter for repairs?
Hover lets the iPad detect the Pencil about a centimetre above the glass, so brushes preview before you commit a stroke. It asks far more of the digitiser than touch does - sensing something that is not touching the panel at all, accurately, across the whole surface. A poor replacement can pass every touch test and still have hover that fades near the edges.
How do I know a screen repair preserved hover?
Ask whoever does the work whether they test for it specifically - many do not. We check hover, pressure sensitivity and tracking into all four corners before any 4th generation Pro leaves us. It is not a fault you discover during casual use; it turns up mid-illustration, weeks later.
Why is the charging repair only £65 on this model?
It is the cheapest charging port repair of any iPad Pro we handle. Before booking it though, change the USB-C cable, change the mains adapter and check its wattage, then look into the socket for compacted lint - we clear that at no charge. Those three checks resolve most cases without anyone paying anything.
Is an M2 iPad Pro worth repairing?
Comfortably. The M2 is still fast enough for professional creative work and will be supported for years, so a repair buys you a long time rather than a short reprieve. At £169 a screen it is also a fraction of what a current OLED iPad Pro costs to fix.
Will Face ID work after the screen is replaced?
Yes. On iPad the Face ID array is a separate module in the bezel rather than bonded into the display as on iPhone, so it transfers across and keeps working. We also restore ambient light sensing and True Tone, which a rushed repair often leaves broken and which you notice immediately.
My iPad feels slow. Would a new battery help?
Probably not, and we would rather say so than take the booking. An M2 does not become slow with age, so sluggishness is worth diagnosing rather than assuming. A genuine battery fault looks different - fine while reading or streaming, then collapsing during video calls, gaming or a long drawing session.
