iPhone 7 Plus Repairs from £39

The 7 Plus is a genuinely old phone now, and we will treat you as an adult about that. It no longer receives current iOS versions, some apps have stopped supporting it, and it is worth relatively little. What it still does perfectly well is make calls, send messages, run a camera and act as a reliable second phone or a first phone for a child.

If that is what you want from yours, repairing it at £39 to £44 makes complete sense. If it needs three separate repairs at once, we will say so and let you decide rather than quoting for all of them.

The Home Button on a 7 Plus Is Not What You Think

This generation is genuinely different from everything before it, and almost nobody explains it properly.

The 7 Plus home button does not physically move. It is a force-sensitive pad that simulates a click using the Taptic Engine underneath, and it is cryptographically paired to the logic board. That has two consequences worth knowing.

First, Touch ID cannot be restored if the assembly is damaged. That is true of every Touch ID iPhone. Second, and specific to the 7 generation, a damaged home button on this model frequently stops working as a button at all, not just as a fingerprint reader. When that happens iOS offers an on-screen replacement through AssistiveTouch, which is a perfectly workable solution that costs nothing, and we will show you how to enable it rather than selling you a repair that cannot deliver what you want.

During a screen replacement the assembly has to be transferred from your original panel to the new one. Done carelessly it is destroyed permanently. We transfer it as standard.

Screen Replacement (£44)

An LCD panel, replaced as a complete assembly, and one of the cheapest screen repairs we do.

• Cracks spreading from the impact point
• Dead areas where touch no longer registers
• White or bright patches rather than black bleeding
• Backlight failure, leaving a faint image visible under a torch
• Ghost touches registering without any input

Battery Replacement (£39)

Nine years is a very long time for a lithium cell. Every original 7 Plus battery is now far beyond its service life, and this is the repair that determines whether the phone is usable at all.

• Maximum capacity far below 80 percent in Settings, Battery, Battery Health
• Lasting an hour or two on ordinary use
• Shutting down without warning, especially in cold weather
• Charge dropping in enormous steps, sometimes 40 percent at once
• The phone feeling extremely slow as well as short on charge

At £39 this is the only repair many 7 Plus owners actually need. iOS throttles the processor severely when battery health is this poor, so people conclude the phone has become unusably slow when the real problem is a nine year old battery. Rear Housing Repair (£39)

Worth clearing something up, because it causes confusion when people ring round for quotes. The 7 Plus does not have a glass back. It uses an aluminium unibody rear housing, which is why it does not support wireless charging. So there is no back glass to replace on this model.

What we do repair is damage to that aluminium housing, which behaves quite differently to broken glass:

• Dents and deep scuffs from drops onto hard surfaces
• Bending or warping, usually from pressure rather than impact
• A cracked camera lens cover set into the housing
• Damage around the port and speaker cut-outs

A bent housing matters more than it looks, because nothing else inside seats correctly against a warped frame. If yours has been sat on, that is worth having checked.

Charging Repair (£39)

Lightning port with nine years of use. The contacts wear out, so the cable still clicks in and feels secure while the connection has become unreliable. Charging that works when you press or angle the cable and stops when you release it is the classic sign.

On a phone this old, though, expect a socket thoroughly packed with compacted lint, and it is very frequently the entire problem. Cleaning it is not a chargeable repair here. Camera Repair (£39)

The 7 Plus was the first iPhone with a dual rear camera, and both lenses sit under cover glass set into the aluminium housing.

• Cracked lens cover with the modules beneath undamaged
• Blurry images across every shooting mode after a drop
• Rattling or grinding as optical stabilisation fails
• Camera app opening black or crashing on launch
• Telephoto dead while the main lens works normally

Water Damage and Unexplained Faults

The 7 generation was the first with any water resistance rating, but nine year old seals are not the seals it left the factory with, and we would not rely on them. Liquid damage is assessed rather than quoted blind, and on a handset of this value we will be direct about whether the repair is worth doing. Turnaround, Warranty and Booking

In-store repairs are usually completed within one to three hours on the same day and you are welcome to wait. Mail-in repairs are typically finished within eight to twelve hours of arriving and returned tracked, most customers seeing their phone in two to three working days. All eligible repairs carry a 12 month warranty on parts and labour, and that applies to a nine year old handset exactly as it does to a new one. New accidental damage, liquid damage and unrelated faults are excluded.
