iPhone 8 Repairs from £45

The iPhone 8 has had an unusually long second life. It became the phone people bought for children, kept as a backup, or handed to a relative who wanted something simple with a home button. A lot of them are still in use, and they come to us regularly for one or two straightforward repairs rather than anything dramatic.

At £48 for a screen and £45 for battery, back glass, camera or charging work, keeping one going is inexpensive. It is also the sensible thing to do with a phone that only needs to make calls, send messages and take the occasional photograph.

Home Button and Touch ID: The One Thing to Get Right

Touch ID on the iPhone 8 is cryptographically paired to the logic board at the factory. If the home button assembly is damaged, a replacement will function as a home button but fingerprint recognition cannot be restored. There is no workaround, and anyone offering to fit a working Touch ID from another handset is not being honest with you.

This matters most during screen replacement, because the home button assembly must be carefully transferred from your original screen to the new one. It is not supplied with the replacement panel. A careless screen repair destroys Touch ID permanently, and we see 8s arrive that way from other shops more often than we would like. We transfer it as standard, and if your button is already damaged in a way that risks it, we will tell you before we begin.

Screen Replacement (£48)

The 8 uses an LCD panel, which is why the replacement is one of the cheapest we offer on any iPhone. LCD fails differently to OLED and the symptoms are worth recognising.

• Cracks spreading from the impact point
• Dead areas where touch no longer registers
• White or bright patches rather than black bleeding
• Backlight failure, leaving a faint image visible under a torch
• Ghost touches registering without any input

That backlight symptom saves a lot of phones from being thrown away. If an 8 seems completely dead but you can just make out the home screen with a torch shone at it, the handset is fine and only the backlight has gone. Battery Replacement (£45)

If you are using an iPhone 8 on its original battery, this is almost certainly the repair you need. Eight years of charge cycles leaves very little capacity behind, and it is the single most common complaint we hear about this model.

• Maximum capacity well below 80 percent in Settings, Battery, Battery Health
• Lasting only a couple of hours on ordinary use
• Sudden shutdowns with charge still displayed, particularly in the cold
• Charge dropping in very large steps
• The phone feeling slow as well as short on charge

On phones this age the speed improvement is often the bigger surprise, because iOS throttles processor performance heavily when battery health is poor. Parents who bought an 8 for a child and concluded it was too slow to be useful are usually looking at a £45 problem rather than a hardware limitation. Back Glass Replacement (£45)

The iPhone 8 shares its awkward reputation with the 8 Plus. The rear glass is bonded to the frame with exceptionally strong adhesive and there is no practical way to separate it cleanly without a laser. Many shops refuse this repair outright on an 8, which is why you may have struggled to get a straight quote elsewhere.

• Loose fragments scratch the camera lens from behind
• The moisture seal fails as soon as the glass cracks
• Wireless charging becomes unreliable or stops entirely
• Sharp edges matter more on a phone handled by children

Charging Repair (£45)

Lightning port with eight years behind it. The contacts wear, so the cable still clicks in and feels secure while the connection has become unreliable. Charging that works when you press or angle the cable and stops when you let go is the classic sign.

Before that, expect a socket packed with years of compacted lint. On an 8 it is very often the entire problem and costs nothing like £45 to sort. We clean and test first. Camera Repair (£45)

A single rear lens keeps camera repairs on the iPhone 8 simple and cheap. There is no telephoto or ultra-wide to complicate the diagnosis.

• Cracked lens cover over an otherwise healthy module
• Blurry or soft images after a drop
• Camera app opening black or crashing on launch
• Focus hunting continuously without settling
• Rattling from a failed stabilisation assembly

Water Damage and Unexplained Faults

Liquid damage is assessed rather than quoted blind. In-store repairs are usually completed within one to three hours on the same day and you are welcome to wait. Mail-in repairs are typically finished within eight to twelve hours of arriving and returned tracked, most customers seeing their phone in two to three working days.
