The Galaxy Tab S8 Plus is the model most people should have bought in that generation, and it carries one characteristic that owners frequently get wrong: it has no water resistance rating at all. Samsung did not bring IP68 to its tablets until the S9 series a year later, so if you have been treating an S8 Plus as spill-proof, it is worth knowing sooner rather than later.

How much does a Galaxy Tab S8 Plus repair cost?

Our fixed prices at iExpert Repairs are:

  • Screen replacement – £389
  • Battery replacement – £65
  • Charging port repair – £89
  • Diagnostic service – £15

Each includes the part, the labour and a 12 month guarantee, with nothing added at the end.

No IP rating on the S8 series

This catches people out because the S9 range that followed is rated IP68 and can survive immersion in fresh water. The S8 Plus has no such rating and no sealing designed for liquid, which puts it in the same position as every iPad ever made.

If liquid does get in, switch it off immediately and do not connect a charger. Running power through a wet board is the single most common way a recoverable tablet becomes a dead one, and it is the mistake we see more than any other. Leave it off, get it to us quickly, and let a proper clean happen before corrosion establishes itself. Our water damage repair service covers exactly this, and where a board cannot be saved we can usually still attempt data recovery.

Why the Plus costs £389 when the standard S8 is £129

Panel technology, almost entirely. The base Tab S8 uses an LCD, while the S8 Plus uses Super AMOLED – a display that generates light at each individual pixel rather than relying on a backlight, producing the deep blacks and contrast the Plus is known for. It is a substantially more expensive component to manufacture, and it is a larger sheet as well.

Same generation, same year, same design language, and a £260 difference in what a cracked screen costs to put right. If you are ever comparing Galaxy Tab repair quotes, panel type is the thing you are actually comparing.

The green line problem AMOLED owners should know about

A vertical green or pink line appearing down the display is a well-documented AMOLED failure mode rather than damage you caused. It often arrives with no warning, sometimes shortly after a software update, and usually starts as a single faint line before others join it. There is no software fix – the panel itself has failed.

Check your Samsung warranty status before booking anything, because this may be covered. We would rather send you there than quote you £389 for something that could cost you nothing.

The S Pen and the layer beneath the glass

Samsung includes the S Pen with the S8 Plus, and it works by electromagnetic resonance – a dedicated digitiser layer behind the display powers and tracks the pen, which is why it never needs charging to write. That layer is separate from the capacitive touch layer your finger uses, and a screen replacement has to leave both working properly.

This is exactly where cheap repairs fail. The tablet responds perfectly to fingers, and then the S Pen skips, sits slightly offset from the nib, or loses pressure sensitivity towards the edges. On a panel this large there is a great deal of edge to get wrong. We test S Pen tracking, pressure response and corner accuracy before any S-series tablet leaves us.

Battery replacement at £65

For a tablet of this size and class, £65 is good value and it is the repair most S8 Pluses will eventually want. The cell is physically large and bonded across a wide area, so it must be eased out patiently rather than levered – force on a chassis this size risks creasing the panel. The tablet is charge-tested after reassembly rather than simply screwed back together.

Before booking, watch behaviour under load rather than at rest. A worn cell handles reading and streaming and then drops sharply during video calls, gaming, DeX sessions or long S Pen work. Sudden collapse when you actually use the device is the giveaway.

Charging faults on a large tablet

Change the USB-C cable, then change the mains adapter and check its wattage – an S8 Plus draws real power and a small phone charger will report as connected while adding almost nothing, which presents exactly like a broken port. Then look into the socket with a torch for compacted lint, which we clear at no charge. Our £89 charging port repair is the last answer rather than the first.

Your microSD card may already be your backup

The S8 Plus takes a microSD card, something no iPad offers. If your photographs and documents were saved to the card rather than internal storage, they are physically safe even if the tablet is not, and readable in any card reader immediately. It is the first thing worth checking when facing a device that will not switch on.

How long does a Galaxy Tab S8 Plus repair take?

Battery and charging work is usually completed the same day once the tablet is with us. Screen replacement takes longer because a large bonded AMOLED assembly is easy to stress during fitting and S Pen tracking needs testing afterwards. We confirm timing with the fixed quote and start only once you approve it.
