How we protect your data?
The Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra is the largest tablet we repair and, at £499 for a screen replacement, the most expensive. It is also the only tablet in our range with a notch cut into the display – a design decision borrowed from phones that surprises people the first time they see it, and one that has a genuine bearing on repairs.
How much does a Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra repair cost?
Our fixed prices at iExpert Repairs are:
- Screen replacement – £499
- Battery replacement – £89
- Charging port repair – £99
- Diagnostic service – £15
Each covers the part, the labour and a 12 month guarantee, with nothing added afterwards. The £15 diagnostic applies only to faults outside this list and includes a fixed quote before work begins.
The notch, and why it matters for a repair
Samsung put a notch in the top bezel of the Ultra to house the dual front cameras used for video calls in landscape. It is unusual on a tablet and it means the display panel is a more complex shape than a plain rectangle, with the cutout formed during manufacture rather than assembled afterwards.
For repairs that has two consequences. The panel is a lower-volume, more intricate part, which contributes to the £499 figure. And the camera module sitting in that cutout has to be transferred and re-seated precisely – a fraction out and you get a visible dark edge around the notch or a camera that no longer sits flush. It is exactly the kind of detail a rushed repair leaves behind and an owner notices every day afterwards.
Should you repair, claim or replace?
At this price the honest conversation is worth having. If you have Samsung Care+ or a gadget insurance policy, check the excess before booking anything with us – on a repair of this value a claim frequently works out cheaper, and we will tell you that rather than quietly taking the job. If the tablet is insured through an employer, that is usually the first call.
Where we make sense is when none of those apply, when the excess is close to our price, or when you want the device back in days rather than weeks with your original data and setup intact. On a machine somebody has configured around a specific workflow, that last point matters more than people expect.
The S Pen and the digitiser layer beneath the glass
Samsung includes the S Pen with the Ultra, and it works by electromagnetic resonance – a dedicated digitiser layer behind the display powers and tracks the pen, which is why it never needs charging to write. That layer is entirely separate from the capacitive touch layer your finger uses.
A screen replacement must leave both working. This is where cheap repairs fail, and on a panel this large the failure is more likely, not less: the tablet responds perfectly to fingers, and then the S Pen skips, sits offset from the nib, or loses pressure sensitivity a few centimetres in from the edge. Across a screen this size there is a great deal of edge to get wrong. We test S Pen tracking, pressure response and corner accuracy on every S-series tablet before it goes back.
Green lines on an AMOLED panel
A vertical green or pink line running down the display is a known AMOLED failure mode, not damage you caused. It typically appears without warning, sometimes after a software update, and usually begins as a single faint line before others follow. There is no software fix; the panel has failed.
Check your Samsung warranty status before doing anything else, because this may well be covered. We would rather point you there than quote you £499 for something that costs you nothing.
IP68 and its honest limits
The S9 Ultra carries an IP68 rating, which no iPad of any generation does. A spilled drink that would finish an Apple tablet often leaves this one entirely unharmed, and that is a real advantage.
It is not permanent, though. The rating is measured on new devices in laboratory conditions, and the adhesive seals degrade with age, heat and impact – a tablet that has been dropped has probably compromised its seal even if nothing looks wrong. Salt water, pool chlorine and shower steam all sit outside what it covers. And once a device has been opened the factory seal is gone: we refit water-resistant adhesive during any repair requiring the case to come apart, but nobody, Samsung included, can honestly recertify a used tablet to its original standard.
Battery and charging on a very large tablet
The £89 battery here deals with a physically substantial cell bonded across a wide area, and easing that out without stressing a chassis this size takes patience rather than force. The water-resistant adhesive is renewed on reassembly and the tablet is charge-tested rather than simply screwed back together.
For charging problems, the free checks come first every time. Change the USB-C cable, change the mains adapter and check its wattage – an Ultra draws serious power and a small phone charger will report as connected while adding almost nothing. Then check the socket with a torch for compacted lint, which we clear at no charge. Our £99 charging port repair is the last conclusion, not the first.
Check your microSD card first
The Ultra takes a microSD card, which no iPad does. If your files were saved to the card rather than internal storage they are physically safe even if the tablet is not, and readable in any card reader immediately. It is the first thing worth checking when facing a device that will not switch on. For files on internal storage, our data recovery service can often still retrieve them.
How long does a Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra repair take?
Battery and charging work is usually completed the same day once the tablet is with us. Screen replacement is deliberately unhurried – a panel this large and this expensive does not forgive a rushed reassembly, and the notch camera module, S Pen tracking and touch response all need checking afterwards. We give you a realistic timescale with the fixed quote.
