Why Big iPhones Break Differently

The iPhone 16 Pro Max is heavy, and weight changes what happens when it hits the floor. A larger handset carries more momentum into the impact point, flexes more across its length, and is harder to catch when it slips. It is not that Pro Max owners are clumsier. It is that the same drop that leaves a smaller phone scuffed will crack a Pro Max panel.

That also makes it the most expensive iPhone in the range to repair, because the panel it needs is the largest and priciest Apple produces. We are not going to pretend otherwise. What we will do is tell you exactly what each job costs, carry it out ourselves at our Essex repair centre, and stand behind it for twelve months.

iPhone 16 Pro Max Screen Replacement (£299)

The display is a large high refresh rate OLED bonded beneath Ceramic Shield glass, supplied and fitted as a single assembly. The glass cannot be separated from the panel and replaced on its own, so anyone advertising a cheap glass-only fix on this model is either fitting a refurbished part or performing a reglaze that will not last.

• Cracks radiating from a corner or edge impact
• Unresponsive regions where touch no longer registers
• Vertical green or pink lines following a drop
• Dark ink-like patches spreading across the panel
• Ghost touch, where inputs happen without you

Worth checking before you commit: a phone that rings and vibrates but shows nothing on screen has often just lost a display connector, which is far cheaper to put right than a full panel. iPhone 16 Pro Max Battery Replacement (£99)

The Pro Max holds the biggest battery Apple fits to an iPhone, which is why owners are often surprised when it starts falling short. Capacity fades with charge cycles regardless of how large the cell is, and a big battery driving a big high refresh display gets worked hard.

• Maximum capacity below 80 percent under Settings, Battery, Battery Health
• Sudden shutdowns with charge apparently remaining
• Percentage falling in jumps rather than steadily
• Warmth during light tasks like messaging
• Charging taking noticeably longer than it once did

iPhone 16 Pro Max Back Glass Replacement (£109)

Rear glass is the repair most shops turn down, and the Pro Max is the hardest version of it. The panel is the largest in the range and structurally bonded to the frame, so it needs laser separation rather than heat and prying. Get it wrong and the casualties are the wireless charging coil, the MagSafe magnet array, or the camera housing seal.

Leaving it cracked costs more than fixing it:

• Fragments migrate and scratch the camera lenses from the inside
• The moisture seal is already broken, so rain is a genuine risk
• MagSafe and wireless charging turn intermittent
• Trade-in valuations fall sharply for rear glass damage

iPhone 16 Pro Max Charging Repair (£89)

A Pro Max that will not charge frequently needs cleaning rather than repairing. Lint compacts at the bottom of the USB-C socket and prevents the cable seating fully, and we see it constantly. If that is your problem, we will say so instead of selling you a port.

Genuine failure presents as charging that works only at a certain angle, drops out when the handset moves, a loose-feeling connector, or charging that works while data transfer does not. iPhone 16 Pro Max Camera Repair (£99)

The camera array is the main reason people pay Pro Max money, and it protrudes further than the rest of the body, which means it takes the impact when the phone lands face up. That is why lens cover damage is so common on this model.

• Cracked outer lens glass with the module underneath fine
• Blurred images across all modes after a drop
• Rattling or grinding as optical stabilisation fails
• Camera app opening to black or crashing
• Telephoto or ultra-wide dead while the main lens works

A lens cover is much cheaper than a module and we always establish which you need. The 16 series also carries a dedicated Camera Control on the side of the handset, and faults with that are a separate job again. Water Damage and Faults Without an Obvious Cause

Liquid damage is the one thing we will not quote blind. Corrosion spreads at its own pace and a handset that powers on today can fail next week. We assess it, clean the board properly, and give you an honest view on whether the repair makes financial sense. Everything else unclear gets a £15 diagnostic, taken off the repair if you proceed. Random restarts, lost signal, distorted audio and mystery battery drain all fall here. Phone keeps restarting and phone overheating are useful places to start.

Timescales, Warranty and Booking

In-store repairs are generally completed within one to three hours on the same day, and you are welcome to wait. Mail-in repairs are usually done within eight to twelve hours of reaching the workshop and sent back tracked, with most customers receiving the phone in two to three working days. Send-back postage is free, and Klarna is offered at checkout.

Eligible repairs include a 12 month warranty on parts and labour. Anything failing that relates to our work is put right at no charge. Fresh accidental damage, liquid damage and unrelated pre-existing faults are not covered, and third party work afterwards voids the warranty.
