The Galaxy Tab A7 is the model that quietly became Britain’s default cheap tablet, and a great many are still going. At £79 for a screen replacement it is among the least expensive tablets we repair – but there is one thing to sort out before you get a quote anywhere, because the A7 and the A7 Lite are different devices.

How much does a Galaxy Tab A7 repair cost?

Our fixed prices at iExpert Repairs are:

  • Screen replacement – £79
  • Battery replacement – £59
  • Charging port repair – £59
  • Diagnostic service – £15

Each covers the part, the labour and a 12 month guarantee, with no assessment fee added afterwards.

A7 or A7 Lite? They are not the same tablet

The A7 Lite is noticeably smaller than the standard A7, and despite the near-identical names they take entirely different display assemblies. A quote given for one is meaningless for the other, and a panel ordered against the wrong name will not fit.

Open Settings, then About tablet, and read the model number. It takes seconds and it is definitive. Quote it when you contact us and we can confirm the right part and the right price on the first conversation rather than the second. Alongside the A9 and A9+, this is the most common source of wrong quotes across Samsung’s budget tablet line.

The A7 does not support an S Pen

People buy one expecting it to, and it does not. The S Pen relies on electromagnetic resonance, which requires a dedicated digitiser layer built into the display during manufacture. Samsung fits that layer to its S-series tablets and not to the A-series.

An S Pen bought for a Tab A7 will not work, and no repair can make it work, because the hardware is not there to activate. If pressure-sensitive stylus input is what you want on a budget, the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite is the cheapest Samsung tablet that genuinely has it. We would rather explain that than take a booking to investigate a fault that does not exist.

Is a £79 screen worth it on a tablet this cheap?

On one that otherwise works, generally yes. It is well below what a replacement costs, and you keep your apps, accounts and downloads untouched. On a device used by a child or an older relative, that continuity is often worth more than the hardware.

Where it stops adding up is two repairs together, because a screen and a battery at once comes close to what the tablet is worth. We will tell you when you are at that point rather than quoting for both and hoping you do not run the numbers.

The torch test worth doing first

If the A7 appears dead but still makes sounds, vibrates, or shows up when plugged into a computer, take it somewhere dark and shine a torch at the screen at an angle. If you can faintly see the home screen, the backlight has failed rather than the tablet. Everything on it is intact and recoverable, and it is a screen repair rather than a dead device.

On budget tablets this check genuinely decides whether a device gets used or binned, and it costs nothing.

Battery replacement at £59

Among the cheapest tablet batteries we replace. The cell is bonded in with adhesive that must be eased out slowly rather than levered, and the tablet is charge-tested after reassembly rather than simply reassembled. These are now several years into service, so batteries are the most common reason they arrive with us.

Check the battery is genuinely at fault first. A worn cell copes with reading and streaming and then drops sharply during video calls or games. If the tablet is simply slow, look at how full the storage is – the A7 shipped with modest capacity, fills up fast, and a nearly full device crawls regardless of battery health. Clearing space costs nothing and resolves that complaint more often than any repair would.

Charging faults: cable, adapter, then lint

Change the USB-C cable first, because after several years most original cables have failed internally at the strain relief. Then change the mains adapter. Then look into the socket with a torch for compacted lint, which is very common on a tablet that has spent years being carried about, and which we clear at no charge. Only after all three is our £59 charging port repair the right answer.

No water resistance

The Tab A7 carries no IP rating and has no sealing designed for liquid. If liquid gets in, switch it off immediately and do not connect a charger – running power through a wet board is the most common way a recoverable tablet becomes a dead one, and it is the mistake we see more than any other. Our water damage repair service covers this, and where a board cannot be saved we can often still attempt data recovery.

Check the microSD card before writing it off

The Tab A7 takes a microSD card, which no iPad does. Anything saved to the card rather than internal storage is physically safe even if the tablet is not, and readable in any card reader straight away. On a budget tablet that is frequently the difference between losing years of photographs and losing nothing at all.

Where can I get a Galaxy Tab A7 repaired?

iExpert Repairs handles Galaxy Tab A7 repairs from our Essex workshop and accepts devices from anywhere in the UK by tracked, insured post. contact us to arrange it, or to confirm whether you have an A7 or an A7 Lite before committing to anything.

We cover Samsung tablet repair across the whole Galaxy Tab range, plus Samsung screen repair, Samsung battery replacement, Samsung charging repair and water damage repair. See tablet repair for other brands and Samsung repairs for every Samsung device we handle.

What our 12 month guarantee covers

Every repair we carry out on a Galaxy Tab A7 is guaranteed for 12 months on both the part and the workmanship, and that is exactly the same cover we give a tablet costing five times as much. If a replacement screen develops dead touch areas, or a new battery will not hold charge in normal use, it comes back to us and we put it right at no cost to you. A fresh drop is a new accident rather than a failed repair, and we would rather state that plainly than bury it in small print.

The parts on a budget tablet cost less because the components cost less, not because the workmanship or the guarantee is any different. We do not run a lower tier of service for cheaper devices, and we would not want to.
