A display assembly ordered against the wrong generation either does not fit or does not behave properly once fitted, and the delay while the right part is sourced is entirely avoidable. If you bought the iPad second-hand and the listing said M3, verify it yourself rather than trusting it.

Touch ID lives in the power button

As on every modern iPad Air, the fingerprint sensor sits inside the top button rather than on the display, and that button is cryptographically paired to your logic board. The reason is anti-theft: it stops somebody unlocking a stolen iPad by fitting a fresh button. The consequence for repairs is that a destroyed button cannot be replaced with a working Touch ID – a new one will power the device on and off, but fingerprint unlock is permanently gone.
