How we protect your data?
The 13-inch iPad Pro with the M5 chip is the most expensive device on our entire repair list, and we would rather explain why up front than let the number land as a surprise. At £699 for a screen replacement, this is the one repair where the honest conversation about insurance, AppleCare+ and replacement value genuinely matters. Everything below is written to help you make that decision properly, not to push you towards a booking.
How much does an iPad Pro 13-inch (M5, 2025) repair cost?
Our prices for this model at iExpert Repairs are:
- Screen replacement – £699
- Battery replacement – £139
- Charging port repair – £119
- Diagnostic service – £15
Those are the full prices including parts, labour and a 12 month guarantee. There is no separate assessment fee bolted on afterwards. If your fault is not on this list, the £15 diagnostic covers a proper look and a fixed quote before any work begins.
Why does the M5 iPad Pro screen cost £699?
Because it is not a conventional display. Apple builds this panel using tandem OLED, which means two complete OLED layers stacked on top of each other and driven together. One OLED panel bright enough to hit the peaks Apple wanted would burn through its own lifespan; two sharing the load run cooler, last longer and reach brightness levels a single layer cannot. It is genuinely clever engineering, and it is also the single most expensive component in any device we handle. The panel itself accounts for the overwhelming majority of that £699 – our labour on it is a small fraction of the total.
It is worth knowing this because it explains something customers often find suspicious: why an iPad screen can cost more than a flagship phone. It is not a markup. A tandem OLED assembly for a 13-inch device is simply an expensive object.
Should you repair, claim, or replace?
At this price, three routes are legitimately in play, and only one of them involves us.
If you have AppleCare+, your accidental damage excess will almost certainly be lower than £699, and you should use it. We will tell you that rather than quietly taking the job. If you have a home contents or gadget policy, check the excess and check whether a claim affects your no-claims position, because on a device this expensive it often still works out worthwhile. And if the iPad is insured through your employer or a school, that is usually the first call to make.
Where we make sense is when none of those apply, or when the excess is close to our price, or when you want the device back in days rather than weeks. Our repair keeps your original device and your original data, which matters more than people expect on a machine that has been set up around a specific workflow.
Check the frame before you order a screen
This generation of iPad Pro is extraordinarily thin, and that has a practical consequence after a drop. If the aluminium chassis has taken a bend – even a slight one you can only see by resting the iPad face-down on a flat table and watching for a rock – a new panel will not seat flat against it. Fitting one anyway produces a display that lifts at a corner, flexes when you press it, and fails again within weeks.
We check for this before ordering anything, and it is the reason we would rather see the device or clear photographs first than quote blind over the phone. If the frame is bent, you need to know that before you commit £699, not after.
Does a screen replacement affect Face ID or the Apple Pencil Pro?
Face ID survives. On iPad the TrueDepth camera array sits in the landscape edge as a separate module rather than being bonded into the display, so it is carefully transferred to the new panel and continues to work normally. This is a real difference from iPhone, where screen work is far more entangled with Face ID.
Apple Pencil Pro is the part that demands more attention. Squeeze, barrel roll and hover all depend on the digitiser layer beneath the glass reading the Pencil accurately across the full surface. A correctly fitted assembly preserves all of it. We test Pencil tracking to the edges of the panel before the device goes back to you, because a screen that passes a casual tap test can still have dead zones that only a Pencil user would ever find.
Battery and charging on the M5 iPad Pro
The £139 battery replacement is higher than on smaller iPads for two reasons: the cell is physically much larger, and it is bonded into a chassis with very little margin for error. Rushing it is how a technician punctures a cell. Ours are done slowly, with the correct adhesive removal, and the device is charge-tested afterwards rather than simply reassembled.
Before booking a £119 charging port repair, try a different USB-C cable and a different mains adapter. This port is Thunderbolt-capable and the connector is more robust than Lightning ever was, so a genuine port failure is less common than a failing cable. Compacted pocket lint is also a frequent culprit, and clearing that is not a chargeable job here.
How long does an iPad Pro 13-inch M5 repair take?
Battery and charging work is usually completed the same day once the device is with us. Screen replacement on this model is deliberately not a rushed job – the panel is fragile, expensive and bonded, and we would rather take the time than risk a £699 part. We give you a realistic completion time when we confirm the quote, and we do not start until you have approved the price.
Where can I get an iPad Pro 13-inch M5 repaired?
iExpert Repairs handles iPad Pro M5 repairs from our Essex workshop and takes bookings from across the UK through our tracked mail-in service, so you do not need to be local to use us. Send it in, we diagnose it, we quote you a fixed price, and nothing happens until you say yes. You can contact us to arrange a collection or ask a question before committing to anything.
We also handle iPad screen repair, iPad battery replacement, iPad charging port repair and iPad water damage repair across the whole iPad range, and if the device is beyond economic repair we can still attempt data recovery to get your files back. For other tablets, see our general tablet repair and iPad repair pages.
iPad Pro 13-inch M5 Repairs: Your Questions Answered
Is a £699 iPad screen repair ever worth it?
It depends entirely on your alternatives. If AppleCare+ or a gadget policy would cost you less, use that instead and we will say so. If a replacement 13-inch M5 iPad Pro would cost you well over £1,000, then £699 to keep your existing device and data is straightforward arithmetic. What we will not do is take the booking without walking you through those options first.
Why is an iPad screen more expensive than a flagship phone?
Because the M5 iPad Pro uses a tandem OLED panel, which is two complete OLED layers stacked and driven together to reach higher brightness without burning out. A 13-inch assembly built that way is simply an expensive component. The part accounts for the vast majority of the £699, with our labour a small fraction of it.
Will Face ID still work after a screen replacement?
Yes. On iPad the TrueDepth array sits in the landscape edge as a separate module rather than bonded into the display, so it transfers to the new panel and keeps working. This is a genuine difference from iPhone, where screen work is far more entangled with Face ID.
Will my Apple Pencil Pro still work properly afterwards?
It will, and we test for it specifically. Squeeze, barrel roll and hover all rely on the digitiser reading the Pencil across the entire surface, so we check tracking right to the panel edges before returning the device. A screen that passes a casual finger tap can still have dead zones only a Pencil user would notice.
What if my iPad Pro is bent as well as cracked?
Then the frame has to be addressed before any panel is ordered. This generation is exceptionally thin, and a new screen will not seat flat against a bent chassis. Fitting one anyway gives you a display that lifts at a corner and fails within weeks. We check for this first, which is why we prefer to see the device or clear photos before quoting.
Can I send an iPad Pro M5 in from outside Essex?
Yes. Our tracked mail-in service covers the whole UK and is used by customers nowhere near Essex. It is fully insured in transit, which matters on a device at this value. We diagnose, quote a fixed price, and no work starts until you approve it.
