How we protect your data?

The Galaxy Tab S6 was a genuinely inventive tablet. It was the first with a fingerprint sensor built into the display, and the first where the S Pen attached magnetically to the back of the device rather than living in a silo. Both of those decisions have a direct bearing on what a repair involves today.

How much does a Galaxy Tab S6 repair cost?

Our fixed prices at iExpert Repairs are:

  • Screen replacement – £279
  • Battery replacement – £65
  • Charging port repair – £59
  • Diagnostic service – £15

Each includes the part, the labour and a 12 month guarantee, with nothing added at the end. The £15 diagnostic applies only to faults outside this list and includes a fixed quote first.

The in-display fingerprint sensor

The Tab S6 read your fingerprint through the screen itself, using a sensor mounted behind the panel – a first for any tablet. It works well and it introduces a step in the repair that is easy for a hurried workshop to skip.

Because the sensor sits beneath the display, a replacement panel has to be seated correctly against it and fingerprint enrolment tested afterwards. A tablet can come back with a flawless screen and a fingerprint reader that no longer recognises anything, and the owner discovers it the next time they pick it up rather than in the shop. We test enrolment and unlock before any S6 goes back, and if you are getting a quote elsewhere it is a fair thing to ask about.

The magnetic S Pen, and a free thing to check

Samsung moved the S Pen onto a magnetic strip on the rear of the S6, where it attaches and charges its Bluetooth functions. If your S Pen has stopped holding on the back, or stopped charging, check that strip and the corresponding area of any case for debris before assuming a fault – a build-up along it is a common and free fix.

The writing itself does not depend on that charge. The S Pen uses electromagnetic resonance, meaning a dedicated digitiser layer behind the display powers and tracks the pen for writing regardless of its battery state. Only the extra Bluetooth gestures need charge. That distinction confuses a lot of owners: a flat S Pen that still writes perfectly is behaving exactly as designed.

Why an AMOLED screen costs £279

The Tab S6 uses Super AMOLED, which lights each pixel individually rather than relying on a backlight. It produces the deep blacks and contrast the S-series is known for and it costs considerably more to manufacture than the LCD panels fitted to Samsung’s Lite and FE models – which is why a Tab S6 Lite screen is £99 and this one is £279.

Worth knowing if you have been comparing quotes. The S6 and the S6 Lite are different tablets with different panels despite the similar names, and a price for one tells you nothing reliable about the other.

Green lines on AMOLED

A vertical green or pink line down the display is a known AMOLED failure rather than damage you caused. It usually appears without warning, sometimes after a software update, and starts as one faint line before others follow. No software fix exists – the panel has failed and needs replacing.

Battery replacement at £65

The cell is bonded in with adhesive that must be eased out slowly rather than levered, and the tablet is charge-tested after reassembly rather than simply screwed back together. On a device that remains genuinely capable, £65 is easy arithmetic when the battery is the real problem.

Confirm that it is. A worn cell handles reading and streaming perfectly well and then drops sharply during video calls, gaming, DeX use or a long S Pen session. Sudden collapse under load is the signature. If the tablet merely feels slow, check available storage first, because a nearly full device behaves sluggishly whatever the battery is doing.

No water resistance on the S6

Samsung did not bring IP ratings to its tablets until the S9 range, so the Tab S6 has no water resistance and no sealing designed for liquid – the same position as any iPad. If liquid gets in, switch it off immediately and do not connect a charger. Power through a wet board is the most common way a recoverable tablet becomes a dead one. Our water damage repair service covers this, and where a board cannot be saved we can often still attempt data recovery.

Charging faults: the free checks

Change the USB-C cable, then the mains adapter, and check its wattage, because a tablet this size will report as connected to a small phone charger while gaining almost nothing. Then look into the socket with a torch for compacted lint, which we clear at no charge. Only after all three is our £59 charging port repair the right answer.

Check your microSD card first

The Tab S6 takes a microSD card, which no iPad does. Files saved to the card rather than internal storage are physically safe even if the tablet is not, and readable in any card reader immediately. It is the first thing worth checking when facing a device that will not switch on.

How long does a Galaxy Tab S6 repair take?

Battery and charging work is usually same-day once the tablet is with us. Screen replacement takes longer because the bonded AMOLED assembly must come out cleanly and the fingerprint sensor, S Pen tracking and touch response all need testing afterwards. We confirm timing with the fixed quote.
