The A35 is the value pick of the current A-series. It sits just below the A55 and gives up surprisingly little, which is why so many people buy one instead. Screen £75, and rear panel, camera, battery and charging all £55.

Its repair pricing is a small illustration of the same point: an A35 screen is £75 against £79 for the A55. Almost the same phone to fix, noticeably less to buy.

A Super AMOLED panel bonded beneath toughened glass, replaced as a complete assembly. Samsung does not skimp on displays even at this end of the range, and the A35 panel is genuinely good, which is the main argument for repairing rather than replacing with a cheaper handset.

The reader sits under the display, so a cracked panel frequently takes fingerprint recognition with it even where touch still works. If both failed at the same moment, that is why, and a single repair resolves both. The vertical line is a different thing entirely, a known Galaxy AMOLED hardware failure that appears with no drop and no water, often just after a software update, and no patch has ever cleared one. The A35 carries a large battery for its class, and that shapes the complaint pattern. Owners get used to genuinely good endurance and notice the decline sharply when it arrives.

• Capacity noticeably below where it started, under Settings then Battery and device care
• Endurance feeling ordinary rather than good
• Sudden shutdowns with charge still displayed
• Charge dropping in steps rather than smoothly
• Slower charging than the phone managed when new

That last symptom is worth knowing. As a cell ages the phone deliberately reduces charging speed to protect it, so a handset suddenly taking far longer to charge is often reporting a battery problem rather than a cable or plug one. Most A-series handsets brought to us as charging faults need the USB-C socket cleaning rather than replacing. Compacted lint stops the cable seating fully and clearing it is not a chargeable repair here.

Genuine port failure means charging that works only at one angle, cuts out when the phone is moved, a connector that feels loose, or charging that works while data transfer refuses. A35 or A55? What It Means at Repair Time

People often ask us which they have, and it matters when parts are ordered. The two look similar and share a lot, but the panels and frames are not interchangeable.

Check under Settings, then About phone, before ringing round for quotes. An A35 screen is £75 and an A55 is £79, which is a small difference, but fitting the wrong part is not a small problem. If you are unsure, bring the phone in and we will identify it in seconds.

Water Damage and Unclear Faults

The A35 carries a water resistance rating, but that describes the phone factory-fresh and undamaged. After a drop or a cracked rear panel the seal is compromised, and ratings cover fresh water rather than sea water, which is worth remembering near the coast.
