Galaxy Z Fold 3 Repairs, Inner Display Included

The Fold 3 was the generation that made folding phones credible. It was the first Fold with a water resistance rating, the first to support the S Pen, and the first with a camera hidden under the inner display. All three of those are relevant when something goes wrong, and the last one in particular catches people out.

Prices have settled well: inner folding display £339, outer cover screen £139, battery £59, charging £55. We handle all of it in-house at our Essex repair centre.

Galaxy Z Fold 3 Inner Screen Replacement (£339)

The inner display has no toughened glass over it, because toughened glass will not fold. A soft polymer layer protects it, and on a phone this age that layer has had years to accumulate wear.

• A vertical line at or near the crease, usually spreading over days
• A dead or flickering band down one half of the panel
• Black bleeding or ink-like patches after pressure on the screen
• Touch working on one half of the display but not the other
• A visible dent, puncture or bubble beneath the surface

Worth knowing about the under-display camera on this model. The area of screen above the selfie camera has a different pixel arrangement to the rest of the panel, so it looks slightly hazier or grainier than its surroundings. That is how it was built, not a fault developing, and it is not a reason to replace a display.

The factory screen protector is part of the display assembly. On Fold 3s the protector often starts lifting with age, and pulling it off destroys the panel underneath. Leave it and bring the phone in. The crease is normal too. See our Samsung screen repair page for the range.

S Pen Damage: Fold Edition Only

The Fold 3 was the first Fold to support the S Pen, but only the Fold Edition stylus with its retractable soft tip. A standard S Pen from a Note or an S Ultra has a harder tip designed for toughened glass, and used on a folding display it gouges straight through the polymer layer.

We have replaced a number of Fold 3 inner screens damaged exactly this way. It counts as accidental damage, so no warranty covers it. If you are using a stylus that did not come with the phone, stop.

Galaxy Z Fold 3 Outer Screen Replacement (£139)

Conventional glass bonded to an OLED panel, replaced as one assembly. The Fold 3 cover screen is narrow, so it is used one-handed constantly, and one-handed use is how phones meet pavements.

• Cracks radiating from a corner or edge impact
• Dead areas where touch stops registering
• Coloured lines running down the panel
• Black patches spreading over several days
• Ghost touches occurring unprompted

Fix it promptly so fragments do not migrate into the hinge. If it is failing with no impact behind it, read phone screen flickering.

Hinge Debris on an Ageing Fold

Most destroyed inner displays we see were never dropped. Sand, crumbs, grit and pocket dust get into the hinge, and closing the phone presses that debris into the back of the panel. One hard particle punctures it. On a Fold 3, which has had years to collect debris, this is the single most likely way the screen will fail.

• Never close the phone on anything, however small
• Keep it out of pockets holding keys or coins
• Take care on beaches, and coastal areas are worst for it
• If the hinge feels gritty or crunchy, stop folding it and bring it in
• Avoid folding in freezing weather

A hinge clean costs a fraction of a £339 display. If yours no longer closes flush, has developed a gap, or feels rough, have it checked now.

Galaxy Z Fold 3 Battery Replacement (£59)

Two separate cells, one in each half, reached through a full strip down. On a handset of this age this is usually the repair that makes the biggest difference to daily use.

• Capacity dropping noticeably in Settings, Battery and device care
• Sudden shutdowns with charge still showing
• Charge falling in steps rather than smoothly
• The handset warm during light use
• One half of the phone noticeably hotter than the other

Galaxy Z Fold 3 Charging Repair (£55)

On a phone this age expect years of compacted lint in the USB-C socket, which is frequently the whole problem rather than a failed port. We clean and test before quoting.

Genuine failure means charging at one angle only, cutting out when the phone moves, or a loose connector. Try another cable and plug, then read why a phone will not charge. See Samsung charging repair for the work.

Back Glass (£59) and Camera Repair (£69)

Rear glass is bonded and laser separated, worth fixing quickly so fragments stay out of the hinge. Our cracked back glass guide explains why home kits fail.

Camera repairs split between cracked lens covers and failed modules. Blurred images, rattling from failed stabilisation, a black or crashing camera app, or one lens dead are the usual signs. Where nothing was dropped, phone camera not working covers software causes.

Water Damage

The Fold 3 was the first folding phone with a water resistance rating, which was a real achievement. But a hinge cannot be sealed like a solid chassis, water resistance is not dust resistance, and on a phone this old the seals are long past their best. Treat it as unsealed.
