Galaxy Z Fold 4 Repairs, Inner Display Included

The Fold 4 was the generation where Samsung stopped apologising for folding phones. Lighter than the Fold 3, better hinge, wider cover screen, and enough of them sold that we see these constantly. Parts have now settled to sensible prices: the inner folding display is £349 and the outer cover screen is £149.

We replace both in-house at our Essex repair centre. The inner panel is the one most shops will not attempt.

Galaxy Z Fold 4 Inner Screen Replacement (£349)

The inner display has no toughened glass over it, because toughened glass will not fold. A soft polymer layer protects it instead, and it can be marked by a fingernail.

• A vertical line at or near the crease, usually spreading over days
• A dead or flickering band down one half of the panel
• Black bleeding or ink-like patches after pressure on the screen
• Touch working on one half of the display but not the other
• A visible dent, puncture or bubble beneath the surface

The factory screen protector is part of the display assembly, not an accessory. Peeling it off is one of the most common ways Fold owners destroy their own screen, so if yours is lifting at the edges, leave it and bring the phone in. Galaxy Z Fold 4 Outer Screen Replacement (£149)

Conventional glass bonded to an OLED panel, replaced as one assembly. The Fold 4 widened this display over the Fold 3, which made it genuinely usable one-handed, and one-handed use is how phones end up on pavements.

• Cracks radiating from a corner or edge impact
• Dead areas where touch stops registering
• Coloured lines running down the panel
• Black patches spreading over several days
• Ghost touches occurring unprompted

Fix it promptly, because loose fragments migrate into the hinge. If the display is failing with no impact behind it, read phone screen flickering.

S Pen Damage: A Fold-Specific Warning

The Fold 4 supports the S Pen, but only the Fold Edition stylus, and this catches people out expensively. A standard S Pen from a Note or an S Ultra has a harder tip that is designed for toughened glass. Used on a folding display it will gouge straight through the polymer layer.

If you have been using a stylus that did not come with the phone or was not sold specifically for Fold models, stop. We have replaced a good number of inner screens damaged exactly this way, and it is not covered by any warranty because it counts as accidental damage.

Hinge Debris: How Most Fold Screens Die

Most destroyed inner displays we see were never dropped. Sand, crumbs, grit and pocket dust get into the hinge, and when the phone closes that debris is pressed into the back of the inner panel. One hard particle punctures it, and the damage looks like impact even though nothing hit the floor.

• Never close the phone on anything, however small
• Keep it out of pockets holding keys or coins
• Take care on beaches, and coastal areas are worst for it
• If the hinge feels gritty or crunchy, stop folding it and bring it in
• Avoid folding in freezing weather

A hinge clean costs a fraction of a £349 display. If yours no longer closes flush or feels rough through its travel, have it checked now.

Galaxy Z Fold 4 Battery Replacement (£65)

Two separate cells, one in each half, reached through a full strip down. On a handset now several years old this is usually the repair that makes the biggest difference.

• Capacity dropping noticeably in Settings, Battery and device care
• Sudden shutdowns with charge still showing
• Charge falling in steps rather than smoothly
• The handset warm during light use
• One half of the phone noticeably hotter than the other

Galaxy Z Fold 4 Charging Repair (£55)

Most Folds brought in for charging faults need the USB-C socket cleaning rather than replacing. We check that before quoting anything.

Genuine failure means charging at one angle only, cutting out when the phone moves, a loose connector, or charging that works while data transfer does not. Try another cable and plug, then read why a phone will not charge. See Samsung charging repair for the job.

Back Glass (£69) and Camera Repair (£69)

Rear glass is bonded and laser separated, worth fixing quickly so fragments stay out of the hinge. Our cracked back glass guide explains the process.

Camera repairs split between cracked lens covers and failed modules. Blurred images, rattling from failed stabilisation, a black or crashing camera app, or one lens dead while others work are the usual signs. Where nothing was dropped, phone camera not working covers software causes.

Water Damage

The Fold 4 carries a water resistance rating, but a hinge cannot be sealed like a solid chassis, and water resistance is not dust resistance. On a phone several years old, treat both as degraded.

Conventional repairs are usually completed the same day, within one to three hours in store. Inner display and hinge work takes longer because the phone is stripped and rebuilt. Mail-in repairs return by tracked delivery with free send-back postage, and Klarna is available at checkout.

Every eligible repair carries a 12 month warranty on parts and labour. Faults relating to our work are put right at no cost. New accidental damage, liquid damage and unrelated faults are excluded.
