Is an iPhone 17 Worth Repairing, or Should You Upgrade?

It is the first question most people actually want answered, so we will deal with it before the price list. An iPhone 17 is a current handset with years of software support ahead of it. A screen replacement costs a fraction of a replacement phone, and none of the repairs below come close to what a new one would set you back. In almost every case, repairing is the sensible call.

The exception is a handset with several unrelated faults at once, or one with liquid damage severe enough that the board needs extensive work. We will say so plainly if that is where yours has ended up. We have no interest in taking money for a repair that will not last, and we would rather lose the job than hand you back something that fails in a month.

Everything below is what we charge at our Essex repair centre, where the repairs are carried out in-house rather than subcontracted.

Cracked or Faulty Screen (£199)

Screen damage is comfortably the most common reason an iPhone 17 arrives with us. The display is an OLED panel bonded to Ceramic Shield glass as a single assembly, so a crack in the glass means the panel goes too. Glass-only reglazing exists, but it does not hold up on bonded OLED, and we do not offer it for that reason.

• Cracks spreading from an impact point, usually a corner
• Areas of the screen that no longer register touch
• Green or pink vertical lines after a drop
• Spreading black patches where the panel is bleeding
• Phantom touches the phone registers on its own

Battery Replacement (£95)

Every iPhone battery loses capacity over time. If your 17 is a year or two into its life and no longer sees you through a full day, that is expected rather than faulty. Settings, then Battery, then Battery Health and Charging will tell you where yours stands.

• Maximum capacity under 80 percent
• Sudden shutdowns with charge still on the meter
• Percentage falling in jumps rather than smoothly
• Warmth during light use like messaging or browsing
• Charging noticeably slower than it used to

Back Glass Replacement (£89)

The rear panel is bonded to the chassis with structural adhesive and needs laser separation to remove cleanly. Done with heat and brute force, the wireless charging coil and MagSafe magnets underneath usually do not survive. We have the equipment to do it properly, which is why we quote a fixed price where others hedge.

It is worth fixing sooner rather than later. Loose glass scratches the camera lenses from the inside, the moisture seal is already broken, and wireless charging becomes unreliable. Charging Problems (£95)

Before you pay for a port, let us check whether you need one. Pocket lint compacts into the bottom of a USB-C socket and stops the cable seating, and that accounts for a good share of the not-charging phones we see. It is a quick clean, not a repair.

Genuine failure shows up as charging that only works at one angle, cuts out when the phone moves, or a connector that feels loose. Camera Faults (£99)

Camera repairs divide into lens cover replacement and full module replacement, and the difference in cost is significant. We check which you need rather than defaulting to the more expensive option.

• Blurry results in every mode after a drop
• Rattling or buzzing from failed stabilisation
• Cracked outer lens glass over a healthy module
• Black screen or crashes when the Camera app opens
• One lens functioning while the other does not

Water Damage and Unclear Faults

Liquid damage cannot be honestly quoted before we open the phone. Corrosion behaves unpredictably and a handset that seems fine today can fail next week. We assess, clean the board, and give you a straight answer on whether it is worth continuing. Anything without an obvious cause gets a £15 diagnostic, deducted from the repair if you proceed. Random restarts, dead signal, muffled audio and unexplained drain all belong here. Start with phone keeps restarting if that matches your symptoms, or phone overheating if the handset is running hot.

How Long It Takes and What Is Covered

Most in-store repairs are done inside one to three hours, same day, and you can wait if you prefer. Mail-in repairs are usually completed within eight to twelve hours of arriving and returned tracked, with most people getting their phone back in two to three working days. All eligible repairs include a 12 month warranty on parts and labour. If a fault develops that relates to our work, bring it in and we will sort it. New accidental damage, liquid damage and unrelated faults are not covered, and third party work afterwards voids it.
