Galaxy Z Flip 4 Repairs, Folding Screen Included

The Flip 4 was mostly about fixing the one thing everybody complained about on the Flip 3: battery life. Samsung fitted a larger cell and improved the charging, and that made it the first clamshell most people could use as their only phone. Years on, that same battery is now the repair these most often need.

The folding main display is £259 and the outer cover screen is £119. Two completely different jobs at different costs, so be cautious of anyone quoting a single Flip screen price without asking which one you mean.

Galaxy Z Flip 4 Battery Replacement (£65)

Putting this first because on a Flip 4 it is usually the answer. Clamshells carry two separate cells, one in each half, both reached through a full strip down. The phone was bought for its battery improvement, and a degraded cell takes that advantage straight back.

• Capacity dropping noticeably in Settings, Battery and device care
• Sudden shutdowns with charge still on the meter
• Charge falling in steps rather than smoothly
• The handset warm during light use
• One half of the phone noticeably hotter than the other

That last symptom is specific to folding phones and worth acting on, because it usually means one of the two cells is failing rather than both ageing together. Folding in half also leaves less internal volume than a conventional phone of the same screen size, so a healthy cell matters more here than on most handsets. Galaxy Z Flip 4 Main Screen Replacement (£259)

The folding display has no toughened glass over it, because toughened glass will not bend. A soft polymer layer protects it instead, and it can be dented by a fingernail, a ring or a grain of sand.

• A vertical line at or near the crease, usually spreading
• A dead or flickering band across one half of the panel
• Black bleeding or ink-like blotches after pressure on the screen
• Touch responding on one half of the display but not the other
• A visible dent, puncture or bubble beneath the surface

The factory screen protector forms part of the display assembly. Peeling it off is one of the most common ways Flip owners destroy their own screen, so if yours is lifting at the edges, leave it and bring the phone in. The crease is normal and not a fault. Galaxy Z Flip 4 Outer Screen Replacement (£119)

Conventional glass bonded to an OLED panel, replaced as one assembly. The Flip 4 cover window is narrow compared with later models, which means owners open the phone far more often to do anything, and that constant folding is what wears hinges.

• Cracks radiating from a corner or edge impact
• Dead areas where touch stops registering
• Coloured lines running across the panel
• Black patches spreading over days
• Ghost touches occurring unprompted

Fix it promptly so fragments do not reach the hinge. If it is failing with no impact behind it, read phone screen flickering.

What Actually Kills Flip Screens

Most ruined Flip displays we see were never dropped. The phone closes onto whatever is sitting on its screen, and in a pocket or handbag that means sand, crumbs, grit, keys and make-up powder pressed into the folding panel. One hard particle punctures it.

• Never close the phone on anything, however small
• Keep it out of bags with loose keys, coins or cosmetics
• Take care on beaches, and coastal areas are worst for it
• If the hinge feels gritty, stop closing it and bring it in
• Avoid folding it in freezing weather

A hinge clean costs a fraction of a £259 display. If yours will not sit flush closed or feels rough, get it checked before the panel fails.

Galaxy Z Flip 4 Charging Repair (£55)

Most charging complaints are compacted lint in the USB-C socket stopping the cable seating, not a failed port. We clean and test before quoting.

Back Glass (£69) and Camera Repair (£69)

Camera work splits between cracked lens covers and failed modules. Blurred images, rattling from failed stabilisation, a black or crashing camera app, or one lens dead while the other works are the usual signs. Where nothing was dropped, phone camera not working covers software causes.

Water Damage

The Flip 4 has a water resistance rating, but a hinge cannot be sealed like a solid chassis, and water resistance is not dust resistance. On a phone this age, treat both as degraded.
