iPhone 13 Repairs: The Workhorse Everyone Still Has

The iPhone 13 sold in vast numbers and an enormous number are still in daily use. It hit a sweet spot of good battery life, a solid camera and a price that made sense, and nothing since has given owners a compelling reason to move on.

Which is exactly why repair matters on this model. A screen is £89 and a battery £59. For under £150 you can put a tired iPhone 13 back to something close to new condition, and it will keep receiving iOS updates for years yet.

Everything below is carried out at our own bench in Essex with a twelve month warranty.

Screen Replacement (£89)

An OLED panel bonded to Ceramic Shield glass and replaced as one assembly. At £89 this is one of the most affordable OLED screen replacements we do, and it is comfortably the repair we quote most often on this model.

• Cracks spreading from wherever the phone landed
• Areas that no longer respond to touch
• Green or pink lines running down the display
• Black patches growing larger day by day
• Ghost touches registering with nobody touching the screen

Worth ruling out before you book: if the handset still rings, vibrates and clearly works but shows nothing, the display connector may simply have been knocked loose. That is much cheaper than a panel and we check for it as standard. For screen faults with no drop behind them, read phone screen flickering.

Battery Replacement (£59)

At £59 this is one of the best value repairs on our entire list. Most iPhone 13 handsets are now four years old, which is well past the point where capacity holds up, and the symptoms are almost always mistaken for the phone having become old and slow.

• Maximum capacity under 80 percent in Settings, Battery, Battery Health
• Shutting down abruptly with charge still displayed
• Charge falling in sudden steps
• Warmth during light tasks like messaging
• Not lasting the day when it once managed easily

If your 13 feels sluggish as well as short on charge, that is worth knowing about: iOS reduces peak performance on batteries in poor health to prevent shutdowns, so a battery replacement often restores speed as well as endurance. Back Glass Replacement (£65)

Bonded rear glass, removed with a laser separator rather than heat. After four years the adhesive has fully cured, which makes clean removal harder than on a newer phone and is why proper equipment matters more, not less, on older handsets.

• Loose fragments scratch the camera lenses from behind
• The water seal is gone as soon as the glass cracks
• Wireless and MagSafe charging become unreliable
• Trade-in value drops by more than the repair costs

Charging Repair (£55)

Lightning generation, and after four years these ports have had thousands of insertions. The internal contacts wear, so the cable still clicks in and feels secure while the electrical connection has quietly become unreliable. Charging that works when you press or angle the cable and stops when you let go is the tell.

On phones this age, though, expect years of compacted lint in the socket first. It is frequently the entire problem and it is not a £55 repair. We clean and test before quoting. Camera Repair (£65)

The 13 moved to a diagonal rear lens arrangement, and the array sits proud of the body, so the outer lens cover takes the impact when the phone lands face up. Cover damage is cheaper than a module by a good margin.

• Cracked outer lens cover with a healthy module beneath
• Blurry images across every shooting mode after a drop
• Rattling or grinding as stabilisation fails
• Camera app opening black or crashing on launch
• Ultra-wide dead while the main lens works normally

Face ID and Front Sensor Faults

The TrueDepth array behind the notch drives Face ID. On four year old handsets we see failures from accumulated wear and from liquid ingress owners have often forgotten about. Refusing to enrol a new face, failing repeatedly in dim light, or reporting itself unavailable all point there.

The important caveat: Face ID is paired to the logic board at manufacture, so a damaged TrueDepth module cannot be replaced with one from another handset and made to work. A torn or disconnected flex cable is repairable. We diagnose which before quoting rather than charging you to find out.

Water Damage and Unexplained Faults

Anything else unclear carries a £15 diagnostic, deducted from the repair if you proceed. Phone keeps restarting and phone overheating are useful first reads.

Mail-in repairs are typically finished within eight to twelve hours of arriving and returned tracked, most customers seeing their phone in two to three working days.
