iPhone 13 Mini Repairs: There Is No Replacement For This Phone

The 13 Mini was the last genuinely small iPhone Apple made. Nothing in the current range comes close to its size, and that changes the entire calculation when one breaks. With most handsets, repair competes against buying a newer model. With a 13 Mini, there is no newer model to buy. If you want a phone this size, repairing the one you have is the only route.

We see this constantly. People bring in Minis they have owned for years, having tried and disliked every larger phone since. At £79 for a screen and £59 for a battery, keeping one going is straightforward and inexpensive.

Screen Replacement (£79)

A bonded OLED panel under Ceramic Shield glass, replaced as a complete assembly. Small screens are fiddlier to work on than large ones, not easier. Components sit closer together and there is less margin around the edges of the panel, so the job takes a steadier hand than a Pro Max does.

• Cracks spreading from the point of impact
• Dead areas where touch no longer registers
• Green or pink lines running down the display
• Black patches growing over several days
• Ghost touches occurring without any input

Interestingly, Minis crack less often than larger iPhones. They are easier to hold one-handed and easier to catch when they slip. When they do break it is usually a hard drop onto a corner rather than the flat landing bigger phones suffer. Battery Replacement (£59)

This is the repair the Mini needs more than any other, and the reason is physics. A small phone has room for a small battery, so the Mini started life with less capacity than its siblings and had less in reserve to lose. Degradation that a Pro Max owner would barely register is immediately obvious on a Mini.

• Maximum capacity below 80 percent in Settings, Battery, Battery Health
• Not reaching the end of the day, where it once just about managed
• Sudden shutdowns with charge apparently remaining
• Charge dropping in steps rather than smoothly
• Warmth during light use

If your Mini has become a phone you charge twice a day, a £59 battery will very likely fix that entirely. It is the single most transformative repair on this model. Back Glass Replacement (£65)

Bonded rear glass removed with a laser separator. On a smaller chassis there is less material to absorb heat during removal, so the process needs more care than on a full sized handset. It is another reason to avoid anyone proposing a heat gun.

• Loose fragments scratch the camera lenses from behind
• The moisture seal fails as soon as the glass cracks
• Wireless and MagSafe charging turn intermittent
• Given how sought after Minis now are, damage hits resale value hard

Charging Repair (£55)

Lightning generation, and after four years the internal contacts have worn. The cable still clicks in and feels secure while the connection has become unreliable, so charging works when you press the cable and stops when you release it.

Before that, expect years of compacted lint in the socket. On phones this age it is often the whole problem and costs nothing like £55 to resolve. We clean and test before quoting a port. Camera Repair (£65)

The Mini uses the same diagonal dual lens arrangement as the standard 13, and the array stands proud of the body, so the outer lens cover absorbs the impact when the phone lands face up.

• Cracked lens cover with the module beneath undamaged
• Blurry images across every mode after a drop
• Rattling or grinding as stabilisation fails
• Camera app opening black or crashing on launch
• Ultra-wide dead while the main lens works

Face ID and Front Sensor Faults

The TrueDepth array behind the notch drives Face ID, and on handsets this age we see failures from wear and old liquid ingress. Refusing to enrol a new face, failing in low light, or reporting itself unavailable all point there.

Face ID is paired to the logic board at manufacture, so a damaged TrueDepth module cannot be swapped in from another phone and made to work. A torn or disconnected flex cable can be repaired. We diagnose which you have before quoting rather than charging you to find out.

Water Damage and Unexplained Faults

Anything else unclear carries a £15 diagnostic, deducted from the repair if you proceed. Phone keeps restarting and phone overheating are useful starting points.

In-store repairs are usually completed within one to three hours on the same day and you are welcome to wait. Mail-in repairs are typically finished within eight to twelve hours of arriving and returned by tracked delivery, most customers seeing their phone within two to three working days. All eligible repairs carry a 12 month warranty on parts and labour whatever the age of the phone. Faults relating to our work are put right at no cost. New accidental damage, liquid damage and unrelated faults are excluded.
