iPhone 6S Repairs: £35, the Cheapest We Do

Every repair on the iPhone 6S is £35. Screen, battery, camera, charging port, rear housing. It is the lowest price on our entire list, and the 6S is the oldest handset we still take on.

We would rather set expectations properly than take a booking you regret. This phone is ten years old. It has not received a new iOS version in years, a lot of apps will no longer install or update on it, banking apps in particular tend to refuse, and its market value is close to nothing. What it still does reliably is make calls, send texts, play music, take photographs and run older apps.

If that is what you need from it, £35 keeps it going and that is a perfectly sensible decision. If it needs two or three separate repairs, we will tell you straight that you are past the point where it adds up, because we would rather lose the job than take £105 off you for a phone that will disappoint you anyway.

Battery Replacement (£35)

On a 6S this is nearly always the right repair and often the only one worth doing. A ten year old lithium cell is thoroughly finished.

• Maximum capacity far below 80 percent in Settings, Battery, Battery Health
• Lasting under an hour on ordinary use
• Shutting down without warning, particularly in cold weather
• Charge collapsing in huge jumps, sometimes half the meter at once
• The phone feeling almost unusably slow

There is real history behind that last point. The 6S is the exact model at the centre of the battery throttling story that made headlines years ago, when it emerged that iOS was quietly reducing processor performance on handsets with degraded batteries to prevent unexpected shutdowns. The feature is now transparent and can be viewed in Battery Health settings, but the effect on a decade old cell is severe. A great many 6S handsets discarded as hopelessly slow needed nothing but a £35 battery. Screen Replacement (£35)

An LCD panel replaced as a complete assembly. The 6S introduced 3D Touch, which added a pressure-sensing layer behind the display, making the panel marginally more involved to replace than the iPhone 6 that came before it.

• Cracks spreading from the impact point
• Dead areas where touch no longer registers
• White or bright patches rather than black bleeding
• Backlight failure, leaving a faint image visible under a torch
• Ghost touches registering without any input

Check the backlight symptom before assuming the worst. If the phone seems completely dead but you can make out the home screen with a bright torch on it, the handset works and only the backlight has gone. Home Button and Touch ID

The 6S uses a mechanical home button that physically clicks, rather than the pressure-sensitive pad Apple introduced with the iPhone 7. Mechanically it holds up well, and complete button failure is less common here than on later models.

Touch ID behaves as it does on every model since: cryptographically paired to the logic board at the factory. If the assembly is damaged, a replacement will click and work as a home button, but fingerprint recognition cannot be brought back by anyone, at any price.

The assembly also has to be transferred from your original screen onto a replacement panel during a screen repair. Rushed, it is destroyed for good. We transfer it as standard on every 6S we open.

Rear Housing Repair (£35)

To be clear, because it causes confusion when people ring around for quotes: the iPhone 6S has no back glass. It is an aluminium unibody, which is why it has no wireless charging. There is no rear glass panel on this phone to replace.

Damage we do repair on the housing itself:

• Dents and deep scuffs from drops onto hard surfaces
• Bending or warping from sustained pressure
• A cracked camera lens cover set into the housing
• Damage around the port and speaker cut-outs

Thin aluminium phones of this era are known for warping under pressure, and a bent frame means nothing inside seats correctly. Worth checking on any 6S that has lived in a back pocket for a decade.

Charging Repair (£35)

Lightning port with ten years of insertions behind it. The contacts wear away, so the cable still clicks in and holds while the electrical connection has become unreliable. Charging that works when you press the cable and stops when you release it is the classic sign.

Before anything else, expect a socket completely packed with a decade of pocket lint. On 6S handsets this is very frequently the whole problem, and clearing it is not a chargeable repair here. Camera Repair (£35)

A single rear lens under cover glass set into the aluminium housing keeps this simple and cheap.

• Cracked lens cover over an otherwise healthy module
• Blurry or soft images after a drop
• Camera app opening black or crashing on launch
• Focus hunting continuously without settling
• Rattling from a failed stabilisation assembly

Water Damage and Getting Your Photos Back

The 6S has no water resistance rating whatever, so liquid damage on this model tends to be serious. On a ten year old handset, honestly, repair is usually not economic and we will tell you that rather than charging you to discover it.

What is very often worth doing instead is phone data recovery. A 6S that has stopped working is frequently carrying a decade of irreplaceable photographs that were never backed up, and recovering those matters far more than the phone does. In-store repairs are usually completed within one to three hours on the same day and you are welcome to wait. Mail-in repairs are typically finished within eight to twelve hours of arriving and returned tracked, most customers seeing their phone in two to three working days.
