Galaxy S23 Ultra Repairs
The S23 Ultra was the last of the curved-screen Ultras, and that single detail explains why its screen is the most expensive of the S22 to S24 generations at £199. Curved panels cost more to manufacture than flat ones, and they are considerably easier to break.
Everything else is well priced: camera £69, battery £59, back glass £59, charging £55, diagnostics £15. All carried out at our Essex repair centre with a twelve month warranty.
Galaxy S23 Ultra Screen Replacement (£199)
A large curved AMOLED panel bonded beneath toughened glass, replaced as a complete assembly. The curved edges are the weak point and it is worth understanding why. On a flat display, a side impact spreads across the frame. On a curved one, the glass itself wraps around the edge, so there is display right where the phone lands. That is why S23 Ultra screens so often crack from the side rather than the corner, and why a case with a raised lip matters more on this model than on the flat-screened S24 Ultra that replaced it.
- Cracks running along or from a curved edge
- Dead zones where touch no longer registers
- Vertical green, pink or white lines down the panel
- Black or discoloured patches spreading over days
- Ghost touches, which curved panels are particularly prone to after damage
The vertical line is worth calling out separately. On Galaxy AMOLED panels a line can appear with no impact at all, often shortly after a software update, and owners quite reasonably assume it is a bug. It is not. It is hardware, it spreads, and no update will clear it. Read phone screen flickering if that describes yours.
The fingerprint reader sits beneath the display, so a replacement panel has to be seated correctly and the sensor tested afterwards. We do that before the phone goes back. More on our Samsung screen repair page.
Galaxy S23 Ultra Battery Replacement (£59)
On a phone of this age this is almost always the repair worth doing first. Most S23 Ultras have enough charge cycles behind them now that capacity is well down, and at £59 it transforms daily use for very little money.
- Capacity noticeably below where it started, under Settings then Battery and device care
- Sudden shutdowns with charge still displayed
- Charge dropping in steps rather than smoothly
- The handset warm during undemanding use
- Needing a charger by mid-afternoon
Rule out software before paying for hardware. Our guide on why a phone battery drains so fast works through it, and Samsung battery replacement lists pricing. If it runs hot, read phone overheating.
Galaxy S23 Ultra Camera Repair (£69)
The S23 Ultra carries a very high resolution main sensor alongside a long optical zoom that uses a folded lens arrangement, sitting differently in the housing to a conventional module. Alignment matters on these, so it is not a routine swap.
- Cracked outer lens cover with the modules beneath undamaged
- Blurry images across every shooting mode after a drop
- Rattling or grinding as optical stabilisation fails
- Camera app opening black or crashing on launch
- The zoom lens dead while the main and ultra-wide still work
The individual lens rings on this generation stand proud of the body with no shared housing, which means they take direct impacts and crack individually. That is often good news, because replacing one cracked ring is far cheaper than a whole array. Where nothing was dropped, phone camera not working covers the software side.
Galaxy S23 Ultra Back Glass Replacement (£59)
Bonded rear glass removed with a laser separator rather than heat and prying tools. There is a large bonded area on an Ultra, and the wireless charging coil directly beneath rarely survives an improvised attempt.
- Loose fragments scratch the camera lenses from behind
- The moisture seal fails as soon as the glass cracks
- Wireless charging becomes intermittent
- Trade-in value drops by more than the repair costs
Our cracked back glass guide explains why home kits make things worse.
Galaxy S23 Ultra Charging Repair (£55)
On a phone of this age expect years of compacted lint in the USB-C socket, which is frequently the whole problem rather than a failed port. We clean and test before quoting anything.
Genuine failure means charging at one angle only, cutting out when the phone moves, or a connector that feels loose. Try another cable and mains plug, then read why a phone will not charge. Our Samsung charging repair page covers the work.
S Pen Problems
The S Pen silo is a hole cut through an otherwise sealed chassis and a known route for dust and moisture. If the pen no longer registers, will not eject, or the phone stops detecting it being removed, that is usually the silo assembly or its connector rather than the pen. We diagnose and quote it individually.
Water Damage and Unclear Faults
The S23 Ultra has a water resistance rating, but ratings describe a phone factory-fresh and undamaged. A drop, a cracked back or a worn S Pen silo all compromise it, and on a phone this age the seals are past their best regardless. Ratings also cover fresh water rather than sea water.
Liquid damage is assessed rather than quoted. See phone water damage repair, and phone data recovery if the contents matter more than the handset. Anything else unclear carries a £15 diagnostic, deducted from the repair if you proceed, and phone keeps restarting is a sensible first read.
Turnaround, Warranty and Booking
In-store repairs are usually completed within one to three hours on the same day and you are welcome to wait. Mail-in repairs are typically finished within eight to twelve hours of arriving and returned tracked, most customers seeing their phone in two to three working days. Send-back postage is free and Klarna is available at checkout.
Every eligible repair includes a 12 month warranty on parts and labour whatever the age of the handset. Faults relating to our work are put right at no cost. New accidental damage, liquid damage and unrelated faults are excluded.
Book online through our Essex repair centre page, call 07939 990557, or contact us.
We also repair the Galaxy S23 Plus, Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S24 Ultra, with the full range on our Samsung repairs page.
Galaxy S23 Ultra Repairs: What Owners Ask
Why is the S23 Ultra screen more expensive than the newer S24 Ultra?
Because it was the last curved Ultra. Curved panels cost more to manufacture than flat ones, so the older S23 Ultra screen is £199 against £189 for the newer, larger S24 Ultra. It is not an age premium, it is the panel design, and it is the same reason curved screens crack more readily.
Why do S23 Ultra screens crack along the side?
Because the display curves over the edge, so a side impact lands directly on active screen with no frame to absorb it. On a flat panel the metal frame takes that hit instead. It is why a case with a raised lip matters far more on an S23 Ultra than on the flat-screened S24 Ultra that replaced it.
Can one camera lens be replaced on its own?
On this generation, often yes. The S23 Ultra uses individual lens rings standing proud of the body rather than a single shared housing, so each lens takes direct impacts and cracks on its own. Replacing one cracked ring is considerably cheaper than a whole array, and it is worth having diagnosed properly rather than assuming.
My S Pen has stopped registering on my S23 Ultra. Is it the pen?
Usually the silo assembly or its connector rather than the pen itself. The slot is a hole cut through an otherwise sealed chassis, so it collects dust and moisture and wears from thousands of insertions. Bring the pen in with the phone so we can test both together and quote accurately rather than guessing.
Is a battery replacement the best value repair on an S23 Ultra?
Almost always. At £59 it is a fraction of the £199 screen and on a phone with this many charge cycles behind it now, it makes the biggest difference to daily use. Rule out software first though, because background activity and an old update can imitate a failing cell very convincingly.
Should I trust the water resistance on an S23 Ultra now?
No, treat it as degraded. Ratings describe a phone factory-fresh and undamaged, tested in fresh water in a laboratory. On a handset of this age the seals are past their best regardless, and the S Pen silo is a weak point on any Ultra. A drop or cracked back panel compromises it further.
