Galaxy S9 Repairs from £49

The S9 is an old phone now, and worth being straight about. It no longer gets Android updates, some apps will no longer install, and it is worth relatively little. It still works perfectly well as a phone, a camera and a second handset, and a great many are still doing exactly that.

This is the repair that keeps an S9 alive, and usually the only one worth doing. Original cells are years past their useful life.

• Capacity far below where it started, under Settings then Battery and device care
• Lasting an hour or two on ordinary use
• Shutting down without warning, particularly in cold weather
• Charge collapsing in large steps
• The phone feeling slow as well as short on charge

That final symptom is why working phones get thrown away. Galaxy S9 Screen Replacement (£99)

A curved AMOLED panel bonded beneath toughened glass, replaced as a complete assembly. The Infinity Display curves down both long edges, and those curves are the weak point, because a side impact lands on active display rather than the frame.

• Cracks running along or from a curved edge
• Dead zones where touch no longer registers
• Vertical green, pink or white lines down the panel
• Black or discoloured patches spreading over days
• A faint permanent ghost of the status bar or navigation buttons

That last symptom is screen burn, and on AMOLED panels this old it is common. It is not damage and cannot be repaired, only replaced, and plenty of owners live with it rather than spend £99. The Fingerprint Sensor Is on the Back

Unlike later Galaxies, the S9 puts its fingerprint reader on the rear below the camera rather than under the display. That is good news at repair time: a screen replacement has no effect on it whatever, and none of the in-display sensor problems that plague newer models apply here.

No screen protector will ever stop this reader working. If yours has stopped responding, it is the sensor itself or its flex cable, and we quote that individually after a diagnostic.

Galaxy S9 Back Glass Replacement (£49)

Bonded rear glass removed with a laser separator. On a phone this age the adhesive has fully cured, making clean removal harder rather than easier.

• Loose fragments scratch the camera lens from behind
• The moisture seal fails as soon as the glass cracks
• Wireless charging becomes unreliable
• Sharp edges are a nuisance in daily use

Galaxy S9 Charging Repair (£49)

On a phone this old expect a USB-C socket packed with years of compacted lint, and it is very often the whole problem rather than a failed port. Clearing it is not a chargeable repair here.

The S9 introduced a variable aperture main camera that physically switches between two settings depending on light. It is a moving mechanism, and moving mechanisms wear over time.

• Cracked lens cover with the module beneath undamaged
• Blurry images across every shooting mode after a drop
• Images inconsistently exposed, or a faint click from the aperture mechanism
• Camera app opening black or crashing on launch
• Rattling from a failed stabilisation assembly

Using an S9 Safely in 2026

One thing worth saying plainly about any phone no longer receiving security updates. The hardware is fine, but the software has stopped being patched, and that changes what the phone is sensible for.

• It remains perfectly good for calls, messages, photographs and music
• Keep the apps you do use updated through the Play Store, which still works
• Be more cautious than usual about banking and payment apps, some of which now refuse to run on unsupported versions
• Avoid sideloading apps from outside the Play Store on an unpatched device
• It makes an excellent second phone, spare, or first phone for a child

None of that is a reason to bin a working handset. It is a reason to think about what job you are asking it to do, and we would rather tell you that than sell you a repair without mentioning it.

Water Damage and Whether It Is Worth Repairing

The S9 has a water resistance rating, but on a phone this old the seals should be treated as gone. Ratings also cover fresh water rather than sea water.

Liquid damage is assessed rather than quoted, and on a handset worth what an S9 is worth today, the honest answer is frequently that repair does not add up.
