Galaxy S8 Repairs from £49

The Galaxy S8 changed what phones look like. It removed the home button, wrapped the display around both edges and introduced the Infinity Display that every Samsung flagship has followed since. Nearly a decade on, plenty are still working.

We will be honest about what you are keeping, though. The S8 no longer receives Android updates, a fair number of apps have dropped support, and it is worth relatively little. What it still does perfectly well is calls, messages, photographs and music. Repairs are priced for that: screen £99, battery £55, and back glass, camera and charging all £49.

Galaxy S8 Battery Replacement (£55)

On a phone this old this is nearly always the only repair worth doing, and it is the one that brings it back to life. Original S8 cells are approaching a decade old and have very little left in them.

  • Capacity far below where it started, under Settings then Battery and device care
  • Lasting an hour or so on ordinary use
  • Shutting down without warning, particularly in cold weather
  • Charge collapsing in huge steps, sometimes half the meter at once
  • The phone feeling extremely slow as well as short on charge

That final symptom is the reason perfectly good handsets get thrown away. A degraded battery makes the system throttle performance to avoid shutdowns, so the phone feels finished rather than simply tired. A £55 cell frequently restores both speed and endurance. Eliminate software first with our guide on why a phone battery drains so fast, and see Samsung battery replacement for pricing. If it runs hot, read phone overheating.

Galaxy S8 Screen Replacement (£99)

A curved AMOLED panel bonded beneath toughened glass, replaced as a complete assembly. The S8 introduced the deeply curved Infinity Display, and it remains among the most fragile screen designs Samsung has shipped. The glass wraps a long way around both long edges, so a side impact lands directly on active display with no frame to absorb it. These crack from the edge far more often than the corner.

  • Cracks running along or from a curved edge
  • Dead zones where touch no longer registers
  • Vertical green, pink or white lines down the panel
  • Black or discoloured patches spreading over days
  • A faint permanent ghost of the status bar or navigation buttons

Screen burn is very common on AMOLED panels of this age. It is not damage, it cannot be repaired, and only a new panel clears it. A lot of owners simply live with it rather than spend £99, and we will tell you plainly if that is all yours has rather than selling you a display. If the screen is misbehaving with no impact behind it, read phone screen flickering, and our Samsung screen repair page covers the process.

The Fingerprint Sensor Next to the Camera

The S8 is notorious for one design decision, and it produces the most common camera complaint we get on this model.

Because Samsung removed the home button before in-display fingerprint readers existed, the sensor ended up on the back directly beside the camera lens rather than below it. Owners have therefore spent years smearing the lens with an index finger while reaching for the sensor.

If your S8 takes hazy, foggy or low contrast photographs, clean the lens properly with a microfibre cloth before assuming anything is broken. It costs nothing and it fixes the problem more often than not.

The compensation is that a rear-mounted sensor is completely independent of the display. A screen replacement has no effect on it, and no screen protector can ever interfere with it, which is more than can be said for later Galaxies.

Galaxy S8 Back Glass Replacement (£49)

Bonded rear glass removed with a laser separator rather than heat and prying tools. On a phone this old the adhesive has fully cured, which makes clean removal harder rather than easier.

  • Loose fragments scratch the camera lens from behind
  • The moisture seal fails as soon as the glass cracks
  • Wireless charging becomes unreliable
  • Sharp edges are a genuine nuisance in daily use

Our cracked back glass guide explains why the kits sold online cause more damage than they fix.

Galaxy S8 Charging Repair (£49)

On a phone approaching a decade old, expect a USB-C socket completely packed with compacted lint. It is very often the entire problem rather than a failed port, and clearing it is not a chargeable repair here.

Genuine failure means charging that works only at one angle, cuts out when the phone is moved, or a connector that feels loose. Try a different cable and mains plug first, then read why a phone will not charge. Our Samsung charging repair page covers the replacement.

Galaxy S8 Camera Repair (£49)

A single rear lens keeps this simple and cheap. Clean the lens first, for the reason above.

  • Cracked lens cover with the module beneath undamaged
  • Blurry or hazy images, which is often just a smeared lens
  • Camera app opening black or crashing on launch
  • Focus hunting continuously without settling
  • Rattling from a failed stabilisation assembly

Where nothing was dropped, phone camera not working covers the software checks worth trying first.

Water Damage and Whether It Is Worth Repairing

The S8 has a water resistance rating, but on a phone this old those seals should be treated as long gone. Ratings also cover fresh water rather than sea water, which matters anywhere near the coast.

Liquid damage is assessed rather than quoted, and on a handset of this age the honest answer is usually that a repair does not add up. When that happens, phone data recovery is very often the service that genuinely helps, because a phone this old is frequently carrying the best part of a decade of photographs that were never backed up anywhere. Getting those back matters more than the handset does. See phone water damage repair for how we assess these. Anything else unclear carries a £15 diagnostic, deducted from the repair if you proceed, and phone keeps restarting is a good first read.

Turnaround, Warranty and Booking

In-store repairs are usually completed within one to three hours on the same day and you are welcome to wait. Mail-in repairs are typically finished within eight to twelve hours of arriving and returned by tracked delivery, most customers seeing their phone in two to three working days. Send-back postage is free and Klarna is available at checkout.

Every eligible repair includes a 12 month warranty on parts and labour. A phone from 2017 gets exactly the same twelve months as the newest handset on our bench, which we think says something about how we work. New accidental damage, liquid damage and unrelated faults are excluded.

Book online through our Essex repair centre page, call 07939 990557, or contact us and we will tell you honestly whether yours is worth fixing.

We also repair the Galaxy S8 Plus, Galaxy S9 and Galaxy Note 8, with the full range on our Samsung repairs page.

Galaxy S8 Repairs: Clean the Lens First

My Galaxy S8 takes foggy photos. Is the camera broken?

Clean the lens before assuming anything. The S8 put its fingerprint reader on the back directly beside the camera, so owners spend years smearing the lens with an index finger while reaching for the sensor. Hazy, low contrast or foggy photographs on an S8 are usually a dirty lens. A microfibre cloth fixes it for free.

Why did Samsung put the S8 fingerprint sensor next to the camera?

Because the home button was removed before in-display fingerprint readers existed, and the sensor had to go somewhere. It is the most complained-about design decision of that generation, and Samsung moved it below the camera on the Note 9 in response. The upside is that a rear sensor is completely independent of the display.

Is the Galaxy S8 screen particularly fragile?

Among the most fragile Samsung has shipped, yes. The S8 introduced the deeply curved Infinity Display, and the glass wraps a long way around both long edges so a side impact lands directly on active screen. These crack from the side far more often than the corner, and there is no frame there to absorb anything.

Can you fix screen burn on a Galaxy S8?

Only by replacing the panel. A permanent faint ghost of the status bar or navigation buttons on plain backgrounds is screen burn, and it is very common on AMOLED displays approaching a decade old. It is not damage, cannot be repaired, and plenty of owners live with it rather than spend £99.

Is a Galaxy S8 safe to use for banking?

We would not. The S8 stopped receiving security updates years ago, so the software is no longer being patched even though the hardware works. A growing number of apps will not install on it and banking apps in particular are likely to refuse. It makes a perfectly good second phone, spare or camera.

What is the most worthwhile repair on a Galaxy S8?

The battery at £55. On a phone approaching a decade old that is where nearly all the perceived slowness comes from, because the system throttles performance heavily on a degraded cell to prevent shutdowns. A new battery frequently restores both speed and endurance, and it is usually the only repair one needs.
