Galaxy S8 Plus Repairs from £49
The S8 Plus is the oldest Galaxy flagship we still repair, and it deserves its place in history. It was the phone that killed the home button, introduced the Infinity Display and set the shape of every Samsung flagship since.
It is also a phone from a very different era, and we will be straight about that. It no longer receives Android updates, some apps will not install, and it is worth relatively little. Repairs are priced accordingly: screen £99, and back glass, camera, battery and charging all £49.
Galaxy S8 Plus Battery Replacement (£49)
On a phone this old this is almost always the only repair worth doing, and it is the one that makes it usable again. Original cells are the best part of a decade past their service life.
- Capacity far below where it started, under Settings then Battery and device care
- Lasting an hour or so on ordinary use
- Shutting down without warning, especially in cold weather
- Charge collapsing in huge steps, sometimes half the meter at once
- The phone feeling slow as well as short on charge
That last symptom sends working phones to landfill. A degraded battery causes the system to throttle performance to prevent shutdowns, so the handset feels finished rather than merely tired. A £49 cell frequently brings back both speed and endurance. Eliminate software first with our guide on why a phone battery drains so fast, and see Samsung battery replacement for pricing. If it runs hot, read phone overheating.
Galaxy S8 Plus Screen Replacement (£99)
A curved AMOLED panel bonded beneath toughened glass, replaced as a complete assembly. The S8 generation introduced the deeply curved Infinity Display, and it is among the most fragile screen designs Samsung ever shipped. The glass wraps a long way around both edges, so a side impact lands squarely on active display with no frame to absorb it.
- Cracks running along or from a curved edge
- Dead zones where touch no longer registers
- Vertical green, pink or white lines down the panel
- Black or discoloured patches spreading over days
- A faint permanent ghost of the status bar or navigation buttons
Screen burn is very common on AMOLED panels this old. It is not damage, cannot be repaired and only a new panel clears it, and plenty of owners live with it rather than spend £99. We will tell you honestly if that is all yours has. If the display is misbehaving with no impact behind it, read phone screen flickering, and our Samsung screen repair page covers the process.
The Fingerprint Sensor Beside the Camera
The S8 generation is notorious for one design decision. Because the home button was removed and Samsung had not yet worked out in-display readers, the fingerprint sensor was placed on the back directly beside the camera lens rather than below it.
In practice that means owners have spent years smearing the camera lens with their index finger while reaching for the sensor. If your S8 Plus takes hazy, low contrast or foggy looking photographs, clean the lens properly before assuming anything is broken. It is the single most common camera complaint we get on this model and it costs nothing to rule out.
The upside is that a rear sensor is entirely independent of the display, so a screen replacement has no effect on it, and no screen protector can interfere with it.
Galaxy S8 Plus Back Glass Replacement (£49)
Bonded rear glass removed with a laser separator. On a phone this old the adhesive has fully cured, making clean removal harder rather than easier.
- Loose fragments scratch the camera lens from behind
- The moisture seal fails as soon as the glass cracks
- Wireless charging becomes unreliable
- Sharp edges are a genuine nuisance in daily use
Our cracked back glass guide explains why home kits make things worse.
Galaxy S8 Plus Charging Repair (£49)
On a phone this old expect a USB-C socket completely packed with the best part of a decade of compacted lint. It is frequently the entire problem, and clearing it is not a chargeable repair here.
Genuine failure means charging at one angle only, cutting out when the phone moves, or a connector that feels loose. Try another cable and mains plug, then read why a phone will not charge. Our Samsung charging repair page covers the work.
Galaxy S8 Plus Camera Repair (£49)
A single rear lens keeps camera repairs straightforward and cheap on this model. Do clean the lens first, for the reason above.
- Cracked lens cover with the module beneath undamaged
- Blurry or hazy images, often just a smeared lens
- Camera app opening black or crashing on launch
- Focus hunting continuously without settling
- Rattling from a failed stabilisation assembly
Where nothing was dropped, phone camera not working covers the software checks.
Water Damage and Whether It Is Worth Repairing
The S8 Plus has a water resistance rating, but on a phone this old those seals should be treated as long gone. Ratings also cover fresh water rather than sea water.
Liquid damage is assessed rather than quoted, and on a handset of this age the honest answer is usually that repair does not add up. When that is the case, phone data recovery is very often the service that genuinely helps, because a phone this old is frequently carrying years of photographs that were never backed up. See phone water damage repair for how we assess these. Anything else unclear carries a £15 diagnostic, deducted from the repair if you proceed, and phone keeps restarting is a good first read.
Turnaround, Warranty and Booking
In-store repairs are usually completed within one to three hours on the same day and you are welcome to wait. Mail-in repairs are typically finished within eight to twelve hours of arriving and returned tracked, most customers seeing their phone in two to three working days. Send-back postage is free and Klarna is available at checkout.
Every eligible repair includes a 12 month warranty on parts and labour. A phone from 2017 gets exactly the same cover as the newest handset we handle, which we think says something about how we work. New accidental damage, liquid damage and unrelated faults are excluded.
Book online through our Essex repair centre page, call 07939 990557, or contact us.
We also repair the Galaxy S8, Galaxy S9 Plus and Galaxy Note 8, with the full range on our Samsung repairs page.
Galaxy S8 Plus Repairs: What to Check First
Why are my Galaxy S8 Plus photos hazy?
Clean the lens first. The S8 generation put the fingerprint sensor on the back directly beside the camera rather than below it, so owners have spent years smearing the lens with an index finger while reaching for the reader. It is the single most common camera complaint we get on this model and it costs nothing to rule out.
Why is the S8 Plus rear glass so hard to replace?
It is bonded to the frame and needs a laser separator rather than heat and prying tools, because the wireless charging coil sits directly beneath. After this many years the adhesive has fully cured too, which makes clean removal harder rather than easier. That is why a lot of shops decline this job on an S8 entirely.
Does the fingerprint sensor position affect S8 Plus repairs?
It helps. Because the reader is on the back rather than under the display, a screen replacement has no effect on it and no screen protector can interfere with it. Samsung moved the sensor below the camera on the Note 9 precisely because of the smudging problem, but the rear placement itself is good news at repair time.
Why do S8 Plus screens crack so easily at the edges?
The S8 introduced the deeply curved Infinity Display, and it remains among the most fragile screen designs Samsung has shipped. The glass wraps a long way around both long edges, so a side impact lands squarely on active display with no frame to absorb it. These crack from the edge far more often than the corner.
Is a Galaxy S8 Plus worth repairing?
On a battery at £49, if you want to keep using it, yes. It is a 2017 phone with no Android updates, some apps will not install and banking apps are likely to refuse. It still works as a phone and camera. If it needs several repairs at once we will tell you the money is better spent elsewhere.
Do you still get parts for phones this old?
Yes, we can still source screens, batteries, cameras and rear glass for the S8 generation, which is not true of every 2017 handset. Availability varies, so it is worth contacting us before planning a repair. A phone this old still gets exactly the same 12 month warranty on parts and labour as a current flagship.
