The S8 Plus is the oldest Galaxy flagship we still repair, and it deserves its place in history. It was the phone that killed the home button, introduced the Infinity Display and set the shape of every Samsung flagship since.

It is also a phone from a very different era, and we will be straight about that. It no longer receives Android updates, some apps will not install, and it is worth relatively little. Repairs are priced accordingly: screen £99, and back glass, camera, battery and charging all £49.

Galaxy S8 Plus Battery Replacement (£49)

On a phone this old this is almost always the only repair worth doing, and it is the one that makes it usable again. Original cells are the best part of a decade past their service life.

• Capacity far below where it started, under Settings then Battery and device care
• Lasting an hour or so on ordinary use
• Shutting down without warning, especially in cold weather
• Charge collapsing in huge steps, sometimes half the meter at once
• The phone feeling slow as well as short on charge

That last symptom sends working phones to landfill. A degraded battery causes the system to throttle performance to prevent shutdowns, so the handset feels finished rather than merely tired. Galaxy S8 Plus Screen Replacement (£99)

A curved AMOLED panel bonded beneath toughened glass, replaced as a complete assembly. The S8 generation introduced the deeply curved Infinity Display, and it is among the most fragile screen designs Samsung ever shipped. The glass wraps a long way around both edges, so a side impact lands squarely on active display with no frame to absorb it.

• Cracks running along or from a curved edge
• Dead zones where touch no longer registers
• Vertical green, pink or white lines down the panel
• Black or discoloured patches spreading over days
• A faint permanent ghost of the status bar or navigation buttons

Screen burn is very common on AMOLED panels this old. It is not damage, cannot be repaired and only a new panel clears it, and plenty of owners live with it rather than spend £99. The Fingerprint Sensor Beside the Camera

The S8 generation is notorious for one design decision. Because the home button was removed and Samsung had not yet worked out in-display readers, the fingerprint sensor was placed on the back directly beside the camera lens rather than below it.

In practice that means owners have spent years smearing the camera lens with their index finger while reaching for the sensor. If your S8 Plus takes hazy, low contrast or foggy looking photographs, clean the lens properly before assuming anything is broken. It is the single most common camera complaint we get on this model and it costs nothing to rule out.

The upside is that a rear sensor is entirely independent of the display, so a screen replacement has no effect on it, and no screen protector can interfere with it.

Galaxy S8 Plus Back Glass Replacement (£49)

Bonded rear glass removed with a laser separator. On a phone this old the adhesive has fully cured, making clean removal harder rather than easier.

• Loose fragments scratch the camera lens from behind
• The moisture seal fails as soon as the glass cracks
• Wireless charging becomes unreliable
• Sharp edges are a genuine nuisance in daily use

On a phone this old expect a USB-C socket completely packed with the best part of a decade of compacted lint. It is frequently the entire problem, and clearing it is not a chargeable repair here.

A single rear lens keeps camera repairs straightforward and cheap on this model. Do clean the lens first, for the reason above.

• Cracked lens cover with the module beneath undamaged
• Blurry or hazy images, often just a smeared lens
• Camera app opening black or crashing on launch
• Focus hunting continuously without settling
• Rattling from a failed stabilisation assembly

Water Damage and Whether It Is Worth Repairing

The S8 Plus has a water resistance rating, but on a phone this old those seals should be treated as long gone. Ratings also cover fresh water rather than sea water.

Liquid damage is assessed rather than quoted, and on a handset of this age the honest answer is usually that repair does not add up. Mail-in repairs are typically finished within eight to twelve hours of arriving and returned tracked, most customers seeing their phone in two to three working days.
