Galaxy A23 5G Repairs from £49
The A23 5G is a budget phone that punches above its weight, and it is one we see regularly. Screen £85, and rear panel, camera, battery and charging all £49, with diagnostics at £15.
Worth addressing the screen price up front, because it looks odd next to the rest of our list. An A23 panel is £85 while an A33 or A34 is £75, despite those being higher-tier phones. That is not a markup. Panels for budget models are made in shorter production runs and are harder to source at good quality, and we would rather fit a proper part at £85 than a poor one at £60 that fails in six months.
Galaxy A23 5G Battery Replacement (£49)
This is the repair that keeps an A23 useful, and at £49 it is easily the best value thing you can do to one.
- Capacity noticeably below where it started, under Settings then Battery and device care
- Not lasting the day where it once managed comfortably
- Sudden shutdowns with charge still displayed, worse in cold weather
- Charge dropping in steps rather than smoothly
- The handset warm during light use
Before spending anything, check what is draining it. Settings, then Battery and device care, then Battery will list the apps that used most since the last full charge. On budget phones with less memory, background apps get reloaded constantly and that costs real battery life, so a clear-out sometimes solves it for free. Our guide on why a phone battery drains so fast covers the rest, and Samsung battery replacement lists pricing.
Galaxy A23 5G Screen Replacement (£85)
An LCD panel bonded beneath toughened glass, replaced as a complete assembly. The A23 uses LCD rather than the AMOLED found further up the range, and LCD fails differently, which is worth recognising.
- Cracks radiating from a corner or edge impact
- Dead zones where touch no longer registers
- White or bright blotches rather than the black bleeding AMOLED produces
- Backlight failure, leaving a faint image visible under a torch
- Ghost touches occurring with nobody holding the phone
That backlight symptom saves phones from being written off. If your A23 appears completely dead but you can make out the home screen when you shine a torch at it, the handset is working and only the backlight has gone. It is still a screen replacement, but the phone itself is fine and your data is safe. For faults with no impact behind them, read phone screen flickering, and our Samsung screen repair page covers the process.
Galaxy A23 5G Charging Repair (£49)
Most charging complaints on budget handsets are compacted lint in the USB-C socket stopping the cable seating, not a failed port. Clearing it is not a chargeable repair here, and on a phone at this price we would rather tell you that than take £49 off you.
Genuine failure means charging that works only at one angle, cuts out when the phone is moved, or a connector that feels loose. Try a different cable and mains plug first, then read why a phone will not charge. Our Samsung charging repair page covers the replacement.
The Fingerprint Reader Is in the Power Button
Budget A-series phones put the fingerprint reader in the side-mounted power button rather than under the display, and that is genuinely better news for repair than an in-display sensor.
- A screen replacement has no effect on it whatsoever
- No screen protector can ever interfere with it
- It works with wet or cold fingers better than an in-display reader
- If it fails, it is a separate and cheaper job than anything involving the panel
If yours has stopped responding, try re-registering the fingerprint first, and make sure a thick case is not stopping your thumb reaching the button squarely. Genuine failures are the button assembly or its flex cable and we quote them individually.
Galaxy A23 5G Rear Panel Replacement (£49)
The A23 uses a composite rear panel rather than glass, which means it cracks or scuffs rather than shattering, and survives drops that would destroy a glass-backed phone.
- Cracks and deep scuffs rather than spidering across the whole back
- Debris able to reach the camera lenses from behind
- Sharp edges where a panel has split
- Panels lifting at a corner after a hard drop
Our cracked back glass guide covers bonded rear panels generally.
Galaxy A23 5G Camera Repair (£49)
Separate lens rings set into the rear panel rather than a raised block, so there is less to catch when the phone lands face up and damage stays confined to one ring.
- Cracked lens cover on one lens with the others undamaged
- Blurry images across every shooting mode after a drop
- Camera app opening black or crashing on launch
- Focus hunting continuously without settling
- The camera app slow to open, which on budget phones is often software
Where nothing was dropped, phone camera not working covers the software checks.
Water Damage and Whether to Repair
The A23 has no water resistance rating, so treat it as completely unsealed. Liquid damage is assessed rather than quoted, and on a phone at this price the honest answer is often that repair does not add up.
When that is the case we will say so plainly rather than taking your money to find out. Phone data recovery is frequently the service that actually helps, because what people want back is the photographs. See phone water damage repair for how we assess these. Anything else unclear carries a £15 diagnostic, deducted from the repair if you proceed, and phone keeps restarting is a good first read.
Turnaround, Warranty and Booking
In-store repairs are usually completed within one to three hours on the same day and you are welcome to wait. Mail-in repairs are typically finished within eight to twelve hours of arriving and returned tracked, most customers seeing their phone in two to three working days. Send-back postage is free and Klarna is available at checkout.
Every eligible repair includes a 12 month warranty on parts and labour. A budget handset gets exactly the same cover as a flagship. New accidental damage, liquid damage and unrelated faults are excluded.
Book online through our Essex repair centre page, call 07939 990557, or contact us.
We also repair the Galaxy A22 5G, Galaxy A21s and Galaxy A32, with the full range on our Samsung repairs page.
Galaxy A23 Repairs: Why the Screen Costs What It Does
Why is the A23 screen more expensive than the A33 or A34?
At £85 against £75 it looks wrong, and it is worth explaining. Panels for budget models are made in shorter production runs and are harder to source at good quality. We would rather fit a proper part at £85 than a poor one at £60 that fails in six months and costs you the job twice.
Where is the fingerprint reader on a Galaxy A23?
In the side-mounted power button rather than under the display, which is genuinely better news at repair time. A screen replacement has no effect on it whatsoever, no screen protector can interfere with it, and it reads wet or cold fingers better than an in-display sensor does.
My A23 fingerprint reader has stopped working. What should I try?
Re-register the fingerprint first, and check that a thick case is not stopping your thumb reaching the power button squarely. Those two things account for most of the sensor complaints we get on side-mounted readers and both are free. Genuine failures are the button assembly or its flex cable, quoted individually.
My A23 screen looks dead but I can see it with a torch. Is it broken?
The backlight has failed rather than the phone. The A23 uses an LCD panel with a backlight behind it, and when that goes the handset is still working perfectly with everything on it intact. Shine a torch and if the home screen is faintly visible, it is a screen replacement, not a dead phone. People bin handsets over exactly this.
Is a Galaxy A23 worth repairing?
On a £49 battery, yes without hesitation. The £85 screen is a genuine decision against what the phone is worth used. Where it clearly stops adding up is liquid damage, and the A23 has no water resistance rating so that is more common than owners expect. We will be straight with you either way.
Why is my budget Galaxy so slow?
Usually memory rather than a fault. Budget phones carry far less RAM than flagships, so background apps are unloaded and reloaded constantly. A nearly full phone slows dramatically too. Clear out apps you never open, free some storage and restart properly before assuming anything is broken. It fixes the complaint more often than people expect.
