At £85 the Pixel 4a has the cheapest screen replacement of any Pixel we repair. It also has a rear fingerprint sensor, a headphone socket and a plastic body, which together make it one of the most forgiving Pixels to own and to fix.

Why is the Pixel 4a screen so cheap to replace?

A Google Pixel 4a screen replacement costs £85, the lowest screen price of any Pixel on our list. The Pixel 4a used a smaller, simpler OLED panel than the flagship models of its era, with no under-display fingerprint sensor bonded into the assembly to complicate matters.

That makes it one of the few older phones where a screen repair is comfortably worth doing rather than a genuine judgement call. On most handsets of this age a cracked screen prompts a conversation about whether to bother. On a 4a it usually does not.

Does a Pixel 4a screen replacement affect the fingerprint reader?

No. The Google Pixel 4a has its fingerprint sensor on the back of the phone rather than under the display, so a screen replacement cannot affect it at all.

• A screen replacement has no effect on the fingerprint reader
• No screen protector can ever interfere with it
• It reads wet or cold fingers better than an under-display sensor
• If it fails, it is a separate and cheaper job than anything involving the panel

If yours has stopped responding, re-register the fingerprint and check a thick case is not sitting proud of the sensor. Both are free to try.

Can you repair the headphone socket on a Pixel 4a?

Yes. The Pixel 4a is one of the last Pixels with a headphone socket, and it is repairable rather than something you have to live with, which surprises people.

• A socket gone crackly, or quiet on one side
• Plugs that no longer click in securely, or fall out under the weight of the cable
• Audio cutting out when the cable is moved
• The phone not detecting headphones being plugged in at all

Headphone sockets collect pocket lint exactly as charging ports do, and a great many crackly ones simply need cleaning rather than replacing. Try a different pair of headphones first to rule out the cable, then bring it in. We quote this work individually after a diagnostic.

Why is my Google Pixel 4a not charging?

Most Google Pixel 4a handsets that will not charge do not need a new port. On a phone this old expect a USB-C socket packed with years of compacted lint, and clearing that is not a chargeable repair at iExpert Repairs. A genuine Pixel 4a charging port repair costs £59.
