iPhone 14 Pro Max Repairs: Flagship Hardware at Sensible Prices

The 14 Pro Max introduced the Dynamic Island and was, at launch, the most expensive iPhone you could buy in the UK. Today its screen replacement costs £185, which is less than a standard iPhone 17 panel. That is what a few years does to parts pricing, and it makes this one of the most sensible handsets in the range to repair rather than replace.

It is still a genuinely capable phone with an always-on ProMotion display and a camera system that holds up well. Owners who look after them are keeping these for five or six years, and the repairs below are what keep them going.

Screen Replacement (£185)

A bonded OLED panel beneath Ceramic Shield glass, replaced as a single assembly. This generation runs an always-on display, which means the panel is doing more work than earlier models and makes a healthy screen worth maintaining.

• Cracks radiating from a corner or edge impact
• Unresponsive regions where touch no longer registers
• Green or pink vertical lines following a drop
• Dark bleeding that spreads across the panel over days
• Ghost touch inputs occurring unprompted

Worth checking before booking: a phone that rings and vibrates but shows nothing has often just lost a display connector, which costs far less than a panel. We test for that first. Where a screen is failing with no impact history, read phone screen flickering.

Battery Replacement (£69)

At this age, battery is the repair almost every 14 Pro Max eventually needs, and at £69 it is the single most cost-effective thing you can do to a phone that feels tired. An always-on display draws steadily, so these handsets work their batteries harder than models without one.

• Maximum capacity below 80 percent in Settings, Battery, Battery Health
• Sudden shutdowns with charge still showing, worse in cold weather
• Charge dropping in jumps rather than smoothly
• Warmth during undemanding use
• Needing a charger by early afternoon

Back Glass Replacement (£79)

Bonded rear glass, removed with a laser separator rather than heat. This generation uses a stainless steel frame, which holds heat differently to the titanium Apple moved to afterwards, and it is one more reason the job needs the right equipment.

• Loose fragments scratch the camera lenses from behind
• The moisture seal fails as soon as the glass cracks
• MagSafe and wireless charging become intermittent

Charging Repair (£69)

This generation still uses Lightning rather than USB-C, and Lightning ports have a particular failure mode: the contacts inside wear, so the cable holds mechanically but the connection becomes unreliable. That produces charging that works when you wiggle the cable and stops when you let go.

Before assuming a port, though, compacted lint is the most common cause of a phone that will not charge, and Lightning sockets pack it in tightly because they are narrow. Camera Repair (£79)

The rear array on the 14 Pro Max is large and stands well proud of the body, so the outer lens cover takes the impact when the phone lands face up. Cover damage is significantly cheaper than replacing a module, and we always establish which you have.

• Cracked lens cover with the module beneath undamaged
• Blurry images across every shooting mode after a drop
• Rattling or grinding as optical stabilisation fails
• Camera app opening black or crashing on launch
• Telephoto or ultra-wide dead while the main lens works

Dynamic Island and Face ID Faults

The 14 Pro Max was the first iPhone to use the Dynamic Island, and the sensor cluster behind it houses the TrueDepth array that Face ID depends on. When that assembly is damaged, usually by a hard drop or by liquid getting in, the symptoms are distinctive: Face ID stops enrolling new faces, fails consistently in low light, or reports that the feature is unavailable entirely.

This is worth being straight about. Face ID is paired to the logic board at manufacture, so a damaged TrueDepth module cannot simply be swapped for a working one from another handset and made to function. Where the fault is a torn or disconnected flex cable rather than the module itself, it is repairable. We diagnose which of the two you have before quoting, and we will tell you honestly if it is the unrepairable kind rather than taking your money to find out.

Water Damage and Unexplained Faults

Anything else unclear carries a £15 diagnostic, deducted from the repair if you go ahead. Restarts, signal loss, distorted audio and unexplained drain all sit here. Phone keeps restarting and phone overheating are useful first reads.

In-store repairs are usually completed within one to three hours on the same day and you can wait while we work. Mail-in repairs are typically finished within eight to twelve hours of arriving and returned by tracked delivery, most customers seeing their phone in two to three working days. Every eligible repair includes a 12 month warranty on parts and labour. Faults relating to our work are put right at no cost. New accidental damage, liquid damage and unrelated faults are excluded, and third party work afterwards voids it.
