Galaxy A71 Repairs from £55

The A71 was the top of the A-series when it launched and it still feels like a proper phone rather than a budget one. Screen £85, and rear panel, camera, battery and charging all £55, with diagnostics at £15.

It also belongs to the last generation of mid-range Samsungs that kept everything: a headphone socket, a microSD slot, and a large AMOLED display. That combination is why a lot of A71 owners have flatly refused to upgrade, and why we still see plenty of these.

Galaxy A71 Battery Replacement (£55)

On an A71 this is nearly always the repair worth doing. These are several years old now and original cells are well past their useful capacity, but the rest of the phone usually has plenty left in it.

• Capacity noticeably below where it started, under Settings then Battery and device care
• Not lasting the day where it once managed comfortably
• Sudden shutdowns with charge still displayed, worse in cold weather
• Charge dropping in steps rather than smoothly
• The handset warm during light use

Before spending anything, check Settings, then Battery and device care, then Battery, and look at which apps consumed the most since the last full charge. If something you rarely open is at the top of that list, you have found the problem for free. Galaxy A71 Screen Replacement (£85)

A large Super AMOLED panel bonded beneath toughened glass, replaced as a complete assembly. The A71 display is genuinely large and genuinely good, and it is the main reason repairing one beats replacing it with a cheaper modern handset that will feel like a downgrade.

• Cracks radiating from a corner or edge impact
• Dead zones where touch no longer registers
• Vertical green, pink or white lines down the panel
• Black or discoloured patches spreading over days
• The fingerprint reader failing after a screen impact

The A71 uses an under-display fingerprint reader, so a cracked panel frequently takes fingerprint recognition with it even where touch still works. If both stopped at the same moment, one repair fixes both. The vertical line is a separate known Galaxy AMOLED hardware failure that appears with no impact at all, often after a software update, and no patch clears it. Headphone Socket and microSD Slot

Two things the A71 has that newer mid-range Samsungs mostly do not, and both are repairable, which surprises people who assume they are stuck with the fault.

• A headphone socket gone crackly, quiet on one side, or dead
• Plugs that no longer click in, or fall out under the weight of the cable
• A microSD slot that no longer reads cards or reads them intermittently
• A SIM tray that has become loose or will not eject cleanly

Headphone sockets collect pocket lint exactly as charging ports do, and a great many crackly ones simply need cleaning. Try a different pair of headphones first to rule out the cable, then bring it in. We quote this work individually and it is usually cheaper than people expect.

Galaxy A71 Charging Repair (£55)

Most charging complaints on phones this age are compacted lint in the USB-C socket stopping the cable seating, not a failed port. Clearing it is not a chargeable repair here.

A composite rear panel rather than glass, which cracks or scuffs rather than shattering into fragments and survives drops that would destroy a glass-backed flagship.

• Cracks and deep scuffs rather than spidering across the whole back
• Debris able to reach the camera lenses from behind
• Sharp edges where a panel has split
• Panels lifting at a corner after a hard drop

Galaxy A71 Camera Repair (£55)

A rectangular rear camera block with separate lens rings, so damage tends to stay confined to one ring rather than the whole array.

• Cracked lens cover on one lens with the others undamaged
• Blurry images across every shooting mode after a drop
• Camera app opening black or crashing on launch
• Focus hunting continuously without settling
• Ultra-wide dead while the main lens works normally

Water Damage and Unclear Faults

The A71 has no water resistance rating, which catches people out because the phone feels premium enough that they assume it does. Treat it as unsealed, and be particularly careful around the headphone socket, which is a direct opening into the chassis.

In-store repairs are usually completed within one to three hours on the same day and you are welcome to wait. Mail-in repairs are typically finished within eight to twelve hours of arriving and returned tracked, most customers seeing their phone in two to three working days. Does the Galaxy A71 still have a headphone jack and memory card slot?

It has both, and that is a large part of why people hang on to these long after newer phones have passed them by. The A71 takes wired headphones without an adapter and accepts a microSD card for extra storage, two things Samsung has since dropped across most of the range. If you rely on either, replacing the A71 means giving them up entirely, which shifts the repair maths in favour of keeping it. Worth knowing that a card slot also changes how we approach data: if your photographs were saved to the microSD rather than internal storage, they are safe even when the phone itself is not, and you can read them elsewhere immediately.
