Galaxy A51 Repairs from £55

The A51 was, for a while, the best selling Android phone in the world. That means two things for you: an enormous number are still out there, and we have repaired more of them than almost any other Samsung. Screen £79, and rear panel, camera, battery and charging all £55.

It is also a phone from the era before Samsung started stripping features out of the mid-range. The A51 kept a headphone socket and a microSD slot, which is precisely why a lot of owners have refused to give theirs up.

Galaxy A51 Battery Replacement (£55)

On an A51 this is almost always the repair worth doing, and usually the only one. These handsets are several years old now and original cells are well past their useful capacity.

• Capacity noticeably below where it started, under Settings then Battery and device care
• Not reaching the end of the day where it once managed easily
• Sudden shutdowns with charge still displayed, worse in cold weather
• Charge dropping in steps rather than smoothly
• The handset warm during light use

The Headphone Socket and microSD Slot

Two features the A51 has that newer mid-range Samsungs mostly do not, and both are repairable, which surprises people.

• A headphone socket that has gone crackly, quiet on one side, or dead
• Plugs that no longer click in securely, or fall out under their own weight
• A microSD slot that no longer reads cards, or reads them intermittently
• A SIM tray that has become loose or will not eject cleanly

Headphone sockets fill with pocket lint exactly as charging ports do, and a great many crackly ones simply need cleaning rather than replacing. Try a different pair of headphones first to rule out the cable. If it genuinely needs work, we quote it individually after a diagnostic, and it is usually cheaper than people assume.

Galaxy A51 Screen Replacement (£79)

A Super AMOLED panel bonded beneath toughened glass, replaced as a complete assembly. The A51 display was well ahead of what its price bracket normally offered at the time, and it still looks good, which is why replacing the phone with something cheaper is usually a downgrade.

• Cracks radiating from a corner or edge impact
• Dead zones where touch no longer registers
• Vertical green, pink or white lines down the panel
• Black or discoloured patches spreading over days
• The fingerprint reader failing after a screen impact

The A51 uses an under-display fingerprint reader, which was unusual at this price when it launched. Because the sensor sits within the display assembly, a cracked screen frequently takes fingerprint recognition with it even where touch still works, and one repair fixes both. The vertical line is a separate Galaxy AMOLED hardware failure that appears with no impact at all, often after a software update, and no patch clears it. Galaxy A51 Charging Repair (£55)

On a phone of this age expect a USB-C socket well packed with years of compacted lint, and it is frequently the entire problem rather than a failed port. Clearing it is not a chargeable repair here.

Galaxy A51 Rear Panel Replacement (£55)

Bonded to the frame and removed with a laser separator. The A51 uses a composite rear panel rather than glass, which means it tends to crack or scuff rather than shatter into fragments, and it survives drops that would destroy a glass-backed flagship.

• Cracks and deep scuffs rather than spidering across the whole back
• The moisture seal compromised once the panel is damaged
• Debris reaching the camera lenses from behind
• Sharp edges where a panel has split

Galaxy A51 Camera Repair (£55)

Individual lens rings standing proud of the body rather than a shared housing, so each takes direct impacts and cracks on its own. One cracked ring is far cheaper than a whole array.

• Cracked lens cover on one lens with the others undamaged
• Blurry images across every shooting mode after a drop
• Camera app opening black or crashing on launch
• Focus hunting continuously without settling
• Ultra-wide dead while the main lens works normally

Water Damage and Unclear Faults

The A51 has no water resistance rating, which is worth knowing because plenty of owners assume every modern phone has one. Treat it as unsealed, and be particularly careful around the headphone socket, which is a direct opening into the chassis.

Liquid damage is assessed rather than quoted, and on a phone of this age we will give you an honest view on whether repair is economic.
