Galaxy S20 Repairs from £49
The standard S20 was the compact flagship of its year and the one that brought high refresh displays to the Galaxy range. It was also criticised at launch for battery life, and years later that has become the defining issue with these handsets.
Fortunately it is the cheapest thing to fix. A battery is £55, a screen £135, back glass £49 and charging £49. All work is done at our Essex repair centre with a twelve month warranty.
Galaxy S20 Battery Replacement (£55)
This comes first because on an S20 it is nearly always the answer. The phone had modest capacity to begin with for a handset driving a high refresh display, and less in reserve to lose than the Plus or Ultra. Degradation therefore shows up sooner and bites harder.
- Capacity noticeably below where it started, under Settings then Battery and device care
- Dead by mid-afternoon on ordinary use
- Sudden shutdowns with charge still displayed, particularly in cold weather
- Charge dropping in large steps rather than smoothly
- The handset warm during light use
One thing worth trying before you book: dropping the display from its high refresh setting back to standard makes a genuine difference on this generation, and it costs nothing. If that alone fixes your problem, you did not need us. If it does not, a £55 cell almost certainly will. Our guide on why a phone battery drains so fast covers the rest, and Samsung battery replacement lists pricing. If it runs hot too, read phone overheating.
Galaxy S20 Screen Replacement (£135)
A curved AMOLED panel bonded beneath toughened glass, replaced as a complete assembly. Because the display curves over the sides, a side impact lands on active screen rather than on the frame, which is why these crack from the edge so readily.
- Cracks running along or from a curved edge
- Dead zones where touch no longer registers
- Vertical green, pink or white lines down the panel
- Black or discoloured patches spreading over days
- Ghost touches, which curved panels are particularly prone to after damage
The vertical green line is a known failure on Galaxy AMOLED panels of this era. It appears with no drop, no water and no obvious cause, very often shortly after a software update, and people wait months for a patch that was never coming. It is hardware, it widens over weeks, and only a new panel resolves it. Read phone screen flickering if that describes yours.
The fingerprint reader sits under the display, so a replacement panel must be seated correctly and the sensor tested afterwards. We test it before the phone goes back. More on our Samsung screen repair page.
Galaxy S20 Back Glass Replacement (£49)
Bonded rear glass removed with a laser separator rather than heat and prying tools. At £49 there is little reason to live with a cracked back, and the damage is not purely cosmetic.
- Loose fragments scratch the camera lenses from behind
- The moisture seal fails as soon as the glass cracks
- Wireless charging becomes unreliable
- Sharp edges are a nuisance on a phone in daily use
Our cracked back glass guide explains why home kits make things worse.
Galaxy S20 Charging Repair (£49)
On a phone of this age expect a USB-C socket packed with years of compacted lint, and it is very often the entire problem rather than a failed port. Clearing it is not a chargeable repair here, and we will say so if that is all it needed.
Genuine failure means charging that works only at one angle, cuts out when the phone is moved, a connector that feels loose, or charging that works while data transfer refuses. Try a different cable and mains plug first, then read why a phone will not charge. Our Samsung charging repair page covers the replacement.
Galaxy S20 Camera Repair (£59)
The S20 uses a raised rectangular camera housing standing proud of the body, so it makes contact first when the phone lands face up. Cracked cover glass over undamaged modules is common and cheaper to fix than it looks.
- Cracked lens cover with the modules beneath undamaged
- Blurry images across every shooting mode after a drop
- Rattling or grinding as optical stabilisation fails
- Camera app opening black or crashing on launch
- Ultra-wide dead while the main lens works normally
We establish which you need rather than defaulting to a module. Where nothing was dropped, phone camera not working covers the software side.
Water Damage and Unclear Faults
The S20 carries a water resistance rating, but that describes the phone factory-fresh and undamaged, and on a handset this age the seals have degraded regardless. Ratings also cover fresh water rather than sea water, which is worth knowing locally.
Liquid damage is assessed rather than quoted, and on a phone of this value we will be direct about whether repair is economic rather than taking your money to find out. See phone water damage repair, and phone data recovery if what you need is the contents. Anything else unclear carries a £15 diagnostic, deducted from the repair if you go ahead, and phone keeps restarting is a good first read.
Turnaround, Warranty and Booking
In-store repairs are usually completed within one to three hours on the same day and you are welcome to wait. Mail-in repairs are typically finished within eight to twelve hours of arriving and returned by tracked delivery, most customers seeing their phone in two to three working days. Send-back postage is free and Klarna is available at checkout.
Every eligible repair includes a 12 month warranty on parts and labour whatever the age of the handset. Faults relating to our work are put right at no cost. New accidental damage, liquid damage and unrelated faults are excluded.
Book online through our Essex repair centre page, call 07939 990557, or contact us.
We also repair the Galaxy S20 Plus, Galaxy S20 Ultra and Galaxy S21, with the full range on our Samsung repairs page.
Galaxy S20 Repairs: Try This Before Booking
Can I improve S20 battery life without paying for a repair?
Yes, and it is worth trying first. Dropping the display from its high refresh setting back to standard makes a genuine difference on this generation and costs nothing. If that alone gets you through the day, you did not need us. If it makes no difference, a £55 cell almost certainly will.
Why was the standard S20 criticised for battery life?
It carried modest capacity for a handset driving a high refresh display, and less in reserve than the Plus or Ultra. Degradation therefore shows up sooner and bites harder. Years later that is the defining complaint about these phones, and at £55 the battery is also the cheapest thing to put right.
Is the S20 screen curved like the Ultra?
Yes, the whole S20 generation used curved displays. That is why these crack from the edge so readily: the glass wraps around the side, so a side impact lands on active screen rather than the metal frame. A case with a raised lip genuinely helps on this generation.
There is a green line down my S20 and I never dropped it. Why?
It is a known hardware failure on Galaxy AMOLED panels of this era rather than anything you did. It appears with no drop and no water, frequently just after a software update, and people wait months for a patch that was never coming. It widens over weeks and only a new panel resolves it.
Can one cracked camera lens be replaced on an S20?
The S20 uses a raised rectangular camera housing that makes contact first when the phone lands face up, and cracked cover glass over undamaged modules is common. That is far cheaper to fix than it appears. We always establish which you actually have rather than quoting for a module by default.
Is a Galaxy S20 still worth repairing?
On a battery, yes, and that is usually all these need. On a phone of this age and value we will be direct about whether anything larger adds up rather than taking your money to find out. Liquid damage in particular is often not economic, and we will say so straight away.
