iPhone 13 Pro Max Repairs: The Value Sweet Spot

If you asked us which iPhone represents the best value to keep running rather than replace, the 13 Pro Max would be near the top of the list. It was the first Pro Max with a 120Hz ProMotion display, it carried one of the largest batteries Apple has ever fitted, and parts have now dropped to the point where a screen is £149 and a battery £65.

Phones like this are why we push back when people assume a four year old handset is finished. Spend £65 on a battery and you have a device that will comfortably see out another two or three years. We carry out all of it at our Essex repair centre with a twelve month warranty.

Screen Replacement (£149)

A bonded OLED panel under Ceramic Shield glass, replaced as a complete assembly. This is the largest panel of its generation and remains an excellent display, which is worth remembering before writing the phone off over a crack.

• Cracks radiating from a corner or edge impact
• Unresponsive regions where touch no longer registers
• Green or pink vertical lines following a drop
• Dark bleeding that spreads across the panel over days
• Ghost touch inputs occurring unprompted

Before booking, check whether the phone still rings and vibrates with a black screen. That often means a dislodged display connector rather than a broken panel, and it costs considerably less to put right. We test for it first. Battery Replacement (£65)

This is the single most worthwhile thing you can do to a 13 Pro Max. These handsets are now four years old or thereabouts, which is comfortably past the point where capacity holds up, and owners routinely mistake a tired battery for a phone that has simply become slow and unreliable.

• Maximum capacity below 80 percent in Settings, Battery, Battery Health
• Sudden shutdowns with charge still on the meter, worse in cold weather
• Charge dropping in jumps rather than smoothly
• Warmth during undemanding use
• Endurance a fraction of what it was when new

Back Glass Replacement (£69)

Bonded rear glass, removed with a laser separator rather than heat and prying. This is a stainless steel frame generation, which holds heat differently to the titanium models that followed, and the job needs the right equipment regardless of the phone’s age.

• Loose fragments scratch the camera lenses from behind
• The moisture seal fails as soon as the glass cracks
• MagSafe and wireless charging turn intermittent
• Trade-in value drops by more than the repair costs

Charging Repair (£59)

This is a Lightning generation, and after four or more years of daily use the internal contacts have had a hard life. The classic failure is a cable that clicks in and feels perfectly secure while the electrical connection has become unreliable, so charging works when you hold the cable at an angle and stops when you let go.

Compacted lint is still the more common cause, though, and it accumulates over years in a narrow Lightning socket. On a phone this age it is often years of it. Camera Repair (£69)

The 13 Pro Max carried a large rear array that stands well proud of the body, so the outer lens cover takes the impact when the phone lands face up. Cover damage is much cheaper than a module, and we always establish which you have.

• Cracked lens cover with the module beneath undamaged
• Blurry images across every shooting mode after a drop
• Rattling or grinding as optical stabilisation fails
• Camera app opening black or crashing on launch
• Telephoto or ultra-wide dead while the main lens works

Face ID and Front Sensor Faults

The TrueDepth array behind the notch drives Face ID, and on handsets this age we see failures from both accumulated wear and old liquid ingress. Face ID that will not enrol a new face, fails repeatedly in dim light, or reports itself unavailable usually points there.

An honest caveat: Face ID is paired to the logic board at manufacture, so a damaged TrueDepth module cannot be replaced with one from another handset and made to work. A torn or disconnected flex cable is repairable. We diagnose which before quoting rather than charging you to find out.

Water Damage and Unexplained Faults

Liquid damage is assessed rather than quoted. On a phone this age we quite often find historic corrosion from an incident the owner had forgotten about, which is why opening it up is the only honest basis for a price. Anything else unclear carries a £15 diagnostic, deducted from the repair if you proceed. Phone keeps restarting and phone overheating are useful first reads.

Turnaround, Warranty and Booking

In-store repairs are usually completed within one to three hours on the same day and you are welcome to wait. Mail-in repairs are typically finished within eight to twelve hours of arriving and returned by tracked delivery, most customers seeing their phone in two to three working days. Every eligible repair includes a 12 month warranty on parts and labour, and that applies whether your phone is one year old or five. Faults relating to our work are put right at no cost. New accidental damage, liquid damage and unrelated faults are excluded.
