Galaxy S10 Plus Repairs from £49
The S10 Plus is a landmark phone. It was the first Galaxy with an ultrasonic fingerprint reader built into the display, and that single component causes more confusion on this model than anything else. Screen £169, back glass £49, camera £49, battery £49, charging £49.
All work is carried out at our Essex repair centre with a twelve month warranty on parts and labour, whatever the age of the handset.
The Ultrasonic Fingerprint Reader: Read This First
This is the section that saves S10 Plus owners the most money and frustration.
Unlike the optical readers used on most phones, the S10 uses an ultrasonic sensor that reads your fingerprint through the glass by sound rather than light. That has a practical consequence almost nobody is told: it is extremely sensitive to what sits between your finger and the sensor.
- Most standard tempered glass protectors stop it working reliably
- Cheap or thick protectors can stop it working entirely
- An air bubble under a protector will cause intermittent failures
- Wet or very dry fingers affect it more than an optical reader
- It needs protectors specifically sold as ultrasonic compatible
If your fingerprint reader has become unreliable, peel the screen protector off and test before you book anything with us. A very large proportion of the S10s brought to us for sensor faults simply have the wrong protector fitted, and that is a free fix you can do at home.
Galaxy S10 Plus Screen Replacement (£169)
A large curved AMOLED panel bonded beneath toughened glass, replaced as a complete assembly. At £169 this is the most expensive screen in the older Galaxy range we handle, and the ultrasonic sensor bonded into the display is precisely why: it is a more complex assembly than a conventional panel.
- Cracks running along or from a curved edge
- Dead zones where touch no longer registers
- Vertical green, pink or white lines down the panel
- Black or discoloured patches spreading over days
- The fingerprint reader failing after a screen impact
That last symptom is specific to this generation. Because the sensor sits within the display assembly, a cracked screen frequently takes fingerprint recognition with it even when the rest of the panel still works. If your reader stopped at the same moment your screen cracked, that is why. The vertical green line is a separate and well known Galaxy AMOLED failure that appears with no impact at all. Read phone screen flickering if that is what yours is doing, and see our Samsung screen repair page for the process.
Galaxy S10 Plus Battery Replacement (£49)
On a phone of this age this is the repair that decides whether it stays in service, and at £49 it is very good value for what it does.
- Capacity noticeably below where it started, under Settings then Battery and device care
- Lasting a few hours where it once managed a full day
- Sudden shutdowns with charge still displayed, worse in cold weather
- Charge dropping in large steps rather than smoothly
- The handset warm during light use
Eliminate software first, because replacing a healthy cell achieves nothing. Our guide on why a phone battery drains so fast covers the causes, and Samsung battery replacement lists pricing. If it runs hot, read phone overheating.
Galaxy S10 Plus Back Glass Replacement (£49)
Bonded rear glass removed with a laser separator rather than heat and prying tools. The wireless charging coil sits directly beneath and will not survive an improvised attempt.
- Loose fragments scratch the camera lenses from behind
- The moisture seal fails as soon as the glass cracks
- Wireless charging becomes unreliable
- Sharp edges are a genuine nuisance in daily use
Our cracked back glass guide explains why home kits cause more damage than they fix.
Galaxy S10 Plus Charging Repair (£49)
On a phone of this age expect a USB-C socket thoroughly packed with compacted lint, and it is frequently the whole problem rather than a failed port. Clearing it is not a chargeable repair here.
Genuine failure means charging at one angle only, cutting out when the phone moves, or a connector that feels loose. Try another cable and mains plug, then read why a phone will not charge. Our Samsung charging repair page covers the work.
Galaxy S10 Plus Camera Repair (£49)
The S10 Plus carries a horizontal rear array plus a dual front camera set into the punch-hole cutout, which was unusual at the time. Both are repairable and both are quoted at the same rate.
- Cracked lens cover with the modules beneath undamaged
- Blurry images across every shooting mode after a drop
- Rattling or grinding as optical stabilisation fails
- Camera app opening black or crashing on launch
- The front camera failing while the rear array works
Where nothing was dropped, phone camera not working covers the software checks worth trying first.
Water Damage and Whether It Is Worth Repairing
The S10 Plus has a water resistance rating, but on a phone this old the seals are long past their best and we would not rely on it. Ratings also cover fresh water rather than sea water, which matters anywhere near the coast.
Liquid damage is assessed rather than quoted, and on a handset of this age and value we will be direct about whether the repair adds up. Sometimes it does not, and when that is the case phone data recovery is usually the service that actually helps. See phone water damage repair for how we approach these. Anything else unclear carries a £15 diagnostic, deducted from the repair if you proceed, and phone keeps restarting is a good first read.
Turnaround, Warranty and Booking
In-store repairs are usually completed within one to three hours on the same day and you are welcome to wait. Mail-in repairs are typically finished within eight to twelve hours of arriving and returned tracked, most customers seeing their phone in two to three working days. Send-back postage is free and Klarna is available at checkout.
Every eligible repair includes a 12 month warranty on parts and labour, and an S10 Plus gets exactly the same cover as a current flagship. New accidental damage, liquid damage and unrelated faults are excluded.
Book online through our Essex repair centre page, call 07939 990557, or contact us.
We also repair the Galaxy S10, Galaxy S20 Plus and Galaxy S9 Plus, with the full range on our Samsung repairs page.
Galaxy S10 Plus Repairs: The Fingerprint Question
Why has my S10 Plus fingerprint reader stopped working properly?
Check your screen protector before anything else. The S10 uses an ultrasonic sensor that reads your fingerprint through the glass using sound rather than light, which makes it far more sensitive than an optical reader to whatever sits between finger and sensor. Most standard tempered glass protectors stop it working reliably, and cheap ones stop it entirely.
What screen protector works with the S10 Plus ultrasonic sensor?
Only ones specifically sold as ultrasonic compatible. Standard tempered glass, thick protectors and anything with an air bubble underneath will cause unreliable or intermittent readings. A very large proportion of the S10 handsets brought to us for sensor faults simply have the wrong protector fitted, and that is a free fix you can do at home.
Why is the S10 Plus screen the most expensive older Galaxy panel you fit?
At £169 it is dearer than newer models like the S20 and S21, and the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor bonded into the display is precisely why. It is a more complex assembly than a conventional panel, and that complexity is reflected in the part cost rather than the labour.
My S10 Plus fingerprint reader died when the screen cracked. Coincidence?
No, they are connected. The ultrasonic sensor sits within the display assembly, so a cracked screen frequently takes fingerprint recognition with it even where the rest of the panel still works. If both stopped at the same moment, that is why, and a single screen replacement resolves both.
Is an S10 Plus still worth repairing?
On a battery at £49, yes, and that is usually all they need. The £169 screen is a genuine decision on a phone of this age, and we will give you an honest view on the handset's value before you commit rather than simply taking the booking. Liquid damage is where it clearly stops adding up.
Can you repair the front camera on an S10 Plus?
Yes. The S10 Plus has a dual front camera set into the punch-hole cutout, which was unusual at the time, and it is repairable at the same £49 rate as the rear array. A front camera failing while the rear works normally is a common enough fault and worth diagnosing rather than assuming the worst.
