Galaxy A70 Repairs from £55

The A70 was Samsung’s big-screen mid-ranger, and big is the word. It had one of the largest displays available at its price when it launched, and people bought it specifically for that. Screen £79, and rear panel, camera, battery and charging all £55.

That large screen shapes both how the phone breaks and how it is used. These are two-handed devices, and the drops that damage them tend to happen mid-task from standing height rather than out of a pocket.

A large display needs a large battery, and the A70 had one. Owners got used to genuinely good endurance, which makes the decline feel steeper than it does on a phone that was never impressive to begin with.

Galaxy A70 Screen Replacement (£79)

A large Super AMOLED panel bonded beneath toughened glass, replaced as a complete assembly. Larger displays flex more across their length during an impact, which is why A70 screens frequently crack from an edge rather than the corner smaller phones land on.

• Cracks running from an edge or corner impact
• Dead zones where touch no longer registers
• Vertical green, pink or white lines down the panel
• Black or discoloured patches spreading over days
• The fingerprint reader failing after a screen impact

The A70 uses an under-display fingerprint reader, so a cracked panel often takes fingerprint recognition with it even where touch still works, and one repair resolves both. Why Big Phones Break Differently

Worth knowing if the A70 is your first large handset, because the damage pattern genuinely differs from a smaller phone.

• A longer chassis flexes more, which is why edge cracks are common

On a phone of this age expect a USB-C socket well packed with compacted lint, which is frequently the entire problem rather than a failed port. Clearing it is not a chargeable repair here.

Is an A70 Still Worth Repairing?

An honest answer, because on a phone of this age it is a real question rather than a formality.

A £55 battery on an A70 that is otherwise sound is straightforward. The screen is still large and still good, the phone still does everything most people need, and no cheap modern replacement will feel like an upgrade. A £79 screen on a handset with no other faults is also reasonable.

Where it stops adding up is a phone wanting a screen, a battery and a charging port together, which starts to approach what a decent replacement would cost. It is also worth checking under Settings, Software update whether yours still receives security patches, because a phone that has fallen off the list is fine for calls and photographs but will gradually lose banking apps.

Water Damage and Unclear Faults

The A70 has no water resistance rating, so treat it as completely unsealed. It also has a headphone socket, which is a direct opening into the chassis and a common route for liquid.
