The original Google Pixel from 2016 is the oldest handset we repair, and the phone that started the line. It has a headphone socket, a rear fingerprint sensor and a compact body that most people can still use one-handed.

Is the original Google Pixel still worth repairing?

We will be honest with you, because on a phone approaching a decade old that matters more than a price list.

The original Pixel stopped receiving Android updates a long time ago. Many apps will no longer install on it, banking apps will almost certainly refuse, and it should not be used for anything sensitive online. What it still does perfectly well is make calls, send messages, play music and take photographs.

• A £55 battery on a working Pixel is worth doing if you want to keep using it
• A charging fault is worth checking, because it is usually just lint and free to resolve
• A £75 screen is a genuine decision on a phone of this age and value
• Two repairs together does not add up on an original Pixel
• Liquid damage is not economic to repair

If the phone is a spare, a music player, a camera or a first handset for a child, keeping it going for £55 makes complete sense. If it needs several things at once we will tell you plainly that the money is better spent elsewhere, and offer to get the data off instead.

How much is an original Google Pixel battery replacement?

An original Google Pixel battery replacement costs £55 at iExpert Repairs. On a phone this old it is almost always the only repair worth doing, and it is what brings the handset back to something usable.

• Capacity noticeably below where it started, shown under Settings, Battery
• Lasting only an hour or two on ordinary use
• Shutting down without warning, particularly in cold weather
• Charge collapsing in very large steps
• The phone feeling extremely slow as well as short on charge

That last symptom is the one that sends working phones to landfill. A degraded battery causes the system to throttle performance to avoid shutdowns, so the phone feels finished rather than merely tired. How much does an original Google Pixel screen replacement cost?

An original Google Pixel screen replacement costs £75 at iExpert Repairs. It is an OLED panel bonded beneath toughened glass and replaced as a complete assembly, because the glass and display cannot be separated.

• Cracks radiating from a corner or edge impact
• Dead zones where the touchscreen no longer registers
• Green, pink or white vertical lines down the panel
• Black or discoloured patches spreading over several days
• A faint permanent ghost of the navigation bar, which is screen burn

Screen burn is close to universal on OLED panels this old. It is not damage, cannot be repaired, and only a new panel clears it. Plenty of owners live with it quite happily rather than spend £75, and we will say so honestly if that is all yours has. See our Google Pixel screen repair page.

Can you still get parts for the original Google Pixel?

Yes. We can still source screens, batteries, cameras and charging ports for the original Pixel, which is not true of every 2016 handset. Availability does vary, so it is worth contacting us before planning a repair rather than assuming, and every repair still carries our full 12 month warranty on parts and labour.

Older phones are work a lot of shops turn away entirely. We take them on, and a phone from 2016 gets exactly the same cover as a current flagship.

Can you repair the headphone socket on a Google Pixel?

Yes. The original Pixel has a headphone socket, and after this many years a crackly one is usually just full of pocket lint rather than genuinely broken.

• A socket gone crackly, or quiet on one side
• Plugs that no longer click in securely
• Audio cutting out when the cable is moved
• The phone not detecting headphones being plugged in at all

Try a different pair of headphones first to rule out the cable, then bring it in. Cleaning is not a chargeable repair here.

Why is my Google Pixel not charging?

Most original Google Pixel handsets that will not charge do not need a new port. On a phone approaching a decade old, expect a USB-C socket completely packed with compacted lint, and clearing that is not a chargeable repair at iExpert Repairs. A genuine Pixel charging port repair costs £55.

Can you recover photos from an old Google Pixel?

Usually, and on a phone this old it is very often the service that genuinely helps rather than a repair.

Handsets from 2016 predate universal cloud backup, so they are the most likely of any phone to be carrying photographs that exist nowhere else. If your Pixel has stopped working and what you actually want is the contents rather than the handset, say so and we will approach it that way. How long does a Google Pixel repair take?

Most Google Pixel repairs are completed within one to three hours in store on the same day, and you are welcome to wait. Mail-in repairs are typically finished within eight to twelve hours of arriving and returned by tracked delivery, with most customers receiving the phone within two to three working days.
