Galaxy A01 Core Repairs from £39

The A01 Core is the most basic phone Samsung has ever put on sale in the UK, and it carries the cheapest repair on our entire list. Rear panel £39, camera £39, battery £45, charging £49, screen £55.

Worth knowing that this is not simply a cut-down A01. It is a different phone running a different version of Android, and that distinction explains most of what people ring us about.

It Runs Android Go, Not Ordinary Android

The A01 Core ships with the lightweight edition of Android built for devices with very little memory, and understanding that saves a lot of wasted money.

• It runs stripped-down versions of apps designed for minimal memory
• Some ordinary Play Store apps will simply refuse to install
• Multitasking is deliberately limited, so apps reload rather than staying open
• It is slow by design rather than because something is broken
• Storage fills extremely quickly and slows the phone further

People bring these to us convinced something has failed when the phone is behaving exactly as built. If yours is sluggish, closes apps in the background, or refuses to install something, that is the platform rather than a fault. We will tell you that rather than selling you a repair that cannot change it.

What Is Actually Worth Repairing

On the cheapest phone we handle, the honest answer needs stating plainly.

• A £45 battery on a working A01 Core is worth doing and makes a genuine difference
• A charging fault is worth checking, because it is usually lint and free to sort
• A £55 screen costs more than most A01 Core handsets are worth second hand
• Any two repairs together does not add up on this phone
• Liquid damage is not economic to repair

The exception, as always, is data. If the phone holds photographs that exist nowhere else, a repair can be worth doing purely to reach them. We will tell you when that is the case and when recovering the data on its own would cost you less.

Galaxy A01 Core Battery Replacement (£45)

The repair worth having, and nearly always the only one. Original cells in these are long past their useful life.

• Capacity noticeably below where it started, under Settings then Battery
• Lasting only an hour or two on ordinary use
• Shutting down without warning, particularly in cold weather
• Charge collapsing in very large steps
• The phone barely holding charge overnight while idle

Note that general slowness on an A01 Core is not a battery symptom, for the reasons above. If the phone is slow but holds charge, a new cell will change nothing and we will say so. Galaxy A01 Core Charging Repair (£49)

Check this before anything, because it often costs nothing. Compacted lint in the charging socket stops the cable seating and accounts for most of the A01 Core handsets brought to us as charging faults. Clearing it is not a chargeable repair.

Then change the cable and mains plug. This phone uses the older micro USB connector, which wears faster than USB-C because the plug only fits one way and gets forced. A worn cable causes more of these faults than a broken port does. Genuine failure means charging at one angle only, cutting out when the phone moves, or a loose connector. Galaxy A01 Core Screen Replacement (£55)

An LCD panel bonded beneath toughened glass, replaced as a complete assembly. This is the repair to think about hardest, because £55 is genuinely more than many of these phones fetch used.

• Cracks radiating from a corner or edge impact
• Dead zones where touch no longer registers
• White or bright blotches rather than black bleeding
• Backlight failure, leaving a faint image visible under a torch
• Ghost touches occurring with nobody holding the phone

Shine a torch at it before deciding. If the phone looks completely dead but the home screen is faintly visible under bright light, the handset is working and only the backlight has failed. Galaxy A01 Core Rear Panel Replacement (£39)

At £39 this is the cheapest repair we offer on any phone. The panel is a plain composite rather than glass, which cracks or scuffs rather than shattering, and it is easily the most forgiving rear panel in the Samsung range.

• Cracks and deep scuffs rather than spidering across the whole back
• Debris able to reach the camera lens from behind
• Sharp edges where a panel has split
• Panels lifting at a corner after a hard drop

Galaxy A01 Core Camera Repair (£39)

A single basic rear camera, which keeps this as cheap as repairs get.

• Cracked lens cover with the module beneath undamaged
• Blurry images, which is very often just a dirty lens
• Camera app opening black or crashing on launch
• Focus struggling in anything other than good light
• The camera app very slow to open, which on Android Go is normal rather than faulty

Water Damage and Getting Your Photos Back

The A01 Core has no water resistance at all. Liquid damage on one is not economic to repair and you will hear that from us straight away rather than after paying a diagnostic fee.

Phone data recovery is what genuinely helps. Phones at this end of the market are consistently the ones holding photographs that exist nowhere else, because their owners are the least likely to be paying for cloud storage, and those pictures are worth far more than the handset. Turnaround, Warranty and Booking

In-store repairs are usually completed within one to three hours on the same day and you are welcome to wait. Mail-in repairs are typically finished within eight to twelve hours of arriving and returned tracked, most customers seeing their phone in two to three working days. Send-back postage is free.

Every eligible repair includes a 12 month warranty on parts and labour. The cheapest phone on our list gets exactly the same twelve months as a folding flagship costing thirty times as much, and that is deliberate. New accidental damage, liquid damage and unrelated faults are excluded.
