Galaxy A01 Repairs from £45
The A01 is a small, very basic phone from the bottom of Samsung’s range, and there are still plenty about. Screen £55, and rear panel, camera, battery and charging all £45.
It is worth saying up front that this is an old, cheap handset with no software support left. It still makes calls, sends messages and takes photographs perfectly well, and a great many A01s are doing exactly that as spares, work phones and first phones for children. Whether it is worth spending money on comes down entirely to what has gone wrong.
Repair Advice on a Phone This Cheap
Here is where we genuinely stand, rather than a list of prices with no context.
- A £45 battery on a working A01 is worth doing and makes a real difference
- A charging fault is worth checking, because it is usually lint and free to resolve
- A £55 screen is more than many A01s are worth, so it needs thinking about
- Any two repairs together does not add up on this model
- Liquid damage is not economic to repair on an A01
The one exception is data. If the phone holds photographs or messages that exist nowhere else, a repair can be worth doing purely to reach them, even when it makes no sense as a phone. We will tell you when that applies, and when recovering the data on its own would cost you less.
Galaxy A01 Battery Replacement (£45)
The repair worth having, and almost always the only one an A01 needs.
- Capacity noticeably below where it started, under Settings then Battery and device care
- Lasting only an hour or two on ordinary use
- Shutting down without warning, particularly in cold weather
- Charge collapsing in very large steps
- The phone feeling extremely slow as well as short on charge
Slowness on an A01 is essentially always memory and storage rather than the battery. This phone has very little of either and grinds to a halt once it is close to full, whatever the cell is doing. Move photographs off, delete anything you do not use, and restart it properly. That resolves the complaint far more often than a new battery would. Our guide on why a phone battery drains so fast covers the rest, and Samsung battery replacement lists pricing.
Galaxy A01 Screen Replacement (£55)
An LCD panel bonded beneath toughened glass, replaced as a complete assembly. This is the repair to weigh carefully on an A01.
- Cracks radiating from a corner or edge impact
- Dead zones where touch no longer registers
- White or bright blotches rather than black bleeding
- Backlight failure, leaving a faint image visible under a torch
- Ghost touches occurring with nobody holding the phone
Shine a torch at it before deciding anything. If the phone looks completely dead but the home screen is faintly visible under bright light, the handset works and only the backlight has failed. Your photographs and messages are all intact and can be retrieved whether or not you go ahead with a repair. For faults with no impact behind them, read phone screen flickering, and see our Samsung screen repair page.
Galaxy A01 Charging Repair (£45)
Check this before anything else, because it very often costs nothing. Compacted lint in the charging socket stops the cable seating properly and it is behind most of the A01 handsets brought to us as charging faults. Clearing it is not a chargeable repair.
Then change the cable and mains plug. The A01 uses the older micro USB connector, which wears faster than USB-C because the plug only fits one way round and gets forced in the dark. A worn cable is the commonest cause of all. Read why a phone will not charge, and our Samsung charging repair page covers the replacement.
Galaxy A01 Rear Panel Replacement (£45)
A composite rear panel rather than glass, which cracks or scuffs rather than shattering. On a small cheap phone that gets handled roughly, it is the sensible material and it holds up well.
- Cracks and deep scuffs rather than spidering across the whole back
- Debris able to reach the camera lens from behind
- Sharp edges where a panel has split
- Panels lifting at a corner after a hard drop
Our cracked back glass guide covers bonded rear panels generally.
Galaxy A01 Camera Repair (£45)
A simple rear camera arrangement, which keeps repairs cheap and quick.
- Cracked lens cover with the module beneath undamaged
- Blurry images, which is very often just a dirty lens
- Camera app opening black or crashing on launch
- Focus hunting continuously without settling
- The camera app extremely slow to open, which here is nearly always memory
Clean the lens and clear background apps before booking anything. Where nothing was dropped, phone camera not working covers the software checks.
Water Damage and Getting Your Photos Back
The A01 has no water resistance whatever. Liquid damage on one is not economic to repair and we will say so immediately rather than charging you a diagnostic to reach the same answer.
Phone data recovery is what actually helps in that situation. Cheap phones are consistently the ones carrying photographs that exist nowhere else, because their owners are the least likely to be paying for cloud backup. See phone water damage repair for how we assess these. Anything else unclear carries a £15 diagnostic, deducted from the repair if you proceed, and phone keeps restarting is a good first read.
Turnaround, Warranty and Booking
In-store repairs are usually completed within one to three hours on the same day and you are welcome to wait. Mail-in repairs are typically finished within eight to twelve hours of arriving and returned tracked, most customers seeing their phone in two to three working days. Send-back postage is free.
Every eligible repair includes a 12 month warranty on parts and labour, the same cover we put on the most expensive phone we handle. New accidental damage, liquid damage and unrelated faults are excluded.
Book online through our Essex repair centre page, call 07939 990557, or contact us.
We also repair the Galaxy A01 Core, Galaxy A02 and Galaxy A10, with the full range on our Samsung repairs page.
Galaxy A01 Repairs: Small Phone, Honest Advice
Is a Galaxy A01 worth repairing?
On a £45 battery, if you want to keep using it, yes. A charging fault is worth checking because it is usually just lint and free. A £55 screen is more than many A01s are worth, so it needs thought. Any two repairs together does not add up, and liquid damage is not economic on this model.
Why does my A01 charging cable feel loose?
The A01 uses the older micro USB connector, which wears faster than USB-C because the plug only fits one way round and gets forced in the dark. Combine that with years of compacted lint and you have the two most common causes. Change the cable first, because a worn one is the likeliest culprit and it costs almost nothing.
My A01 screen has gone black. Is the phone finished?
Check with a torch before deciding. If the home screen is faintly visible under a bright light, the backlight has failed rather than the handset, and your photographs and messages are all intact and retrievable whether or not you repair it. That check regularly saves phones at this end of the market.
Why is my A01 so slow?
Memory and storage rather than anything broken. The A01 has very little of both and grinds to a halt once close to full, regardless of the battery. Move photographs off, delete anything you do not use and restart it properly. That resolves the complaint far more often than a new battery would.
What if my A01 has photos I need but will not switch on?
Then a repair can be worth doing purely to reach them, even when it makes no sense as a phone. We will also tell you when recovering the data on its own would cost you less. That is the one exception where spending on a handset like this is straightforwardly the right call.
Does a cheap phone get the same warranty?
Yes, exactly the same 12 month cover on parts and labour as the most expensive phone we handle. The parts cost less because the components cost less, not because the workmanship or the guarantee changes. We do not run a lower tier of service for cheaper handsets.
