Galaxy A02 Repairs from £45

The A02 is one of the two cheapest phones on our entire repair list. Screen £49, and rear panel, camera, battery and charging all £45.

At those numbers the arithmetic is unavoidable, and we are not going to dance around it. A screen replacement on an A02 costs roughly what the phone is worth second hand. That does not automatically mean it is the wrong choice, but it does mean you deserve a straight answer rather than a booking form.

When an A02 Repair Makes Sense, and When It Does Not

Our genuine view, fault by fault.

• A £45 battery on a working A02 is worth doing and makes a real difference
• A charging problem is worth checking, because it is usually lint and free to fix
• A £49 screen is a judgement call against the cost of a used replacement
• Two repairs together does not add up on this handset
• Liquid damage is not economic to repair on an A02

There is one exception worth knowing. If the phone holds photographs or messages you have not backed up, repairing it can be worth doing purely to get at them, even when it makes no sense as a phone. We will tell you if that is the situation, and we will also tell you when data recovery alone would be cheaper.

Galaxy A02 Battery Replacement (£45)

This is the repair worth having on an A02 and nearly always the only one. Original cells are years past their useful life by now.

• Capacity noticeably below where it started, under Settings then Battery and device care
• Lasting only an hour or two on ordinary use
• Shutting down without warning, particularly in cold weather
• Charge collapsing in very large steps
• The phone feeling extremely slow as well as short on charge

That last symptom is almost certainly storage and memory on an A02 rather than the battery. This phone shipped with very little of both and crawls once it is nearly full, regardless of the cell. Move your photographs off, delete apps you never open, and restart it properly before spending anything. On phones this basic that alone fixes the complaint remarkably often. Galaxy A02 Screen Replacement (£49)

An LCD panel bonded beneath toughened glass, replaced as a complete assembly.

• Cracks radiating from a corner or edge impact
• Dead zones where touch no longer registers
• White or bright blotches rather than black bleeding
• Backlight failure, leaving a faint image visible under a torch
• Ghost touches occurring with nobody holding the phone

Before you decide anything at all, shine a torch at it. If the phone appears completely dead but the home screen is faintly visible under bright light, the handset is working perfectly and only the backlight has failed. Everything on it is intact. Galaxy A02 Charging Repair (£45)

Start here, because this is the repair most likely to cost you nothing whatsoever. Compacted lint in the charging socket stops the cable seating fully and it is behind most of the A02 handsets brought to us as charging faults. Clearing it is not a chargeable repair.

Then change the cable and the mains plug. Worn cheap cables cause more of these faults than broken ports do, and on a phone at this price paying for a port repair when a new cable would have done it is a genuinely bad outcome. Real failure means charging that works only at one angle, cuts out when the phone is moved, or a connector that feels loose. Galaxy A02 Rear Panel Replacement (£45)

A composite rear panel rather than glass, which cracks or scuffs rather than shattering into fragments. It is the right material for a phone like this and plenty of A02 handsets still wear their originals.

• Cracks and deep scuffs rather than spidering across the whole back
• Debris able to reach the camera lens from behind
• Sharp edges where a panel has split
• Panels lifting at a corner after a hard drop

Galaxy A02 Camera Repair (£45)

A simple rear camera, which keeps this quick and cheap.

• Cracked lens cover with the module beneath undamaged
• Blurry images, which is very often just a dirty lens
• Camera app opening black or crashing on launch
• Focus hunting continuously without settling
• The camera app extremely slow to open, which here is nearly always memory

Water Damage and Getting Your Photos Back

The A02 has no water resistance at all. Liquid damage on one is not economic to repair and you will hear that from us immediately rather than after paying a diagnostic fee.

What is genuinely worth doing is phone data recovery. Phones at this price are the ones most likely to be carrying photographs that exist nowhere else, because their owners are the least likely to be paying for cloud storage. Turnaround, Warranty and Booking

In-store repairs are usually completed within one to three hours on the same day and you are welcome to wait. Mail-in repairs are typically finished within eight to twelve hours of arriving and returned tracked, most customers seeing their phone in two to three working days. Send-back postage is free.

Every eligible repair includes a 12 month warranty on parts and labour. The cheapest phone on this list gets exactly the same twelve months as the most expensive, and we think that says something worth saying. New accidental damage, liquid damage and unrelated faults are excluded.
