Galaxy A03 Repairs from £45
The A03 is one of the most basic phones Samsung sells and it does exactly what it was designed to do. Screen £59, and rear panel, camera, battery and charging all £45.
The A03 and A03s Are Not the Same Phone
Worth settling before anything else, because the names are almost identical and the phones are not.
The A03s has a fingerprint sensor. The A03 does not have one at all, and relies on face unlock and a PIN instead. They also take different display assemblies and different rear panels, so a quote for one is meaningless for the other.
- Check Settings, then About phone, and read the full model number
- If yours has a fingerprint reader, you have an A03s
- The two use different screens at different prices
- Rear panels and camera arrangements differ as well
- Bring it in if you are unsure and we will identify it in seconds
If your A03 has stopped unlocking by face, nothing has broken. Face unlock on this model uses the ordinary front camera rather than any dedicated sensor, so it struggles in dim light, with glasses, or when the lens is smudged. Clean the front camera and try again in better light before assuming a fault.
What Is Worth Repairing on an A03
On a phone at this price the honest answer depends entirely on the fault, so here it is plainly.
- A £45 battery on an otherwise sound A03 is worth doing and transforms it
- A charging fault is worth checking, because it is usually just lint and free to sort
- A £59 screen is close to what the phone is worth, so weigh it properly
- Two repairs together rarely adds up on this model
- Liquid damage is not economic to repair on an A03
One fault, bring it in and we will sort it the same day. Several faults, and we will tell you the money is better spent on a replacement, then help you get the data off this one. That conversation matters more at this end of the market than the booking does.
Galaxy A03 Battery Replacement (£45)
This is the repair worth having and usually the only one the phone needs.
- Capacity noticeably below where it started, under Settings then Battery and device care
- Lasting only a few hours on ordinary use
- Shutting down without warning, particularly in cold weather
- Charge collapsing in large steps
- The phone feeling very slow as well as short on charge
That slowness is nearly always storage and memory on an A03 rather than the battery. The phone shipped with very little of either and crawls once it is close to full, whatever the cell is doing. Move photographs off it, delete apps you never open, and restart properly before assuming hardware. Our guide on why a phone battery drains so fast covers the rest, and Samsung battery replacement lists pricing.
Galaxy A03 Screen Replacement (£59)
An LCD panel bonded beneath toughened glass, replaced as a complete assembly.
- Cracks radiating from a corner or edge impact
- Dead zones where touch no longer registers
- White or bright blotches rather than black bleeding
- Backlight failure, leaving a faint image visible under a torch
- Ghost touches occurring with nobody holding the phone
Do the torch test before you write the phone off. If it looks completely dead but the home screen is faintly visible under a bright light, the handset is working and only the backlight has failed. Everything on it is intact and recoverable whether or not you repair it. For faults with no impact behind them, read phone screen flickering, and see our Samsung screen repair page.
Galaxy A03 Charging Repair (£45)
Start here, because it is the repair most likely to cost nothing. Compacted lint in the charging socket stops the cable seating and accounts for most of the A03 handsets brought to us as charging faults. Clearing it is not chargeable.
Then change the cable and mains plug. Worn cheap cables cause more of these than broken ports do. Genuine failure means charging that works only at one angle, cuts out when the phone moves, or a connector that feels loose. Read why a phone will not charge, and our Samsung charging repair page covers the replacement.
Galaxy A03 Rear Panel Replacement (£45)
A composite rear panel rather than glass, which cracks or scuffs rather than shattering into fragments.
- Cracks and deep scuffs rather than spidering across the whole back
- Debris able to reach the camera lens from behind
- Sharp edges where a panel has split
- Panels lifting at a corner after a hard drop
Our cracked back glass guide covers bonded rear panels generally.
Galaxy A03 Camera Repair (£45)
A simple rear camera. Clean the lens before booking, because a smeared lens explains a good share of the blurry photograph complaints on phones like this.
- Cracked lens cover with the module beneath undamaged
- Blurry images, which is very often just a dirty lens
- Camera app opening black or crashing on launch
- Focus hunting continuously without settling
- The front camera failing, which also stops face unlock working
Where nothing was dropped, phone camera not working covers the software checks.
Water Damage and Getting Your Photos Back
The A03 has no water resistance at all. Liquid damage on one is not economic to repair and we will say so immediately rather than charging you to find out.
Phone data recovery is what genuinely helps in that situation, because cheap phones are very often the ones holding photographs that exist nowhere else. See phone water damage repair for how we assess these. Anything else unclear carries a £15 diagnostic, deducted from the repair if you proceed, and phone keeps restarting is a good first read.
Turnaround, Warranty and Booking
In-store repairs are usually completed within one to three hours on the same day and you are welcome to wait. Mail-in repairs are typically finished within eight to twelve hours of arriving and returned tracked, most customers seeing their phone in two to three working days. Send-back postage is free.
Every eligible repair includes a 12 month warranty on parts and labour, the same cover as the most expensive phone we handle. New accidental damage, liquid damage and unrelated faults are excluded.
Book online through our Essex repair centre page, call 07939 990557, or contact us.
We also repair the Galaxy A03s, Galaxy A02 and Galaxy A04e, with the full range on our Samsung repairs page.
Galaxy A03 Repairs: A03 or A03s?
What is the difference between the Galaxy A03 and A03s?
The A03s has a fingerprint sensor and the A03 does not have one at all. They also take different display assemblies and rear panels despite the almost identical names, so a repair quote for one is meaningless for the other. If yours has a fingerprint reader, you have an A03s. Check Settings, then About phone, to be certain.
My A03 has stopped unlocking by face. Is something broken?
Probably not. Face unlock on the A03 uses the ordinary front camera rather than any dedicated sensor, so it struggles in dim light, with glasses, or when the lens is smudged. Clean the front camera and try again in better light before assuming a fault. There is no fingerprint sensor on this model to fall back on.
Is a £59 screen worth it on an A03?
It is close to what the phone is worth used, so it needs proper thought rather than an automatic yes. A £45 battery is the easier call and usually all these need. If yours wants a screen and a battery together we will tell you plainly that the money is better spent on a replacement.
My A03 screen is dead but the phone is not. How can I tell?
Shine a torch at the display. If the home screen is faintly visible, the backlight has failed rather than the handset, and all your photographs and messages are intact. That is a screen replacement rather than a dead phone, and it is worth ruling out before giving up on it.
Why is my A03 so slow?
Storage and memory rather than a fault. It shipped with very little of both, and once close to full it crawls regardless of battery health. Delete what you can, move photographs off and restart it properly. On a phone this basic that makes more difference than any repair would, and it costs nothing.
Do budget phones get the same warranty as expensive ones?
Yes. Every eligible repair carries the same 12 month cover on parts and labour whether the phone cost £100 or £1,500. The parts cost less because the components cost less, not because the workmanship or the guarantee is any different.
