The A03s is a genuinely cheap phone that sold in large numbers, mostly as a first handset, a spare, or something dependable for someone who does not want a complicated device. Screen £59, and rear panel, camera, battery and charging all £45.

It is now several years old and no longer receiving updates. It still works perfectly well for calls, messages, photographs and music, which is exactly what most A03s owners want from it.

What Is Worth Repairing on an A03s

On a phone of this value the honest answer varies by fault, so we will give it plainly rather than quoting for everything.

• A £45 battery on an otherwise sound A03s is worth doing and makes a real difference
• A charging fault is worth checking, because it is usually just lint and costs nothing
• A £59 screen is close to what the phone is worth, so think about it properly
• Two repairs together rarely adds up on this model
• Liquid damage is not economic to repair on an A03s

Galaxy A03s Battery Replacement (£45)

This is the repair worth having, and usually the only one an A03s needs. Original cells are years past their useful life.

• Capacity noticeably below where it started, under Settings then Battery and device care
• Lasting only a few hours on ordinary use
• Shutting down without warning, particularly in cold weather
• Charge collapsing in large steps
• The phone feeling very slow as well as short on charge

On an A03s that slowness is nearly always storage and memory rather than the battery. This phone shipped with very little of both, and once it is close to full it will crawl regardless of the cell. Galaxy A03s Screen Replacement (£59)

An LCD panel bonded beneath toughened glass, replaced as a complete assembly.

• Cracks radiating from a corner or edge impact
• Dead zones where touch no longer registers
• White or bright blotches rather than black bleeding
• Backlight failure, leaving a faint image visible under a torch
• Ghost touches occurring with nobody holding the phone

Do the torch test before deciding anything. If the phone looks completely dead but the home screen is faintly visible under a bright light, the handset is working and only the backlight has failed. Galaxy A03s Charging Repair (£45)

Start here, because this is the repair most likely to cost you nothing. Compacted lint in the charging socket stops the cable seating fully and it accounts for most of the A03s handsets brought to us as charging faults. Clearing it is not a chargeable repair.

After that, change the cable and the mains plug before anything else. Worn cheap cables cause more of these faults than broken ports do, and on phones at this price people regularly pay for repairs they never needed. A textured composite rear panel rather than glass, which cracks or scuffs rather than shattering into fragments. On a phone that frequently ends up in a child’s hands, that is precisely the right material.

• Cracks and deep scuffs rather than spidering across the whole back
• Debris able to reach the camera lenses from behind
• Sharp edges where a panel has split
• Panels lifting at a corner after a hard drop

Galaxy A03s Camera Repair (£45)

A simple rear camera arrangement, which keeps repairs cheap and diagnosis straightforward.

• Cracked lens cover with the module beneath undamaged
• Blurry images, which is very often just a dirty lens
• Camera app opening black or crashing on launch
• Focus hunting continuously without settling
• The camera app very slow to open, which here is almost always memory

Water Damage and Getting Your Photos Back

The A03s has no water resistance whatever. Liquid damage on one is not economic to repair, and we will say so immediately rather than charging you a diagnostic to reach the same answer.

What is worth doing is phone data recovery. Cheap phones are very often the ones holding photographs that exist nowhere else, because their owners are the least likely to be paying for cloud storage. In-store repairs are usually completed within one to three hours on the same day and you are welcome to wait. Mail-in repairs are typically finished within eight to twelve hours of arriving and returned tracked, most customers seeing their phone in two to three working days. Send-back postage is free.
