Galaxy A04s Repairs from £45

The A04s is a step up from the A04e and a genuinely sensible cheap phone. Screen £59, and rear panel, camera, battery and charging all £45, which is among the lowest pricing on our list.

Check which A04 you have before ringing round anywhere. The A04e, A04s and plain A04 are three different phones with three different parts despite nearly identical names, and a quote for one is meaningless for another. Settings, then About phone, settles it in seconds.

Galaxy A04s Battery Replacement (£45)

At £45 this is among the cheapest battery replacements we do, and on an A04s it is nearly always the repair worth having.

• Capacity noticeably below where it started, under Settings then Battery and device care
• Not lasting the day where it once managed comfortably
• Shutting down without warning, particularly in cold weather
• Charge collapsing in large steps rather than dropping smoothly
• The phone feeling slow as well as short on charge

That last one is worth pausing on. Slowness on an A04s is far more often storage than battery, because the phone has limited space and fills up fast. A nearly full handset crawls whatever the cell is doing. Move your photographs off, delete apps you never open, restart properly, and see whether it improves. Galaxy A04s Screen Replacement (£59)

An LCD panel bonded beneath toughened glass, replaced as a complete assembly. On a phone at this price a screen is the repair worth thinking about properly rather than agreeing to automatically.

• Cracks radiating from a corner or edge impact
• Dead zones where touch no longer registers
• White or bright blotches rather than black bleeding
• Backlight failure, leaving a faint image visible under a torch
• Ghost touches occurring with nobody holding the phone

Try the torch test first. If the A04s looks completely dead but the home screen is faintly visible under bright light, the phone works and only the backlight has failed. Galaxy A04s Charging Repair (£45)

Check this before anything else, because it frequently costs nothing. Compacted lint in the charging socket stops the cable seating fully and accounts for most of the charging faults we see on budget handsets. Clearing it is not a chargeable repair here.

Then change the cable and mains plug, because worn cheap cables cause more of these problems than failed ports do. Genuine failure means charging that works only at a particular angle, cuts out when the phone is moved, or a connector that feels loose in the socket. Galaxy A04s Rear Panel Replacement (£45)

A textured composite rear panel rather than glass, which cracks or scuffs rather than shattering into fragments. On a phone that often ends up as a child’s first handset, that is exactly the right material.

• Cracks and deep scuffs rather than spidering across the whole back
• Debris able to reach the camera lenses from behind
• Sharp edges where a panel has split
• Panels lifting at a corner after a hard drop

A simple rear camera arrangement set into the panel, which keeps repairs cheap and damage contained.

• Cracked lens cover with the module beneath undamaged
• Blurry images, which is very frequently just a dirty lens
• Camera app opening black or crashing on launch
• Focus hunting continuously without settling
• The camera app slow to open, which on this phone is nearly always memory

Is It Worth Repairing an A04s?

On a phone at this price the answer genuinely depends on what has gone wrong, so here is our honest position rather than a sales pitch.

• A £45 battery on an otherwise sound A04s is worth doing without hesitation
• A charging fault is worth checking, because it is very often free to resolve
• A £59 screen is a judgement call against what a replacement handset would cost
• A screen and a battery together starts to approach the price of a used replacement
• Three faults at once does not add up on this model

Water Damage and Data Recovery

The A04s has no water resistance at all. Liquid damage on one is rarely economic to repair, and we will tell you that straight away rather than charging you to reach the same conclusion.

What is genuinely worth doing is phone data recovery. Budget phones are very often the ones carrying photographs that exist nowhere else, because their owners are least likely to be paying for cloud backup.
