Galaxy A02s Repairs from £45

The A02s was a budget phone even when new, and it sold in real numbers to people who wanted something straightforward and cheap. Screen £55, and rear panel, camera, battery and charging all £45.

It is now old, no longer updated, and worth very little. It still works as a phone, and a lot of A02s handsets are quietly getting on with being second phones and first phones for children.

The Honest Repair Advice on an A02s

At this price the sums matter more than anywhere else on our list, so here is where we actually stand.

• A £45 battery on a working A02s is worth doing and makes a genuine difference
• A charging fault is worth checking, because it is usually lint and costs nothing
• A £55 screen is roughly what the phone is worth, so it is a real decision
• Any two repairs together does not add up on this handset
• Liquid damage is not economic to repair

Galaxy A02s Battery Replacement (£45)

The repair worth having, and nearly always the only one an A02s needs. Original cells are long past their useful life.

• Capacity noticeably below where it started, under Settings then Battery and device care
• Lasting only an hour or two on ordinary use
• Shutting down without warning, particularly in cold weather
• Charge collapsing in very large steps
• The phone feeling extremely slow as well as short on charge

On an A02s that slowness is almost certainly storage and memory rather than the battery. This phone came with very little of either, and once nearly full it will crawl no matter how good the cell is. Move photographs off, delete what you can, restart properly, and see whether it improves before spending anything. Galaxy A02s Screen Replacement (£55)

An LCD panel bonded beneath toughened glass, replaced as a complete assembly.

• Cracks radiating from a corner or edge impact
• Dead zones where touch no longer registers
• White or bright blotches rather than black bleeding
• Backlight failure, leaving a faint image visible under a torch
• Ghost touches occurring with nobody holding the phone

Try the torch test before making any decision. If the phone looks completely dead but you can just make out the home screen under a bright light, the handset works and only the backlight has failed. Galaxy A02s Charging Repair (£45)

Check this first, because it very often costs nothing. Compacted lint in the charging socket stops the cable seating and accounts for most of the A02s handsets we see as charging faults. Clearing it is not a chargeable repair.

Then change the cable and mains plug before anything else. Worn cheap cables cause more of these problems than failed ports do, and at this price people regularly pay for repairs they never needed. Galaxy A02s Rear Panel Replacement (£45)

A textured composite rear panel rather than glass, which cracks or scuffs rather than shattering. Plenty of A02s handsets are still on their original panels despite years of rough treatment.

• Cracks and deep scuffs rather than spidering across the whole back
• Debris able to reach the camera lenses from behind
• Sharp edges where a panel has split
• Panels lifting at a corner after a hard drop

Galaxy A02s Camera Repair (£45)

A simple rear camera arrangement, which keeps repairs cheap and diagnosis quick.

• Cracked lens cover with the module beneath undamaged
• Blurry images, which is very often just a dirty lens
• Camera app opening black or crashing on launch
• Focus hunting continuously without settling
• The camera app extremely slow to open, which here is almost always memory

Water Damage and Getting Your Photos Back

The A02s has no water resistance whatever. Liquid damage on one is not economic to repair, and you will hear that from us straight away rather than after a diagnostic fee.

What is worth doing is phone data recovery. Phones at this price are the ones most likely to be carrying photographs that exist nowhere else, because their owners are least likely to be paying for cloud backup. Turnaround, Warranty and Booking

In-store repairs are usually completed within one to three hours on the same day and you are welcome to wait. Mail-in repairs are typically finished within eight to twelve hours of arriving and returned tracked, most customers seeing their phone in two to three working days. Send-back postage is free.

Every eligible repair includes a 12 month warranty on parts and labour. A phone worth fifty pounds gets exactly the same twelve months as a folding flagship. New accidental damage, liquid damage and unrelated faults are excluded.

Is the Galaxy A02s the same phone as the A02?

No. The A02s has a larger display, a different rear panel and a fingerprint-free design that differs from the plain A02 in ways that matter once you are ordering parts. The prices differ too, so a quote for one tells you nothing reliable about the other. Settings, then About phone, confirms which you are holding in a few seconds. This is worth doing before ringing anywhere, because budget Galaxy names run so close together that mismatched parts are one of the most common reasons a repair gets delayed. Knowing the exact model up front means we can confirm the price and the part on the first call rather than the second.
