The A13 was a huge seller and it is one of the most common phones through our door. Screen £65, and rear panel, camera, battery and charging all £49, with diagnostics at £15.

It is a phone bought for practicality rather than pleasure, and that is how we treat it. Most A13s that reach us need one thing fixing, not four, and the sensible approach is to sort that one thing and get the handset back to work.

Galaxy A13 Battery Replacement (£49)

This is the repair the A13 needs more than any other, and by some distance the best value thing you can do to one.

• Capacity noticeably below where it started, under Settings then Battery and device care
• Not lasting the day where it once managed comfortably
• Sudden shutdowns with charge still displayed, particularly in cold weather
• Charge dropping in large steps rather than smoothly
• The phone feeling slow as well as short on charge

Before spending anything, check how full the phone is. Budget handsets slow dramatically when storage runs low, and a great many A13s brought to us as tired are simply crammed with photographs and app data. Galaxy A13 Screen Replacement (£65)

Replaced as a complete assembly. The A13 was sold in more than one configuration, so we confirm which panel yours takes before ordering anything, and it is worth checking Settings, then About phone, before getting quotes elsewhere.

• Cracks radiating from a corner or edge impact
• Dead zones where touch no longer registers
• White blotches or backlight failure on LCD versions
• Coloured lines or black bleeding on AMOLED versions
• Ghost touches occurring with nobody holding the phone

The backlight failure is the one worth knowing. If your A13 looks completely dead but you can just make out the home screen when you shine a torch at it, the phone is working perfectly and only the backlight has gone. Everything on it is safe. The Fingerprint Reader Is in the Power Button

The A13 puts its fingerprint sensor in the side-mounted power button rather than under the display, which is genuinely better news at repair time.

• A screen replacement has no effect on it at all
• No screen protector can ever interfere with it
• It reads wet or cold fingers better than an in-display sensor
• If it fails it is a separate, cheaper job than anything involving the panel

Re-register the fingerprint and check that a thick case is not stopping your thumb reaching the button squarely before booking anything. Those two things account for most of the complaints we get on this model.

Galaxy A13 Charging Repair (£49)

Most charging problems on budget phones are compacted lint in the USB-C socket rather than a failed port, and clearing it is not a chargeable repair here.

Genuine failure means charging that works only at one angle, cuts out when the phone is moved, or a connector that feels loose. Change the cable and mains plug first. A composite rear panel rather than glass, which cracks or scuffs rather than shattering and survives falls that would destroy a glass-backed handset.

• Cracks and deep scuffs rather than spidering across the whole back
• Debris able to reach the camera lenses from behind
• Sharp edges where a panel has split
• Panels lifting at a corner after a hard drop

Galaxy A13 Camera Repair (£49)

The A13 carries several rear lenses in separate rings set into the panel, which sounds impressive on a spec sheet and matters less in practice. What it does mean for repair is useful though: damage stays confined to one ring rather than affecting the whole array.

• Cracked lens cover on one lens with the others undamaged
• Blurry images across every shooting mode after a drop
• Camera app opening black or crashing on launch
• Focus hunting continuously without settling
• The camera app slow to open, which here is usually memory rather than hardware

Water Damage and Whether to Repair

The A13 has no water resistance rating, so treat it as completely unsealed. Liquid damage is assessed rather than quoted, and at this price the honest answer is often that repair does not add up.

In-store repairs are usually completed within one to three hours on the same day and you are welcome to wait. Mail-in repairs are typically finished within eight to twelve hours of arriving and returned tracked, most customers seeing their phone in two to three working days. Is the Galaxy A13 the same as the A13 5G?

No, and this catches people out constantly. The A13 and the A13 5G are separate phones with different displays, different rear panels and different internal layouts, despite names that differ by two characters. A quote given for one is simply wrong for the other, and a part ordered on the strength of the wrong name will not fit. Settings, then About phone, gives you the exact model number and takes seconds. It is worth checking before you ring anywhere, ours included, because it is the difference between a repair that goes ahead on the day and one that stalls waiting on the right display assembly.
